    Better yet save your money and the pain of sitting through this garbage.

    • It's one thing to say this is not your cup of tea, it's another thing to admit to being uncultured (bogan)

      • +1

        I'm uncultured because I thoroughly disliked an extremely overrated mess with zero story line?

        I've thoroughly enjoyed Les Mis, Matilda, Wicked, Lion King, MJs Thriller and Phantom of the Opera in the last year or so and I'd highly recommend each of them (watched some multiple times). Also got My Fair Lady later this year. All great musicals with fantastic performances.

        I hated Cats. The only good moment was Delta and she blew me away. But just because some people actually enjoy it, and because so many others are susceptible to marketing and convince themselves that something they've watched is good because they've been told their whole lives it's good, does not impact the fact that I found it GARBAGE.

        • Delia Hannah will be the voice of Grizabella for this show. I've bought tickets at this discounted price — for the costumes and the classic "Memories" =) .. I've heard it's just a bunch of cats running around =)

          We in Perth don't have any other big musical theatre productions this year until Matilda at the beginning of next year and hopefully Aladdin.

          @eve:

          Well i hope you enjoy it! Memories is definitely going to be a special moment!

          "a bunch of cats running around" is pretty accurate.. at least you're going in knowing what to expect!

    • What are you comparing it to?

      edit: nvm will read your above reply =)

      • how did you find Cats?!

        • I was hoping you wouldn't ask…

          I really enjoyed it =P The storyline was very thin and so thin that I couldn't connect with Memories, which I was very disappointed about… otherwise… I found the entire thing really fun - fantastic costumes, non-sensical songs and funny choreography. Since I saw it, every few days I break out into one of their songs and dance around like a silly cat.. lol!! We were lucky that our half price seats were right up the front on the sides.. The Cats came right up to us to play!!! =)

          breaks into song and dance ………"JELLICLES WOULD AND JELLICLES DO JELLICLE SONGS FOR JELLICLE CATS JELLICLE JELLICLE CATS"

          hahaha

        • +1

          @eve:

          Lol i still get jellicles song stuck in my head o_O

          The audience interaction with the cats is pretty cool.

          And i totally understand your disconnect with Memories. It's such an emotional, dramatic song. Add to that decades of knowing the song, it's placement in the ""story"" was a let down.

          Still, glad you came out better than i did! Haha

  • Must admit that Cats is not in my top 10 musicals list as well. I enjoyed seeing it in Melbourne with Delta but I like a musical with a story and Cats is more a series of short stories with a faint theme running over the top to link it together.

    They also jazzed (and rap musiced) up a few of the songs from the original (can't remember the names from the top of my head) which I guess was more for the younger or newer audience to theatrical performances like Cats. I personally liked the newer versions but my wife (who is a traditionalist) did not.

    I'd recommend seeing it anyway just to support the production and get a little bit of 'kulture' into your blood. 😄

    FYI. To put my musical tastes in context. My top 3 favorite musicals are:
    1. Les Miserables
    2. Love Never Dies
    3. Phantom of the Opera

  • I would not call something that gives enjoyment and pleasure to many people as "uncultured, marketing hype, GARBAGE". Webber composed it for the music, not the storyline. This Cats-bashing sounds more like musical elitism.

    I'm a massive Cats-aholic, I have a number of DVDs/signed audio tapes from '90s/etc. I have seen Cats in two countries (UK and Hungary), both places were full and people had thoroughly enjoyed them - singing, laughing, crying etc. I will go and see it in AU as well, because I love it, along with my many uncultured peers.

    • Just to be clear, i said I found it garbage.. and i do. but i did not call anyone uncultured. it was, in fact, me, that was called uncultured, because I don't like it.

      like what you like, i certainly do.
