    Yep you'll get lifetime SPAM

    • I've never had any issue with spam from them.

      • neither have I

  • So is it free or do you need to make a purchase?

    • +1

      Yeah, deceptive title.

  • Actually tried the free version a couple days ago after finding out SlySoft has bit the dust. Works great as a replacement for AnyDVD

    • Didn't even know what happened to slysoft. Thanks for letting me know.

      • +1

        Slysofts now Redfox…they're still about

    • So may be like Slysoft, after your bought a lifetime passkey for DVDFab, the company get change in ownership in 6 months time, your lifetime passkey becomes invalid, the new company that takes over demands you to purchase another lifetime passkey again. No freaking way I am paying for another one of this so-called "lifetime" passkey again. Seems like the lifetime means the lifetime of the company, not your lifetime. Dodgy as.

      • No, DVDFab moved to China after it was forced to shut down.

Slysoft was the same. The owner of the company behind a suite of popular DVD ripping tools has lost his case against several large Hollywood studios and their technology partners. They moved to China and rebranded to Redfox those with legitimate keys can still use them.

        • But Redfox is planning to make existing lifetime customers to pay again to continue to use AnyDVD and its updates :(

        • @edfoo:

They moved to China and rebranded to Redfox those with legitimate keys can still use them.

Redfox.bz is registered in Belize (not China).

The people owning and maintaining the updates are not Slysoft, from whom you previously bought your license hence, are justified to request a new contract.

        • @edfoo: where have they said that?

        • @AlexF:

Ah my bad, yes Belize. Their Anydvd license will continue and they'll access to Redfox database.

“This is an intermediate release, so old customers can continue to use their existing AnyDVD license to watch their discs. This version can access the new RedFox Online Protection Database,” the group added.

That was on the 2nd March '16.

        • @AlexF: So what's stopping them to ask us paying new fee again if there is another change of ownership in the future? That's why there's no freaking way I am paying for it again.

        • @edfoo: it's basically an issue with any purchase with any DRM or reliant on online services. It applies to digital games, movies and a lot of software.

There is no guarantee and they likely will go out of business or close shop one day. You'd buy the software now if you plan to use it for the time being and hopefully get a decent amount of time out of it. If you purchased DVD Fab or AnyDVD at least you have the tools to remove copy protection today before the software does cease to function.

I believe both products have non lifetime subscription based licenses if you'd rather pay year for year. As it is, in a number of years it'll likely be harder and harder to get DVDs or BluRays anyway as the industry moves on and titles are predominately made available through digital services. I doubt you'd need this software for your lifetime anyway.

For now both have been resilient to shut down attempts and both haven't screwed over their customers in the process.

        • @Smigit: Say for example you paid $300 for this DVDFab passkey today then on Monday they announce the company is folding and will be taken over by another new company, the new company announces a new $100 yearly subscription to continue using the software and receiving update, how would you feel?

        • @edfoo: Annoyed, but you'd have to think the odds of that happening in that timeframe are very very slim. This is a company that's been selling software for quite some time, and while they aren't immune to market pressure, history is on their side so far as their product is concerned.

If there is any evidence this is about to happen then sure, be presimistic (and share it with us), but I think the concerns are a bit over the top to be honest without any backing up of them.

You've already brought Slysoft up as another example except they haven't stopped supporting their product or plan to and from what I've seen there's no indication that existing customers are being impacted what so ever thus far.

@Smigit: Annoyed that is. I paid for the lifetime license of AnyDVD a couple of years ago, now I have to start paying a subscription fee again to Redfox to receive its updates. Yes, I am annoyed. You can call it once bitten, twice shy. That's why I will never buy these so-called "lifetime" license for software ever again.

        • +1

@edfoo: appologies, just searched their forums and there's mention of the license swap there. Last time I was there I saw no mention of it. https://forum.redfox.bz/threads/redfox-addresses-slysoft-lic…

That is a bit annoying (as another lifetime owner).

        • @edfoo: You can't find another merchant as conceit as redfox, changing the site, to recharge for the old users. DVDFab also suffered the similar shut down (I say it is similar, caz dvdfab without any forum left open to talk), and they move to China to continue the service for the users including the old users. it is understandable you will never buy "lifetime" license after Redfox trick, but please don't take dvdfab as dishonest as other seller, dvdfab always honors their old users.

        • @stepler: Thanks for your reassurance, but because I am not involved in the management team of DVDFab so I cannot totally trust what DVDFab management is planning in the future, I can only take your word for it. Like I have said "once bitten, twice shy", I won't pay for these so-called "lifetime license fee" for any software again, unless I have insider intel on what is going on with the software company.

    • Yes it has been chaged click on the revisions tab to see original title.

      • Oh a revisions tab, my bad…cheers

  • I tried the trial to see if it suits my needs. I want to put my TV show DVDs into some high compression/quality h265 rips.

The CRF option doesn't work. No matter what I set the CRF to it produced a ~500MB file that had loads of artifacts. If I rip using DVD Decrypter and use ffmpeg to create the same CRF h265 file with the same audio settings it's <250MB and looks much better.

If I use the 2-pass option in DVDFab I get good quality but it's still 300MB+. The important bit is the options I want don't work.

It means I have to put slightly more work into ripping the DVDs but the extra work is worth getting the final product I'm after. And this product is priced ludicrously.

  • Seriously #OZSPAM No bargain out of this as pretty much always available if you buy the bigger all inclusive pack.
