Logitech K400r Wireless Touch Keyboard $12.50 @ Dick Smith Instore

1090

Stopped by the Logan Central QLD store to see if they had any of this mornings deals in stock but lucked out when I price checked the k400r. Dick Smith has a shelf price of $63, but they're only $39 at OfficeWorks. I've uploaded the receipt if any pesky sales assistants give you trouble.

There were 4 left on the shelf at Logan Central when I left.

These are awesome..l had one for a few years now.

Dont think , just go get one at this price

while i agree mostly i still use my fly mouse/air mouse (whatever the hell its called) 99% of the time and this the 1% of the time i need to actually type stuff on my HTPC and i dont have VNC handy.

for $12 im thinking about getting a spare, because $12

I've had so many wireless and BT keyboards for my media centre and they're all hopeless and unreliable - this one included.

      • im guessing you have the receiver plugged into the back of your pc, getting shielded by all the metal in the pc case and behind all that RF interference? yea i have no idea either why you are having so many problems and in the 20 odd years ive been using wireless peripherals ive had none…

        • +5

I have actually tried 3 different keyboards with the receivers plugged into the back, front, and on a small extention hub laid further out in front to shorten the distance. In all nine experiments, I get regular intermittent dropouts.

@Oliver: Perhaps you have something operating on or near the same frequency nearby.

        • @Gravy: Thanks I'll investigate further.

        • That's because a good tradesman discards tools that don't work, and won't take on a job beyond his or her knowledge. An end user is not a tradesman.

        • Also what is the range that youre trying to use the device? Are the batteries new? (Alkaline dont use eneloops)

Fantastic price for these. I use them for my HTPC.

    • +2

I use this with my "HTPC" too (running windows). That's a great price!

I team it up with one of these: http://www.amazon.com/YUMQUA-Portable-Handheld-Ambidextrous-…
you'll find them under a number of chinese brands… all the same thing.

I find the control from the trackball mouse way better than any of the "air mouse" options, plus it's the only air-mouse device I found that actually has a scroll wheel. Very comfortable to hold and better than the keyboard touchpad when you don't need a keyboard.

      • +1

Thanks for the recommendation. I love this keyboard, but the trackpad is very up and down. This looks like the perfect solution.

        • +1

fwiw i love my air mouse. use it constantly (mint linux htpc) tho im usually vnc'd (remote desktop) into it anyway from my pc next to my lounge so tend to also use that.

Question is, where else do they have any?

    • +1

indooroopilly Shopping center, QLD. There are some

      • There were some in Capalaba on Saturday when they were still about $35

      • +3

I'm not surprised there's stock in Indooroopilly. No one wants to go through their crappy carpark to get there!

        • +1

I feel it is better than Garden City because you don't need to stop and get a ticket, just drive in and your plate is captured automatically.

        • +1

          @divious:
dont even know which is worse they're both pretty bad.

  • +1

lol I have a spanking new Microsoft Sculpt Ergo KB&M that was suppose to replace the K400r that was a temporary use from tablets/phones, yet I can't bring myself to stop using the K400r and 14mths have passed since. touch pad has proved to come in handy a few times.

    Good KB A+++

  • Logan Central aye?

DSE thought they'd rather sell it for a bargain price and get some money out of it rather than have it stolen anyway lol

  • -2

    Damn Daniel!

  • If officeworks is cheaper, then will officeworks price match Dick Smith? Who knows.

    • +4

      Excludes clearance pricing

    • -5

Trust me, if you ask officeworks, they will. Who does not want to sell for more?

      • Nope wont trust you. Officeworks chadstone made me jump through hoops when i tried to ask them to pricematch COLES for a jackson adapter. And they refused, saying it was "out of stock".

        • and the price i was asking them to match was a normal everyday price

        • @nairdajun:
You could always tell them to check the other stores stock. If not, sue them.

        • @iTzMilzy: their "policy" is that we check the store closest to us. Another made up excuse I think. Because you think all Coles are all out of Jackson adapters? What a joke

    • "If officeworks is cheaper, then will officeworks price match Dick Smith?"

      • What a bumpy mistake I made. oopsies.

        • Haha. That's ok.

Hence my sarcastic comment as above but no one seemed to get it and I got neg a lot. LOL

  • +1

None in Leichhardt (NSW). They do have the Dick Smith PLATINUM Wireless Touchpad Keyboard - Black Color for $12.50. Shows online as $29.99 but I don't believe they are updating the Website anymore.

A tad too small for my liking compared to the Logitech K400r which is closer to full size. Good price though,
NOTE: Don't rush there until Tues as shopping Marketplace shopping centre is closed all the Easter weekend!

Got 1 in pacific fair QLD but for $15

waiting for the k830 to come down again also - last I checked at the beginning of the week it was 60.00

    • I checked that too last night and it scanned at $60 at Logan Central

      • +1

I just paid $65 at Rockdale for the K830. I dont think waiting is an option as it was the only logitech keyboard left in the shop.

The elcheapo miniature DSE model was still $30.00.

        • yep - missed out. There was about 10 on shelf on monday, went in yesterday and couldnt find any. Computer says 4 in stock! Dont wait - It just topped my day off! I had to resort to the 400r for $15.

  • Logan central actually having decent products? thats a laugh

  • +1

Thanks OP! Quick q can this be used with a lohitech unified USB receiver?

    • +2

Yes, this uses the unified receiver - sorry, I should have added that to the description

    • +2

yep comes with its own unifying receiver which has a home in the battery tray if you already have one that your using from another product.

    • +1

      Thanks guys!

  • sigh, had my eye on this unit but am now in central qld. might have to divert plans to check out rocky or yeppoon DSE haha :p

  • +1

If you can find a tk820 DS have them for $20 and their twin pack 1.5m gold plated braided Uhd 4k compat HDMI cables $5 per pack. Not sure what the tiny Wi-Fi DS platinum touchpad keyboards are like for $15 ~ I'm thinking not so gd.

  • +1

This is a great cheap wireless keyboard, I use it all the time for my HTPC and haven't had any issues.

  • +1

Another option for those in the media keyboard market

    Mirrabooka WA, no stock.

  • +1

I remember buying 2 of these for $10 @ AusPost on clearance. Very handy! However, there's no numpad option like on some laptop keyboards without physical numpad buttons.

  • +1

    Thanks OP

  • +3

Went to look for this but none in stock. Got the K830 instead for $25 which I thought was a bargain - supposedly 75% off . This is the wireless model only, there is a bluetooth version but that was $60+.

    • +1

Can you share the model for the wireless version? Can't find it.

  • +1

Indroopilly have about 5 left. But they're $15 each.

  • Innaloo WA (Both stores) - No stock.

  • NSW stores with no stock:
    Seven Hills
    Blacktown
    Merrylands
    Fairfield

Learnt that the hard way, man what a waste of a morning, complete incompetence from the DS staff, glad they are going out of business

    • +2

How enthusiastic would you be about answering customer questions if you knew your job was gone and the only reason you were still there was so that you wouldn't lose your redundancy payment? Go easy. These are human beings, and they never had much decision making power.

      • you take a job, you do it properly until your last day. no buts or ifs.

        • +1

Yes because everyone's perfect and this perfect world is full of unicorns, rainbows and butterflies.

        • -1

          @syousef:

im not saying they are perfect, quite the opposite.
most of them didn't do their job properly even before there was any hint of them losing their jobs

        • +3

          @gsxo:

Look obviously you had bad experiences but to go on and say that 3000+ employees didn't "do their job properly" is ridiculous. Sometimes you actually get punished for doing a job well and the people that last are the ones that do what's required to keep the job. That is the real world. The company clearly had issues beyond "bad staff" and in any case it's management that hires and sets the tone.

  • None anywhere i can find. Lots of k400 plus in white only. And the dicksmith platinum.

    • Got the K400 plus. Looks pretty good.
