It really seems like the Qantas, AA, United, Air Canada are all playing a game of limbo at the moment, saying "how low can you go".
Sub $700 flights to LAX from Sydney, can't go wrong.

A great time to visit before President Trump gets elected.

  • @Mods: Not sure why I am tagged as a referrer. IWTF doesn't have a referral system?

    • Fixed now. It was automatically flagged because of "?afid=70" at the end of the link.

crazy that.. dec - jan lowest price is like $1,700…

    • +5

Like its crazy how? Thats school holiday season, and all the moms and dads want to take the rug rats to Disneyland, so they can post on facebook hiow good they are. Would you sell something cheaper if its in high demand?

A friend was telling me that the other day an A380 flew to LAX with only 10% of seats occupied.

      • +1

Something to do with the flight getting cancelled and reinstated after most of the passengers had been moved to other flights? Not reflective of the yields they normally get on SYD-LAX, it's usually one of their busiest routes.

What chu talking bout man ?, trumps gonna make America great again. It'll be fenced off and run by Martial law but great none the less.

Not so great for travellers with the lines at immigration!

        • Lol not kids - to see the parents for Xmas

  • +2

Someone spit out a Melb - LA $695 Deal :(:(

  • What would cancellation/date change fees be? I assume that they would basically just be the price of the full ticket with prices like these, right?

  • Anyone care to share their experience with AA? Trying to decide between AA and United.

Flip a coin. They're all the same, to me. No guarantees.

      Safe,cheap…?
      I'm in.

      • Flip a coin.

Not sure if that an A.A. joke regarding a sobriety coin.

    • AA

My recent AA experience almost got me stranded at the LAX lobby for 20 hours (overnight, I'm a small asian girl btw) and cost $300 to rebook.

Long story short, I arrive at LAX AA check-in 2 hours before the flight, their check-in counter failed to read my passport (valid until 2020+, has chip, ESTA and everything), ping-ponged me around a few different desks and sent me to wait in customer service line that will take an hour, even told me I would miss the flight by waiting there. After reaching out to a few staff that completely ignored me, the check-in closed and AA wants to charge me $300 for rebooking. In their defence "You would have made it on the flight if you arrive 3 hours before the flight". Luckily it was a Qantas ticket operated by AA, so Qantas got me on a plane safely, without me to pay for AA's incompetence or having to be shit scared through the night.

Moral of the story, if you want to fly AA, allow 4 hours to travel via LAX. It took us more than 30 mins just to get to the departure drop-off, and if you don't have any proof that you've been trying to check in 3 hours before the flight they'll pin everything that goes wrong on you.

      • -or- If you want to fly AA, fly via Qantas =)

Also an experience with AA here: transfer from LAX to Vegas was too short a time for transit through LAX. AA booked us (free) on the next flight no issues. I doubt they may have done this if we booked directly and not via Qantas.

    • Stock up on the alcohol, you'll need it.

I thought this was an AA flight :-P

        • Fell off the wagon..

      • That bad is it?

I just flew with the family to LA on AA (codeshare with Qantas). On this route AA is flying brand new 777s which were absolutely great. Flew Qantas on the way back on a 747. AA was far better than Qantas, better seats, better entertainment and screens, and way better service and food.

    • Both are fine. I fly twice a year to the US to see family.
I prefer United because their economy is better with the newer plane (dreamliner). Usb/laptop chargers in seats and plane is beautiful.
But I think that dreamliner flight is only out of melbourne.
I'm flying to the US with Virgin for the first time in 2 weeks which is supposed to be okay too.

  • Wotif u wanted to change return date?

  • Hey Guys,

Probably a silly question but here goes

I have never used iwantthatflight.com.au to purchase a flight but when i go to select a particular flight you then get the option of choosing where you want to purchase your ticket from

some of the options are cheapoair, zuji, tripsta etc - has anyone booked through these guys ? I have quickly read over some of the reviews and they are terrible ! I wouldnt feel comfortable booking through them

Never understood how they can be cheaper then booking directly with the airline ?

    • I think most people here price match through Flight center, I did. Don't get suckered on their insurance if you go with them though.

      • Ahh ok thanks

I did try this once with flight centre and they said they would price match, only to knock me back later on as they said they cant price match when the difference is over $1,000….

        • Woah thats quite a hefty difference, mine was like $200 difference. Bad luck though! I was disapointed I had to pay to choose a seat through them though >.<

    • I've booked through Zuji plenty of times. They're fine… Others I can't vouch for.

Sometimes you can get a cheaper flight if you book though Zuji directly as opposed to iWTF

    • +1

Also booking directly with the airline is akin to buying an iPad from Apple.

  • What do ya reckon? Will this and other recent deals be the standard discount price for years to come or are these deals actually worth grabbing?

    • I would like to know this as well!

    • While the oil prices stay low you will see very good discounted fares. It will be a while before there are any significant rises in the price of oil.

  • +2

I'm thinking soon we'll have sub 600 aud flights! Its getting crazy good. Its almost cheaper than going Alice springs which is 250 one way - and 1/5 of the distance.

  • good deal, but cautious the food in American Airlines is terrible. Virgin and Qantas have better food.

    • Virgin serves a pretty mean lemon grass curry I hear!

  • Haven't done AA internationally (unless you consider Toronto to lax international) however on this rote I rate them
    1) qantas
    2) virgin (close second)
    3) delta
    4) United (prior to the 747-400 retirement, I assume staff are about the same)

They're priced accordingly though sometimes you can get a better deal if you pick the code share flights of the American carriers

  • So nice when these comes. But so sad when I am phobia with long flights, longer than 10 hours. So japan is my only destination i can go furthest..

    • Have you considered flying via Hawaii? Hawaiian Airlines often have pretty decent prices.

      • +1

Don't you just travel by helicopter Bronwyn? Melbourne to Geelong?

    • Any reason that 10 hours is the longest?

  • Great prices, just wish the dates were earlier being 1/2/3/4 or 7/10 & return 20/21 oct.
