  • Just received mine, mine had been opened. Very annoyed, the pre setup was already done and lucky me - it is in chinese/asian so i cannot understand it -_-

Will be complaining to kogan about this, as i paid for a BRAND NEW phone not one that has been opened.

    • I don't understand why Kogan would send used or refurbished phones. I would love to find out if they are indeed used or box opened to change software and add AU adapter.

Since it is an ebay Item and paid with Paypal you can dispute it is not as advertised and may be send it back if you wish.

      • +1

        Agree!

Here's what i was told last time when i bought a "Brand New" phone from them but with a Kogan Seal.

"rest assured this is a brand new, internationally sourced handset. We do perform quality assurance checks and as such, we will reseal the device with the Kogan seal. Also, to ensure the device is unlocked."

It just makes me wonder, where exactly do they "source" those handsets??

      • +1

It's a huge hassle to do that. I want the phone is the main problem. I just want it brand new. Not used. Leave the quality checks up the manufacturer Kogan -_-

    • Was there protective tape on 4 sides and the screen? Were headphones sealed? Battery sealed? I am sure they are brand new.

    • +1

Hey so hows your dispute going? Sorry to hear you got a used phone. Really bad of kogan!

      • +1

I sent it back and now they are assessing it. I'll keep you posted :)

  • Received mine today at 9.00 AM, i had to factory reset as it was already set up, but no chinese stuff. Build Date is 03/2016

  • Mine arrived today. Nice upgrade from S4 :)))))

Also received the phone today and came in Chinese. Follow these links to change the phone to English then did a factory reset to the phone.

    • Thanks for the links, very helpful!

      • Is all that i need to do?

        • That what I did and the phone is running smoothly now.

        • @RichardL:
          Thank you!

"04 Apr 16 -12:43 - Port Melbourne (MEL) - AUSTRALIA. Status Delayed Linehaul Departure"

So basically the courier driver called in sick and they couldn't get cover lol????

    Has anybody else had this?

    • +1

Call Toll at 131531, they open until 10pm, give them your tracking no, they will be able to tell you the exact delivery date.

      • They don't actually use toll. They use DPEX

      • Cheers Purple. I gave them a call and apparently they are experiencing delays across their network. It should be delivered tomorrow. Thanks mate.

    • Yes i have the exact same thing. I called Toll and I wanted them to divert it to a local news agency as i wont be home tomorrow. But the Philippines call center couldnt do it because he cant find it!!

    • I got the same thing, hoping to get it tomorrow.

  • +1

Ok got the phone. Has a kogan sticker. Ugly adapter outside the box. Finger prints on the screen. Started with Chinese. Has screen cover. Build 3/2016
    Not complaining so far.

    Edit

Seems my wifi mac address on the phone is different from the box label.
    Battery is 2900mA

    • If it started in Chinese, malware has been installed! read my posts! read my analysis!

  • my G4 leather brown ,everything seems fine but the battery I received of 2900ma , is this correct or should I ask Kogan for a replacement.

    • I realised that too, it advertised as 3000mah, might contact them tomorrow.

      • Just noticed for my phone as well. Will try to get a response from Kogan.

        • +1

After doing some quick google search, it appears to be the same battery (either rounded up or down).

        • @RichardL:
Yep, some preview models had that marking apparently - I guess it depends on whether they are using Taiwanese or Korean amps…

  • -1

Can anyone tell whether the phone received is dual sim ?

    • +1

      Single sim card

  • +1

Received mine today. Leather black. No seal on box. Indented scratch on screen protector…

    Production date 02/2016.

No android set up. Booted in Chinese.

    Battery 2900mA

Did anyone get the 3000mA per the specs?

    • the 2900mah is the 'min' rating on them. seems like all the new batch of g4s are listed min 2900mah instead of 3000mah. and i think for the ones that had 3000mah on the front showed 2900mah on the back of them

    • If it started in Chinese, malware has been installed! read my posts! read my analysis!

  • +1

Really hate the kogan adapter. It is so loose with the g4 charger.

    • +2

Agree, that's why I purchased the Tronsmart Titan. It has QC 2.0.

      • Thanks for the link. It is a bit more than what i want to spend on a charger though as im going to get a spare battery kit as well. Appreciate the thought!

        • If you have multiple devices that supports QC2.0, it would be worth investing in a Tronsmart Titan, which work out to be under $30 (after purchasing AU Figure 8 Cable)

  • +1

Contrary to what others said their camera has no preview in its native app. I confirm mine does.

    • Sorry I meant post photo quick review.

  • To so many in the thread.
Plenty of indications that LG do not factory-seal their phones. Any type of sticker or shrinkwrap that might occasionally be present appears to come after, variously applied by some sellers, local distributors and on telco-sourced stock.

Kogan does what Kogan has always done - by one means or another and at any given point in time, source the cheapest possible stock from its suppliers.

My original Samsung Note booted in French, another in German. Other purchases, including LG have clearly been sourced from closer to Hong Kong distribution.

Any bloat on phones flashed is unfortunate, let alone potential of rooted w/ real malware installed. The Kogan 'One Plus 2' situation, and particularly this essential read (scroll to comment at the bottom of the page), have certainly darkened my perception of Kogan & Co's.

Socks need to be pulled up, but that appears highly unlikely.
    Caveat emptor, as always.

    • I loved the fact that my location was set to NZ, and the Voice was Indian English. They had averaged it to Adelaide quite nicely…

  • There is no way this is the official leather back…. I ordered a black one and it feels like a cheap plastic. It should feel like leather right?

Also 2900mah battery….. Comes with a chinese rom?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE4piEVxxGI Here is how to quickly change the language so you can clean flash it as it contains bloatware

    • True, I was surprised with my "black leather", it may be a very thin layer of a material that looks leather but it isn't. In some you tubes I even saw another standard cover in the box.

    • IT is - the leather was a thin coat on the plastic, as most reviews pointed out. It is a very thin leather, but given the phone is > 1year old now, the consensus on 'later on' reviews is that the leather wears surprisingly well. I had really done my homework on this one, as I had been looking for a sub-$400 phone for a few months but had been dreaming of the G4 for the past year.

The 2900 mAh business is addressed higher up. The only annoyance I had was that it initially failed to find my 5GHz wi-fi band until I had power cycled and left then returned home. Once picked up, it hangs on fine, tho other users have reported problems with the 5GHz implementation.

      • +2

I sorted the issue of the G4 not finding my router's 5Ghz by plugging in my sim later on. Seems you need the phone sim before configuring the phone as the country code on the sim enables some 5Ghz band frequencies (found this on a forum somewhere)

        • That makes sense -I always leave the SIM out when starting a new Android, as they used to merrily start updating via the phone rather than the Wi-Fi. Still, that level of lock-out from even the virtual metal makes me a bit sadder that is is boot-locked :-/

      • So they use different leather in the tan vs black?? I can't imagine this happening to the black one as it seems so plastic like

        http://www.androidcentral.com/forums-look-leather-lg-g4-afte…

        • It could be - my red is definitely leather, but I noticed that the surface finish seemed to differ between the colours in the Yuotube clips I looked at. It's also a bit of a shame that the leather backs don't have the wireless charging either. I've got a cheapy knock-off circle case on ATM, as I ordered my screen protector later thinking I would be waiting another week, and may try swapping over the NFC unit for the NFC/Qi once I feel patient and courageous enough once it arrives.

    • Yeah i complained about the bloatware installed, we'll see what kogan does!

  • Can any one recommend good accessories for G4 like wireless charger

  • I'm going to try letting the smoke out with an all-singing all-dancing slimport/OTG/Hub/Card reader thingy from Gearbest for a bit of small change. The stuff has usually turned up well within three months for me, so I may be able to say if it does what it says on the tin sometime before next spring.

    http://www.gearbest.com/cables-adapter/pp_186712.html

I'm having trouble sourcing a HDMI 2 slimport cable tho. Still, I don't see the point of getting a 4K screen until I can afford a 100cm one to stand a meter away from to appreciate…

  • Got my black version yesterday and it had Kogan sealed. I forgot to check the finger prints on screen but it was booted in English and Android was already setup. It is 3/2016 batch and I am quite happy with the performance so far.

  • Anyone know if the bootloader can be unlocked on this model ?? I know it's the H815 but after reading on XDA and /r/LGG4 it seems as though the Taiwan variant can't be unlocked unless you're on Lollipop (Unofficial unlock).

Which is (profanity) shit because the ebay page for this sale said "International model" and "Android 5.0 Lollipop" and yet it was clearly taken out of the box and updated to Marshmallow… Going to be seriously pissed if I can't unlock the bootloader and LG doesn't eventually add this model to the list of supported devices for official unlock.

    • +1

Going to be seriously pissed if I can't unlock the bootloader and LG doesn't eventually add this model to the list of supported devices for official unlock.

      prepare to be annoyed..
Bootloader is not un-lockable under Android MM, and whether LG does it to a now outdated model is yet to be seen

      • I'm not sure what to do now… It's my mum's phone so for now it won't make too much if a difference as it's sitting on M and will probably see an N release (eventually)

The thing that upsets me is this hardware will still be fine assuming there's no massive changes in O or P. I always make sure the phones I buy have XDA community support.

I guess I either return it or I can hope that LG decide to allow the bootloader unlock, someone finds an exploit to unlock it/bypass it.

        Poop, Thanks kogan

    • Seriously it's not that bad, you can still root the phone.

  • Damnit Toll, you had one job "Undeliverable: Sorted to incorrect run"

    Hopefully tomorrow then.

  • Got my black one. Today production date 2/2016. No Android setup screen, all in English tho.

  • Hey, so I eventually got mine today. It had been opened but with Kogan QA. Fingermarks on the plastic cover, dirt on the edges and slight scratches on the plastic cover. Also there appears to be a sticker already on the inside of the battery door or is this normal and do I need to add a QI sticker? The phone booted up in Chinese, so should I factory reset it? Also I got a crappy Kogan converter with a USA/Canadian/Mexico adapater inside the actual package, did anybody else get this? Production date 12/2015, I guess it was too much to ask for it to be this year lol.

This reminds me of that one time that I bought a crappy Lenovo phone in Chinese of eBay. So weird.

    Thanks in advance :)

    • You'll find on the eBay page that the adaptor is expected:

The charger plug may not be suitable for your region. However, please be assured that you will be provided with a complementary adapter plug for charging.

      • That's fine. It's the least of my worries to be honest as I already have around 5 different adapters haha. I am deciding whether or not the phone has been used before. It just seems a bit odd.

    • +1

The sticker in the battery door is the NFC. I grabbed this:
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261988108745

cheap and cheerful circle case as the phone came a lot quicker than my screen protector. It provides Qi charging, and you get the 2 second view of the brilliant clock faces whenever you open and close it. If you 'flip' the face while displayed, you then get the menu for such things as the quick-shot camera [which does a surprisingly brilliant job especially in low light] or the pedometer.

  • Finally got mine today everything was sealed phone sealed around, battery and accessories there was no setup wizard but all english so did a factory reset … Build 03/2016 and already came with Android 6.0 Marshmallow didn't recognize any visible finger prints that i have seen while unboxing. Overall very happy and satisfied.

    • Hey, so it wasn't opened by Kogan? I'm glad it worked out for you :)

  • Received today
Brown. Build 01/2016. Came with Chinese with some third party apps installed. Works fine, knock code is no replacement for a fingerprint sensor though.

    • +1

No, but the sd card slot and an FM radio that will record stereo music and ignore the announcer's rabbiting between tracks while doing so is :-)

  • Wow if anybody wants a good read:

the stories and lies from Kogan employees past/present, funny as hell!

  • Can anyone please help. I am currently using Samsung S3 with Amaysim, when I transferred my Amaysim Micro Sim to Lg g4, all the contacts did not get move to LG G4, anyone know how to fix it? Thanks you in advance.

    • Your contacts are stored on the SIM card or Phone Storage or Google Account?

    • +3

Depending on where your current contacts are stored.

      • If they are on your phone, you can transfer them to Google Contact. Read more here
      • If they are stored on the Google Contacts, then on you LG G4 go to Contacts -> Contacts Settings (Top right corner) -> Contacts to display -> Google account
      • If they are stored on the SIM card, then on you LG G4 go to Contacts -> Contacts Settings (Top right corner) -> Contacts to display -> SIM

If you require assistance, reply to this comment.

      • Thank you, RichardL, chengjianer and Volution for all your input. Thanks Richard for such a details explanation, much appreciate. Yes, I have followed your instruction & resolved the contacts issue. Thank you again all the kind people.

        • No problems, was in the similiar postion when I switched over from iOS.

    • Before i got my G4, i was using my 4 year old S3 as my nexus 5 had display issues. You will definitely see a HUGE technology improvement going to the G4. Don’t get me wrong, the S3 is still functional but it lags like it needed steroids badly. I hope you sorted out your contacts issue and you should jut back it up using google cloud.

Got mine yesterday. Build date Feb 2016 brown and works with telstra band 28 frequency (took a gamble with the purchase).
As previously stated, LG phones doesn’t come pre sealed from factory. There was a seal from the shop that kogan outsourced it from. But that seal was opened. I think kogan took the phone out (there’s fingerprint mark and placed the phone the wrong side up) and change the language setting to English and then seal it back using Kogan’s seal. The phone is pretty much brand new with all seals intact from front lcd panel to the side of the bezels. It doesn’t come with the extra plastic cover that you might have seen on youtube unboxings. Battery is 2900mAh and comes with a nice ear phone quadbeats 3.
Turned on the phone and there’s no preliminary android startup and booted straight to the menu (quite quick too compared to my nexus5). Fortunately, there’s no chinese bloatware present but I’ve done a factory reset anyways just in case. Factory default comes with Marshmallow 6.0. Coming from stock android phones, I can definitely vouch that the LG skin is very good and useful too. I don’t generally like skins on phones like touchwiz etc but this one really works. The level of customisation is far superior than stock android. The simplest example is that you can alter the position of the “back”, “home”, “drawer” buttons to your liking and actually add more to it for example, multitasking window, capture, top menu pulldown etc. For now, I don’t see any fault with the phone and hopefully it will last me for 2 years before I move on to the G5 or G6.

    • +1

" nice ear phone quadbeats 3."
Hmm they are nice to handle, but for anyone wondering about the value of Xiomi Pistons, the LG ones went straight back in the box after a brief trial :-p. Still, compared to other standard supplies, they are not too bad, just without the clarity of the pistons.

  • Picked up this Circle case for < $3 AUS delivered and it works great!!!!

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/272011909978

    • Has your case has arrived? I bought a similar case from an Aus based seller but when I flip the cover to the back, the quick circle clock comes on. Because of this I am not able to use it using both my hands. I will be returning the case. Very disappointed. :-(

      • Yep same. But for $3 it was fine.

        • I know what you mean but I find it v annoying.

        • @titan0r:

Doesnt really matter when on a call and when on a desk it isnt wrapped around. I reckon even the original ones would do it.

  • Does anybody's phone get hot and battery drain quickly? It went from 92% to 29% in 9 hours and I didn't use it that much :/
