Hey there guys, I found this deal in store and so I thought I would post it up if anyone is looking to purchase. I think the original price was nearing the $1500.
If anyone was looking for a cheaper ultrawide there is also the AOC version which is just below 1k but is missing the curve.

MSY have atleast a similar one for $1169…. http://www.msy.com.au/saonline/monitors/16045-lg-ips-34-34uc…
Model number is slightly different, someone may be able to elaborate on the difference, bit hard to compare at work. Apart from the stand…
From a quick look, the MSY one is an older model (just guessing from the model numbers) and is missing a Thunderbolt Display, but besides that I can't see anything else that's different.
I believe the differences are (happy to be corrected if I am wrong)…
UC97 is newer, and have thunderbolt, but not height adjust.
UC87 doesn't have thunderbolt, but the stand is height-adjustable and I believe it is professionally callibrated (SRGB OVER 99% / 10-BIT-COLOR VIA DISPLAY PORT)I have been using the UC87 personally for just over a year, absolutely brilliant, especially for photoshop work, gaming wise, not too many out there that support 3440x1440 natively (yet)
I believe it is professionally callibrated (SRGB OVER 99% / 10-BIT-COLOR VIA DISPLAY PORT)
Doesn't calibration depend on light levels where the monitor is used and therefore it cannot be "professionally" calibrated?
Actually, I think the UC87 is newer. As you said, one of the main features reviewers have said is an improvement is the different stand that is adjustable.
Any chance of buying a similar monitor below $1k ?
This is the AOC Monitor I was talking about thats below 1K.
Umart also has the LG 34UM95C-P for $985. Currently got one on my desk at work and it's very nice.
Not bad. I got that from HM on Boxing day 2014 for $1,299 according to my records. I assume that there has been an update to this monitor since but I haven't really kept track.
I got my acer xr341ck $1214.10 when they had the 10% sale. Pretty happy with it, vsync, ultra wide
Still got my heart set on the Samsung 34", hopefully within the new few months too.
u mean the OLED? I found it last time for $950 from Futu online after discount 20% code on ebay. but they took it out before I place the order :(
Damn, that seems like an amazing price….
but i prefer IPS more than OLED due to "real colour"
Mass drop has this for around $770 ish atm plus $125 shipping. not sure if thats AUD
$895 USD
This model has had its share of complaints about backlight bleed. I have had my eyes on curved freesync ultrawide 1440p monitors for a while now, and have held off this model because of these reports.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1516389/tpu-lg-34uc97-21-9-curved…Admittedly these reports are a bit old now, so hopefully LG has improved their QA in their later revisions. Anyway, expect price drops on these models (34UC87, 34UC97) as they have now been superceded by ones shown off at CES 2016 (34UC88, 34UC98). The new ones are now available in the States so should be here in Aus shortly.
very much appreciated
I'm not sure I like the Ultra wide aspect ratio - I don't game much so mostly videos and work. Any thoughts on using ultra wide for non-gaming activities?
I used one for a week both gaming and work-related tasks. Loved it. If you do photoshop work or video work it's perfect. The extra screen real estate is great for that kind of work.
I too used a 34" 21:9 for work and was sold. I haven't tried gaming but always have a standard 16:9 to fall back to. You noted that it's good for content production - there have been a few HardwareCanucks reviews on curved 34" monitors where they say that curved versions aren't necessarily the best when it comes to content creation, so while ultrawide in general is awesome, I think it's probably best you actually try editing video or doing photoshop work on a curved ultrawide before committing to one. Or stick to a flat ultrawide and you should be good. :)
I probably should have said "mostly watching videos" - not talented enough to do much editing. I also mostly surf the web and do a bit of design work in inDesign (this would be where it is most useful I would think).
Having said that not sure the premium is worth it over a 32" 16:9 such as the Samsung S32D850 which can be had for just over $700:

(cheaper elsewhere)
Was looking for a IPS monitor recently.
All the reviews i read on this monitor were so so… apparently the bleed through when you go over 60HZ is terrible.. looked at one in a shop when i got my new screen (i went with an ROG which does not have the bleed issues) and i could see it especially when gaming.
Reviews i have read state this is a good screen for everyday use.. not so much for gaming.
Amazing Monitor, and a good Price; By far the best monitor I've purchased.
Highly recommend it.
