Trying it out now.
Needs Java to run.
Getting an upload speed of about 1.5 to 10kb/s with a cable connection. It looks like the limiting factor is probably their connection, their hardware and/or related to them making this offer right now (so there are probably a few people uploading at the same time).
If you use Firefox with multiple tabs, open a new Firefox browser for the upload. Adrive will hog the browser that you use to try uploadng with. You won't be able to use the other tabs until you finish or cancel the upload.
That's about all so far. I may post more results later.
(Later … tending towards 1 kb/s … 60MB file, 58% transferred so far, 36 minutes since I commented so about 40 minutes since I started the transfer)
I left the file to upload and came back an hour later.
Upload window was gone. I was back to the log in screen.
Logged in, and it says there is no file uploaded.
Looking into what went wrong …
There are lots of online hard drives and file sharing websites. Most have a smaller filesize limits but that's not that important, you can split up the large files (plus it's easier/safer to upload). I don't get what's so good about this one.
It does say it's in Beta, so hopefully upload speed will be improved… Biggest downfall is the web only based upload interface, hopefully they have a standalone program coming soon…
Worth registering for anyway, as other similar services are all fee charging…Giving up for now.
Getting about 1 megabyte a minute. I thought it'd be good to upload uncompressed videos from my camera (20-80 Mb), but this is too slow for me.
From what scubacoles says: -> If you register now, and speed improves, you still have your free account, probably even after they start charging other people to maintain a fast service. I'll give it a thumbs up, but as a preparation for future improvements in their service, and not for the way they are now :)
Tried uploading some text files. 1 character, 10 character, ~100 characters, ~1000, ~10000 …
Up to about 0.01 MB, transfer was negligible.
0.1 MB was about 10 seconds.
1.2 MB was about 50 seconds.
3 MB just over 3 mins. This is a fantastic service. Thanks for posting it!
I agree on the great service. I haven't experienced any problems with ADrive.
They've changed the interface. Looks a lot nicer. I haven't done much but it looks and feels good :)
Interesting idea. Kinda clunky to use though.
