      I don't think we have many non-LAX options.
      The only direct flight I'm aware of is QF73 SYD-SFO.

        Oh wait, there's also UA870 SYD-SFO. But seeing as that's United Airlines it doesn't count.

        Just an FYI, BestJet is managed by the wife of the owner of Strategic Air/Air Australia. An airline that went in to administration WHILE PEOPLE WERE IN THE AIR. They got abandoned overseas.

        They have since lost their AFTA licence, which is the biggest alliance of Travel Agents in Australia. They are currently in the courts seeking an injunction against AFTA to get it renewed but I wouldn't go near them. The wife claims that her husband has no say in the running of the business but we all know that's bullshit.

          AFTA is an association, not a licensing body. There is no such thing as an AFTA license. Membership of the association is voluntary.

          The thing about Strategic Air is correct, but despite knowing this I've booked over 30 flights with Bestjet over the last couple of years as their prices are always the lowest for my particular flights. I get my airline ticket within 24 hours and can login directly to the airline's website for confirmation. I pay by credit card so I'm not risking losing my money. Even if Bestjet folds my ticket is with the Airline, not with Bestjet, so I don't see the problem.

          Bestjet make their money with high volume sales and obscene charges for flight changes. I'd never use them if my flight dates are subject to change, but otherwise I've found them excellent.

          Perhaps I used the wrong wording, but the fact that Bestjet is no longer AFTA accredited (Rather, ATAS) is a tad worrying. Of course what repercussions this may have might very well be zilch now given that the huge benefit AFTA accreditation had was that you were protected with the Travel Agency Compensation Fund which no longer exists.

          To each of their own, however. I have used Bestjet in the past to pricematch with Jetstar, or have identical flights pricematched by STA Travel and Flight Center, so they are useful in that regard!

        IWTF isn't a travel agent that actually sells tickets - it's a search engine along the lines of Momondo etc etc that links you to travel agents to actually purchase the ticket.

    Very sad when Virgin ditched their MEL-LAX flights. Two stops to get to SFO/NYC etc is a pain.

        Makes perfect sense to me, he's just saying the conversion rate is bad so you get killed when you get there. At worst he left out a 'to' and is using taxed loosely.
