  • Hi,

Any deals for Cherry Red switches?

    • +1

      @tecnica

Sorry buddy, not at the moment.

      Regards,
      DR

  • Curious how noisy this is.. anyone got one? I am in need of a new keyboard (coming from old cheapo one).

    • If it's Blue, it's noisy. I recommend Brown, which is in between Blue and Red. Comfortable level of noise, but no "click".

    • Typewriter level noise, similar to old IBM buckling spring keyboardz.

      • Wow good to know!! Recommendations? Dont use macros or media controls, just want a nice keyboard for work and gaming thats not too noisy.

        • @Xizor

We now have the Brown switch available.

If you don't need the backlight, you can find cheaper quality boards than this, aim for around $100 or less. There's different brands too like Cougar, Kogan's, Tesoro etc. Be sure to get those with Cherry MX switches, some of them use the kailh (FAILh?) switch which is a derivative of Cherry's.

Keep in mind the Quickfire XTI (this deal) only do color variations that a blue LED and red LED can produce, cannot do colors that require a green LED.

MSY sometimes discounted the previous version - the quickfire XT. The xt "stealth" (key labels on side of keys rather than topside) went for $79 before.
I have the old ver (quickfire xt) and its quite solid, no complaints.

Switch wise, if your colleagues don't mind click-click-clicks all day, you may get away with blues. If they're the brainy deep thinker programmer type maybe not so much.

Whether you'll go with Blues or Brown (tactile) or the opposite (Red), is a personal choice. Halfway down a keypress (2mm of 4mm) do you want a resistance (bump) or do you want it to just go 4mm down without the bump.
Blue: more definite bump and a definite click noise, Brown: less definite, quietish click unless you bottom out at 4mm down.
50nM force to press down Blues, 45nM for Browns and Red (10% less)

Between Brown or Red, there are two camps usually:
A: Those who recommend MX Browns as a starter board, a Do All.
B: Those who recommend Red: a soft easy switch, no bump in the way. Great for typing Manifestos (not tiring at all), good for games if you're constantly pressing WASD keys. I'm on Camp B, I feel brown is like a lukewarm drink, not quite cold, not quite hot. I feel people should have Blues and Red to experience the whole spectrum of MX Switches.

There's new switches coming (I've been out of the loop) like "Silent Cherry" etc, follow the discussion at Whirlpool

          The long guide on switches

There goes my lunchtime, hope that helps!

        • @payton:

Thank you for the detailed explanation mate.

          DR

        • @payton: Much appreciated mate. So much info to digest! Yes gaming it's WASD for me. I am curious if you find any downsides to cherry red?

Sounds like the clincher is i need to find somewhere and actually feel Red v Brown as seems like there is a big difference. My keyboard at work and at home are very different as it is today, so i would probably get used to anything anyway.

The keypress force is the same between Red v Brown, the difference is whether a little resistance/feedback at 2mm is preferable or not.

I'd recommend either Blue or Red. The little feedback on Brownis too little, might as well buy Red. Red is less tiring, quieter, ideal for gaming but Blue's click is 'interesting'.

The feedback from a brown/blue would be like a feedback you get from the common office keyboard, but notably crisper.

If you can find a demo mech keyboard at JB Hifi or EB games that would be ideal. The box of Razer Blackwidow boards (blue) used to have an open section so you can try out the direction keys (←↑→)

@payton: Awesome. I'll check that out. I am leaning towards Red now. :)

        • @Xizor: I can attest to what payton said. Tried all 4 main switches and the bump on the browns is more annoying than useful.

  • Hi, how about MX Brown?

  • .
This model comes in 3 different switch variations how come you only list Cherry MX Blue as they're a bit noisy

    SGK-4060-KKCL1 (Cherry MX Blue switch)
    SGK-4060-KKCM1 (Cherry MX Brown switch)
    SGK-4060-KKCR1 (Cherry MX Red switch)

  • I will make a purchase once I am home tonight. Hopefully the deal is still available.

    • @donkeykong

      Great buddy! hopefully so..

  • How is this compare to this one Logitech G310 Atlas Dawn Compact Mechanical Gaming Keyboard @ dicksmith for $89.50 ( 50% off ) ?

    • +1

This one is basically RGB without the colours that need a green LED to produce, with many effects the g310 can't do. The switches are also different and the look of the keyboard is a LOT more professional and sleek. I heard that the switch mounting on the g310 isn't very good and makes the keys feel cheap also. Overall the XTi offers everything you want without green LED.

      • Can I just go with the G310 as my first and cheap mechanical keyboard ?. Is there any cheaper mechanical keyboard than the G310 ? My keyboard is making more noise than an old bomb on the roads …

        • your decision

  • +1

This is basically exactly what I'm looking for - a conservatively styled cherry MX blue keyboard with media controls.
Only thing I don't care for is the lighting - would prefer a non backlit KB with the letters printed on the keycaps. anyone got any suggestions? The amount of options is overwhelming

    • +2

Browse PC Case Gear and choose something with the switches you want, that looks nice and has the lighting (or not) you want. https://www.pccasegear.com/category/113_257/keyboards/all-ke…

If you want solid, without the lighting, Ducky are quality. Can't go wrong there, though they tend not to have separate media controls (mine does via function key (ie. Windows + F1 etc).

Edit: The new Ducky seem to have basic media controls (volume etc) on the top right.

      • Thank you!

  • Any cherry red or razor on special OP?

    • @Xizor

Unfortunately, no special on the cherry red version at the moment.

We have a wide range of Gaming Keyboards to choose from:

      • Hello rep,

Could I get free shipping on these other keyboards?
Was thinking of Masterkeys Pro S since it's just $20 more :/

        Thanks!

        • +2

          @SexCymbal

We generally only offer this for special occasions, and seeing as though you have a creative username. This is a one use per customer code "#FREEPOST" should give you free shipping on other keyboards, or anything else you need on the website.

          Enjoy.
