  • Is there a new mobile phone number given for each pack ordered?

    • yes, it's a starter pack

    • +1

      No.

Unlike starter packs from Lebara and Telstra, Vodafone starter packs do not come with printed mobile numbers for each pack. With Vodafone, you will only receive a new number (or be given the chance to transfer a number) at the time of starter pack activation and identity verification.

  • Already brought 7 for next year @ 11.9…change the price overnight?

    • +5

To accommodate for delivery with tracking. With regular delivery (no tracking), auspost was misplacing orders per past experience

      • +2

orders for 3 or more will be posted via registered post.

So if orders less than 3 are not posted via Registered Post (that is, normal post), how is the price rise justified?

    • Already brought 7 for next year @ 11.9…change the price overnight?

didn't the $11.90 deal expire on the 13.02.2016?
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/234008#comment-3462358

      • i don't know i checking the website out of the blue saw that price 11.9..must be price error or something.

  • so, i can buy 5-6 and recharge every month?

or, next month i will have to port my number out and then port back to the new starter pack again?

what does this mean exactly? ACTIVATE BEFORE 31/5/2016 TO GET 4GB BONUS (makes 8gb in total)

    • +3

yah. youll need to port out next month and back onto a new starter pack.
if you activate the sim card after 31/5, youll get 4gb data only unless vodafone extends this offer

      • When you say No expiry, do you mean No expiry for the pack to be activated? how about the Data and call usage? expired in one month?

        • you can activate the pack anytime - no expiry on the starter pack
once activated - credit lasts for 28 days
activate before 31 may 2016 to get 8gb data

  • Does anyone know if I can use this prepaid combo sim purely for the data in my vodafone wifi modem and NOT my phone? Or will the dongle only work with a dedicated data sim? I only bought this to use the internet data..

    • I've succeeded doing this with a previous deal with these sim cards. I don't use the calls.

      • +2

yah i have personally used only for data too in a modem. works fine

        • Thank you maraco and store rep!!

  • +9

Folks - for those of you who are new to the world of prepaid starter packs, welcome, and we hope you enjoy your stay.

To make things easier, check out last week's posts on Amaysim starter packs and Coles' Vodafone starter packs, for any questions. Almost all conceivable questions have been answered there and it'll help you as well, as you won't have to wait around for the same answers and you can jump straight into this deal.

    Cheers,
    Kaptn

  • Can I buy several and just swap out the sim when the data is used?

Need temporary mobile data until adsl is up again.

    • +1

ya i did that when i moved in. lived off sims for 6 months lol
when u run out just chuck it and activate another one. telstra is the hardest in my opinion, for some reason you cant have more than 1 sim under your name. if you try activating more than 1 telstra service under your name within 2-3 days, theyll deactivate it.

with optus or voda, no issue as such

  • Note — this is a combination mini SIM / micro SIM. If you need a nano SIM, the seller appears to offer a cutting service for $1 extra.

    • +1

title updated you can also get it swapped for free from your local voda store, once youve activated the sim

      • Came to say this, last time I was charged an additional $1 for a nano sim and someone posted later that you can just get it swapped for free at a local Voda shop (I didnt know however you had to activate it first).

  • What happen with your site OP? can't get to paypal

    • plz try again.. anyone else having problems checking out?

      • it's all good now thanks OP, bought 3 packs

  • can this be used for the $5 roaming?

    • No. That's postpaid only.

  • ah did not realise credit only last for 28 days.. any chance i can cancel the order rep?

    • yah, just email your order number plz

      • 8309, thanks rep

  • OP, what about International SMS and MMS? Are they unlimited, too?

    • plz chk here http://www.vodafone.com.au/personal/prepaid/plans

am not sure.i doubt it though

    • +1

From what ive seen in past posts, voda phone prepaid does not include international sms nor mms. Optus and Amaysim do. Dunno about telstra.Shame really.

      • Thank you. I checked. It's "Standard international TXT 35c per message". No mention of Intl MMS though.

Hi, is there any chance you could ship these to New Zealand?

    • The OP might be able to do that, though unlikely, but please keep in mind that:

      • you will not be able to activate this in NZ,
      • the cost of this product, along with the additional postage charges, would make this a very unattractive proposition, and
      • as this is a prepaid service, it is not eligible for free roaming in NZ.
      • Would this pack be suitable for a tourist who is planning to visit Australia and wanting to be able to use the sim the moment they landed? Hence a possible question to OP if this could be delivered to overseas?

        • Not sure if you would have the required identification to activate such a product. But any resident could activate the sim for the tourist if you had the VCode and temporary pin.

I've never had issues with activation. If you complete the process the sim will be activated in 15 min.

Unlike Telstra which has failed 50% of the time. Got told to wait 24 hours then was told it failed and to activate manually via call center.

        • @imcold:

i can't see why an overseas passport (70 pts), driver licence (25 pts) and a cc (25 pts) would be refused during an activation.

Hey erroorfree: your website says St Kilda, do you do pickup for cheaper?

    • Really, that is worth a neg?

      • hey mate, you can pick it up for $12 flat
        cheers

  • +1

Is there any way of activating this as a mobile broadband sim as the $40 is worth 12gig for 40 days with the double data deal.

  • Does "No expiry" means this starter pack is always sold for $12.5 at Phonebot?

    • It means Vodafone starter pack never expires.

    • Vodafone starter packs do not have an expiry date. That's probably what the OP meant.

  • I managed to grab 7 Amaysim packs, this is perfect to go with it!

Just wish they were in Nano size.

    • Just trim them to size. Use an old Nano sim as a guide.

      • Yeah, I've actually got a sim cutter lol.

I just like the cleanness of a pre-cut SIM — but since these are monthly's, I can ignore that.

        • Post activation, visit a Vodafone store and swap your SIM card for free.

        • @KaptnKaos:

I'll just live with the imperfect cuts — bought 7.

Have 14 * 28 days worth now, perfect for my new 6P.

          EDIT:

Also ordered a Telstra SIM according to my bank history, make that 15 * 28.

Live life on the edge Yanoflies! :D

  • So basically up til end of May we are pretty much paying 12.50 for 8GB total. Activating after end of May they turn into 4GB only sims.correct?

    • A+

      • Groovy. Means ill can save the amaysim packs for later ;).

        • +1

Yeppers, just keep in mind that you'll have to port out of Vodafone then back in if you want to keep your number. If you're only after the data, then go all in!

  • Is the network 4G speeds? I bought Lebara but I think it's only 3G, such a bummer.

    • Where available

    • +2

Lebara (similar to Kogan Mobile) is intentionally limited to Vodafone 3G, because both providers use a part of Vodafone's network.

This is a Vodafone starter pack, and therefore would connect to the entire Vodafone network including 4G, subject to the capabilities of your handset and network availability in your areas of use.

To check 4G availability in your area, Google "Vodafone coverage check".

    • +7

How's the 'abuse' any different? You're still only using a single service at a time.

Why should I play $30-50 when I can pay $10-12.50? Am I also horrible for buying a phone outright rather than on a plan? Because I'm not feeding my money into my Telco?

    • I can answer yes to all of those questions. Vodafone is rather nice

    • I think you will find that it's a very small minority that acutely port month to month. The telcos would be fully aware of it but have yet to come up with a way to stop it without having a negative effect on themselves.
It's really no different to taking advantage of the 55 days interest free credit cards offer.
If every customer was frugal enough to get the best out of these deal they would stop it in a flash but luckily for the minority that port monthly or never pay interest on their credit cards there's plenty out there paying around $100 per month for phone calls and data and paying off credit card debts at high interest rates.

      • +1

Telcos are selling services for which they have already recouped the costs long long time ago. Even at this price, surely voda's winning. With economies of scale, voda's cost with printing packaging and distributing would be way way low (approx $2-$3). On top of that, surely theyll have ratios and averages on how many activated services get recharged. Even if its 10%, thats 10% added revenue for selling a service which is already been paid for (not accounting for employee wages ofcourse).

Judging from the following article, telcos do no make 'enough' money or what they would have desired. 9% net revenue growth for Optus's previous qtr sounds good to me but not to Mr.Allan lew.

        http://www.smh.com.au/business/optus-ceo-allen-lew-says-mobi…

Apparently Mr.Allan will miss his fat bonus if he missed his 2018 targets

  • can i put this in a huawei vodafone branded pocket wifi

      • lol, rep any sales on google play card soon ?

        • no boss . nothing in sight

    • No, that's Telstra only.

  • Does the data credit expire after 28 days? Or only the call and sms credit?

Was thinking about buying a few for holidays at Christmas time, but activating before the end of may so I can get the bonus 4GB data.

    Thanks.

    • Everything will expire in 28 days after activation
