It's a really good phone. I ordered it last Saturday from this site and received it yesterday.

  • How this rate against an xperia m5, other than the fact it works.

    Why don't they stock 32GB and >

      • +7

        Needs to be H791

        • It doesn't need to be, the H798 model will still work in Australia, it just doesn't have band 28 which I believe is used by Telstra's 4G network.

        • +4

          @tranqme:
I think Optus might use B28 too.

I know right, I was just trying to provide insight!

        • +9

          @tranqme:

H798 is missing band 28 (Telstra - in 27% of towers/Optus - in 55% of towers) and band 5 (Vodafone - in 65% of towers*).

These bands are pretty important for 4G coverage in suburban or rural areas.

Arguably more important for Vodafone because that's half of its LTE gone.

*Towers can have multiple frequencies, YMMV.

          @tranqme:
On speedtest my moto x play gets better ping and download/upload than my friend on Telstra with his iphone s6. Dont feel too sorry. Telstra being better is just a lie that fools older people that don't actually understand technology.

        • @RI4V4N:

Sounds like that was just a fluke, I've personally been on amaysim and my partner is currently on amaysim and the service is deplorable, but I guess you can't expect much from a budget service provider, with that being said I'm currently paying the same per month for Telstra then what I was paying with them.

        • @tranqme: my friend, being upset that he pays more for Telstra. Tried it like five times in different locations with me. No fluke. You can't really believe there is going to be that much of a difference right? Telstra just has a wider rural area but that isn't really related to 4g speeds unless you live in a remote hole.

        • @RI4V4N:

Sure I do, a big plus for me is the customer service also, it's beyond fantastic.

        • @tranqme:
Yeah I'm pretty young so I don't ever have problems with my mobile phone that I can't fix by googling it.

        • @StrayfireX:

Not everyone only considers 4G band support when buying a new phone. Some bargainers prefer to pay cheaper but bigger storage for same phone Nexus 5x and willing to sacrifice to use 3g only.
Some prefer bigger storage depending on usage patterns. 16 GB fills up pretty quickly if you take videos often especially when traveling and when 4g is not that really important.

        • @RI4V4N: And Vaya.

        • @RI4V4N:

I'm pretty young so I don't ever have problems with my mobile phone that I can't fix by googling it

I didn't know there was an age detector on Google. Then again, I'm old.

        • @tranqme:

Optus' mobile subscriber base has fallen by 54,000 to 9.38 million amid rising competition from Telstra and Vodafone Hutchison Australia, its parent company's first-quarter financial year 2016 results showed. By comparison, Telstra reported its subscriber base had grown to 16.7 million at June 30, 2015.

          Read more: http://www.smh.com.au/business/optus-mobile-subscriber-base-…

Apparently 9.38 million people. There appears to be a lot more mobile subscribers than people in Oztralia.

It's amazing the quality of phone you can get nowadays for around $300. Most phones at this price will be lucky to get android n let alone the following version android m. If you looking at a phone to give excellent software support at a budget price then this is it.

  • +2

"Yes it's 16GB but that's just sufficient for some people." There, I fixed it.

    • -1

I've got the 32GB 5X and I'm using 4.87GB/24.89GB. What exactly are you storing on your phone that requires more than 16GB?

      • +12

apps, photos and videos of your kids?

        • +66

Why do you have videos of his kids? :/

        • +14

Ah I see, I don't have the kid problem.

at any given time 2 to 5GB of podcasts

      • Porn may be :p

Spotify takes up a fair chunk of that.

      • Some games are pretty big. Eg Hearthstone uses 3.5gb on my phone.

        • hearthstone and ff9 take up quite a bit of space on my 16gig phone

      • I've got OnePlus One 64GB and I have 2GB free. Most of the space is taken by Photos & Videos I've taken.

        http://i.imgur.com/oVvLc9Y.png

For some reason my videos come up as "Other" in the Storage app. A 1 min video on my phone is roughly 600MB so when you record videos that are around 5min in length it adds up quickly.

  • +1

Really good phone if you don't need more than 16gb. Had it for 4 months and changed to 6P 32gb.

Only downside was that it started to become laggy after opening a few apps, 3gb ram would have made it perfect.

I also find the camera on 5X to be better than 6P.

    • +4

I also find the camera on 5X to be better than 6P.

That's really weird - the camera is literally identical in the 5X and the 6P!

      • some people just take bad pictures and blame it on the camera lol

      • +1

Aside from the technical specs, position of the lens and different shapes in two devices seem to affect the quality somehow.

6P also take 240FPS video, and burst mode, 5X only has 120FPS and no burst mode.

So just because they use the same lens it doesn't mean their performance is identical.

        • The only thing I could find was:

The Nexus 5x has an odd advantage in that since it doesn’t have burst mode you can prime the shutter, keeping that picture-taking time to a minimum when waiting for the ideal shot.

But, in the same article, it mentioned that 5X was more likely to be affected by lens flare than the 6P.

I imagine that with the 6Ps beefier chip, processing HDR+ shots would be faster (although I haven't bothered finding out if that's what affects HDR+ processing speed…)

          Articles and comparison shots:
          http://www.androidheadlines.com/2015/10/camera-shootout-nexu…
          http://www.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p-vs-nexus-5x-camera/

I didn't realise that the 6P brought 240 FPS video and burst mode to the table, but once again I think that's a processor (and maybe RAM?) thing.

Anyway, they both seem pretty damn good to me.

        • @Droz: Did you take both pics on both phone at the same time same location? Even with a slight different in light condition is enough to effect pic quality

  • is this dual sim ?

  • Can't decide between this 16gb with b28 model or the 32Gb with no b28 eBay deal!! What's more important!?

    • +2

It depends on your personal circumstances. I valued the 16GB b28 model over the 32GB non-b28 model because I realised I don't use that much space on my current phone (Samsung S4, giving it to my parents after I receive the 5X) and it seems a better bet for the global version as I'll use the 5X in Australia and the EU. I generally get in the habit of downloading photos to my PC for processing and clearing out phone RAM, plus run a minimum no. apps. If I need to change up, I can re-sell on the global 5X probably a bit more easily than the HK version also.

    • Yeah true I think I'm in he same boat as you. Got one! 😁

    • +1

may as well just get a redmi note 3 pro if you don't care about b28

  • +3

$311 is you use the coupon "WELCOME"

    • Thanks mate, updated.

      • +1

use coupon code CLIXEXCLUS to get $8 discount brings down to $308

  • Brought it for 314 last week :'(

    • +6

Unlucky, that $3 could have bought you a better comment!

      • Each $1 counts….wait until someone posts a deal with a $1 less than the current.

  • I am asking on behalf of a "friend" so please excuse his ignorance. I looked at the specs and it appears this will work under optus 4G. Is this correct? Also, I'm assuming it's a grey market phone. Does this mean any warranty concerns means it needs to be sent back over seas?

  • Unfortunately site charges a $33.90 surcharge if you don't live in a metro city. See: http://puu.sh/orbAE/c0bd1cd9f7.png

Great price, but this shipping charge hurts. Hoping this is the start of a trend of cheap 5X Globals

    • When you add it to the cart you can choose a cheaper shipping option. I live 5 hours from a metro city and this is the price I get http://i.imgur.com/DMU8m0V.png

      • +1

Sadly when I went through the checkout they add the surcharge back on
        http://puu.sh/orei4/739e001185.png

They have a spreadsheet of 'remote' postcodes here which sadly I fall under.

Still a great deal, but I hate postage surcharges!

        • Same here. The irony of it is that there is a Toll depot about 300m walk from my delivery address and I have a family friend that does the DHL deliveries for the area and they don't know anything about DHL surcharge for remote areas…

That model doesn't have all Australian bands.

  • Sad to see they got rid of the WELCOME10 code which used to give you 10% off.

Paying $29 more you get 32GB version after 15% discount and free shipping:

    • +2

Doesn't support LTE Band 28 (700Hhz) used by Telstra & Optus does it?

      • +1

        Nope.

  • +4

All the comments about photos and videos sticking down all your storage, do you realise that the Google photos app automatically manages your storage? You get unlimited storage in Google photos cloud if you choose "high quality", which surely is fine for 99% of phone photos and videos…
I haven't run out of storage since I turned this on and I'm managing to get by with 8gb (I don't need much, but I take lots of photo and video - which is syncd each night to Google photos on wifi at home)
I realise this doesn't help everyone, just for those who don't realise this exists.

    • What if when you're on holiday overseas. Rely on free WiFi to upload your holiday photos so you can delete some to make more space?

      • +3

As I said, this doesn't help everyone, but it has made it possible to cope with lower storage in a fairly pain free way.

  • +4

I was looking at this deal also but I wondered why the price difference is so large between eglobal and Google store itself all the retailers in Australia appear to be over charging with no rhyme or reason if 291 is a retail price.

    • Look up eglobal company reviews. I have toyed with the idea of buying from them before but they have a bad track record of issues (sending out returned items w/ issues) + grey import stock. Your mileage may vary, but I would prefer paying a bit extra for a better company.

  • +1

Still waiting on an email back from them after last weekend as to why they will not honour their free shipping as a result of company policy. In short they want me to pay more to sort out their problem.

"After checking on your order, Unfortunately it has failed our security check due to a high risk score. This maybe due to a high level firewall that was detected from our system. Please place a brand new order using a different ip address (i.e. your home computer).

After checking with the management, as we are unable to offer free shipping, we can offer $15 discount. Please advise the new order number and we can arrange to make the arrangement.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

    Best Regards,

Hey guys can get the 32gb from kogan ebay for $380 plus postage if you're keen just use the current eBay code cooling15 http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/351571447151?_mwBanner=1

    • +1

This has already been posted several times here. It's the international model with missing Australian bands.

      • +1

ah thought Kogan would have an au band model that's shocking by them.

  • +2

Ordered 22/4, received today (26/4), already moved all my stuff over from my S4 - all good so far!

    • Did you receive a AU wall plug? Mine didn't come with a one which is quite frustrating

      • Mine came with EU plug charger and a very big (size) EU-AU adapter.

        • Yep, same here. Fine with me as I'll be using it in the EU more often than not.

  • +1

Anybody else having issues with the plug, I recommended this to my mum but she cant get the plug into the adapter (says the pins are two big), also took it to a few shops to buy a different adapter but they had the issue with the pins being too big to fit in the holes.

    • Same issue here.
Looks like they sent power adapter for the travel adapter in the pack.
Ordered a charger off ebay. Shame to wait a week to use the phone.

      • What one did you order?

        • The black 16Gb model.
I ordered a charger from hong kong from ebay.
Im using a USBC to USB2 cable at the moment to charge.

    • Same issue here. Pretty frustrating
