Medium Popcorn and Drink Combo - $11.50 (+ $2.50 Post) (Save $4.30) @ Hoyts VIA Spendless.net.au

60

Candy bar prices at Hoyts can be a rip off so I proceeded to search for a good deal for myself and my 4yo when we visit the cinemas tomorrow. I came across a great deal for a medium drink and popcorn combo for only $11.50! That is a perfect deal for 2 and will be making good use of it regularly!

$11.50 Hoyts Medium Popcorn and Drink Deal

I assume that also includes the movie ???

Otherwise, you can just get popcorn and drink from a supermarket for around $3

    • I doubt it JV.

OP, When i go to the movies, which is not often as its a freakin rip off to start with, ill put a 50c bottle of water in my back pocket and a sandwich bag full of nuts /chips/ or even microwave popcorn in my front.

If im extra hungy, ill wear cargo shorts and also pakc a sandwich or two

I suggest you do the same - then you can spend the money saved buying little Timmy one of the many accompanying pieces of merch and toys to go with the latest film you watched

      • spend the money saved buying little Timmy one of the many accompanying pieces of merch and toys to go with the latest film you watched

Cheaper to get the movie toy via a Happy Meal at Maccas…

(That's what an OzBargainer would do…)

        • Unfortunately, most little Timmys these days demand a significant fraction of the dozens of pieces of available merch for any given film

so while you may get one of the said pieces with your happyburger, he will still need a t-shirt, hat, lunchbox, backpack etc to cherish for a few weeks until the next movie is released, and the old stuff inches its way towards landfill

I am pretty sure it is against OzBargain law to buy food at the cinema candy bar? :)

    • yep, it's a bannable offence ;)

So normal price is $14.80 (buying direct from Candy bar?), it cost $11.50 + 2.50 = $14 from here. So really you only save 80cents? Plus you gotta wait for them to send the voucher, risk forgetting to use the voucher, assuming there's no problem with the transaction. Sorry, doesnt sound like its worth it.

  • For those wanting to have a cheaper time at the cinema:

Telstra Thanks gets you a large popcorn and drink for $13 at participating cinemas (most BCC, Event and Village), and you get the tickets for $12.50 each. (you select at checkout, so no need to fiddle with coupons or anything)

Pity the Optus promo ($11 tickets, Hoyts and some other smaller cinemas) doesn't also get you any discount on the concession stand. (you prepay for vouchers at that cinema, then use the coupon code to redeem online at Hoyts, or at the cinema itself if it's a smaller one)

To be eligible for either, you need a Telstra My Account (prepaid card works, I'm sure a $2 sim will work ;) else go get a $30 starter kit from HN for $10), and register for first an Optus My Account then to Optus Rewards (again, a $2 prepaid sim worked for me). You will likely need to wait at least 24 hours between each step (activation, registration, in Optus' case the second registration) as your account won't have propagated properly otherwise.

As far as food goes, I carry a sidebag and have often carried hot food in. Those new KFC snack boxes are small and discreet. :)

For those wanting a cheaper time at the cinema:

Don't bloody well buy any of the overpriced junk they try to sell.

So how about a toasted cheese sandwich and a torrent at home?

        • Well, to stay within legal methods, a toasted cheese sandwich and Netflix AU. :)

@kwchaz: with the added bonuses of not having to go to the cinema, no noisy idiots, no overly-loud sound… that said, I still sometimes like to go to the cinema.

      • Definitely, hence why I generally bring my own food in. :)

From memory, the cinema at Southbank Brissie (and their partner cinema somewhere else) charge VERY acceptable rates for tickets and food/drink.

  • RAC membership is $10.20 for the same thing.
