5.5% Cashback on Beer at Dan Murphy's @ Cashrewards

660

Was looking to buy some beer from Uncle Dan, so started off at the usual CR deal page to go from there. I found a Cashrewards exclusive offer, with a cashback on beer increased to 5.5%, for a week ending 12 April.

Dan Murphy's
Cashrewards exclusive with rewards increase on beer to 5.5% for one week only

Can I just take 5.5% more beer instead ?

    • +22

If you buy assuming 1 quantity beer, with the cash rewards, ignoring the period of the cash rewards to be available (thus ignoring the possible interest loss), your total spend is 1-5.5%=94.5% of the total price. This means the unit price of your beer is 94.5%/1=94.5%

However, if you want to get additional 5.5% of your 1 quantity beer instead of receiving the 5.5% cash back, you actually are asking if the 5.5% cash back can buy the 5.5% extra beer. If we ignore the package limitation of beer, your new equation of beer unit price is to be 100%(price)/1.055(new beer quantity with extra 5.5%)=94.78673%

This means, your are offering an option to PAY MORE for yourself. Nah, not very OZBARGAIN way!

thanks for the brainhurt, claud0902. I think I need a beer

      • +2

But I would wait 2 months for the cheaper beer. And a beer in the hand gets you 2 in the bushes a lot easier.

        • No, as a true ozbargainer, I would actually use the 5.5% cash back rule and order 1.055 quantity beer for 105.5% of price and waiting for the cash back to be 105.5%x5.5%=5.8025% of price. :)

This makes my total spend 105.5%-5.8025%=99.6975% which is cheaper than your spending of 100% of total price. And we are getting exact same quantity of beer! :)

          Every Cent Counts

        • +2

@claud0902: But you are waiting, and fail to appreciate the beer value of time.

        • @claud0902:

As a true ozbargainer, I would be expecting you to buy the Wish e-gift card at a 5% discount from Cashrewards first, then claim your 5.5% cashback for a total saving of 10.5%, which you could then channel back into more than 5.5% of additional beer! ;p

        • +1

          @megalulz:

Oh, please lets use the 5% wish e-gift card more wisely! For this deal, please FIRSTLY use the e-gift cards purchased from Dan Murphy AMEX offer 1 and Dan Murphy AMEX offer 2 to maximize your saving! :)

          @Risto:
Oh, we are moving from high school to uni. :)

Then the net present value and future value are taking into consideration.

You are spending 100 and I am spending 105.5 and expecting a 5.8025 return in 2 month time.

If you use 12% as r, the annual discount rate (thus the monthly discount rate is 1%), and assume the cash back is available after 2 months,
your spending of 100 after 2 month will be: 100(1+1%)²=102.01
          and mine: 105.5
          (1+1%)²-5.8025=101.8181

My total spending is still lower than you :) And a 1% discount rate is a very high rate in the equation, meaning you have an ability to make your $100 to $101 in a month time.

When your offer would be better? When the monthly rate becomes 2.6%, meaning you can utilize your money to get over 32% return in a year. Your method would be better. :)

Then you have to do business like Apple does. :)

        • @claud0902: If a slab costs $50, at $100 everyone is getting 48 bottles x 375ml = 18 litres of golden godliness. This works out to $5.56/litre. In my Utopian world, Cashrewards would pay me in beer instead of money. I would receive an additional 0.99 litres of beer.

Did you read that? MORE BEER! I Almost got another litre of beer … IMMEDIATELY. And I paid less, IMMEDIATELY.

You can get all smart and play with your high falutin numbers all you like. If you are lucky, you might save $0.19 after 2 months.

You could be dead in 2 months time. Who gets the beer then? What good is the extra $0.19 when you are on your death bed thinking about how you paid MORE upfront to have THE SAME BEER AS RISTO.

Seriously Claude, get your effin priorities straight. If you are looking for such small increments, maybe you should just go to a pub and suck the bar runners for the extra $0.19 worth of beer.

You can carry on like a homological conjecture for as long as you want, but just know that my thoughts are pure and untainted by the numbers that burden you.

I hope this solves your happy ending problem

        • @Risto:

Common, easy man. I am obviously not the one who are serious.

But as I calculated already covers your scenario mate.

We can buy SAME QUANTITY beer and I always pay 5.5% more than you. But I get 5.8025 in TWO MONTH TIME

And even if you take the inflation rate plus interest rate into consideration, you have to add these rate up to 2.66% per month to get a better deal than me. lol.

Yes, ozbargainer counts every cent. Who cares live or die tomorrow? :)

        • @claud0902: I'm taking (and drinking) the piss.

        • @Risto: You still have the beer! You're only waiting for the cash back.

        • @Meconium: but I would have had to pay more upfront. And then I wouldn't have been able to buy another SD card so I could film myself drinking my beer stash.

Woo, time to load up on some Hop Hog IPAs.

    • Damn fine brew that. Lucky enough to have it on tap at my favourite establishment!

  • Was going to buy some Hoegaarden but current price is a rip off $59.90 per case

    • Current member price is awesome though, $10 per pack of 4.

      • +2

How is that cheaper? Please explain. .

        • +1

It all depends on the quantity you are after…

        • +5

it's not, but you can get a 4 pack for (current) carton pricing.
Except of course if you're with Costco where it's ~$44 every day (~$7.50/4 pack).

        • @supabrudda: Wow, is it? I don't drink Hoegaarden enough to appreciate it but that is cheap. Most of their case prices are about a dollar or two cheaper than standard, and often more expensive than sale prices.

      • Yes its convenient but i'd rather it be a 6 pack for that price. I have bought cases for closer to $40 in the past and Costco is $44 everyday.

Still waiting on cashback from the Dan Murphys deal in OCT 2015

    • Does it still say pending in cash rewards? I still have one payment pending from December from Dan Murphies but I have received all of my older ones from November.

  • Took over 4 months for my cash rewards to be available from Dan Murphys

    • -2

I said the same thing one post up. Wait for the cashrewards sock puppets to neg you

      • -4

Cashrewards - how about trying paying what you owe us instead of trying to hide our comments?

  • Shipping kills the deal for me. $12 per carton to rural NSW.
