Has anyone gone from a G3 to a G4? I love my G3 but it's a bit laggy lately (it's the 2GB of ram model; I shouldn't have been stingy on that).

Is the G4 a big enough upgrade?

    • +3

Personally if I had the G3, I wouldn't bother upgrading. The G3 is still a really good phone, decent screen, good specs.

Alternatively, if you are so keen on the G4, you could sell your G3 for $180-200 on eBay, to recoup the cost of the G4. If not you might have to wait for a year for the G5's price to drop.

  • Dam you OzBargain…

  • Was going to buy one, now they are out of stock:(

    • 2 browns left

      • +3

I'm vegan only want the gold one, thanks anyway.

        • But if you don't eat the phone, where do you get your protein from?

        • -1

          The leather is vegetable tanned….

Doesn't that at least fit into some kind of vegetarian-categorisation?

    • Just wait Kogan may push out more stock if they gone OOS

    • back in stock baby

  • ordered 2 black one's..good deal…was tempted for nexus 6P but still can't justify the extra money for pure android experience…

    • i had a nexus 5 before pretty similar ui but definitely not worth the extra 250-300

  • Can't resist the temptation. Ordered one. Thanks OP.

  • Considering us Ozbargainers probably bought 650 phones or more, how long will they take to ship it out? Ruslan is probably laughing all the way to the bank!

  • looks like they restocked :)

    • +1

Damn, how many G4s does Ruslan have in his warehouse…

    • Only brown and black?

      • shows up as more than 10 available on all the links

  • I just got a black one, I hope this works with Telstra and warranty is good even tho overseas stock.

  • Just bit the bullet, bought a black leather. I'm upgrading from a day 1 iPhone 5, the sim I have is a nano and the G4 is a micro what's the best way to use the sim in the phone? Should I just ring up Telstra to send me another or can I buy a $2 sim? I haven't used an android since the first Samsung Galaxy tab 7", what are some accessories I can order via eBay before my phone gets here. I'm going to get the gel case and nuglas a previous poster suggested. Cheers

Edit: I've just come across slimports, has anyone use it on a G4 before any probs? Can you charge the device as well when connected to hdmi?

    • Buy a $2 sim and use that to activate your existing number. A pain though as the CS do not understand what we are after.

    • Just pop by the Telstra shop and ask them to change it for you. Or if not, buy a $1 sim adapter from eBay Australia.

    • Easily cut to shape. Had to do it recently.

  • Just remember I bought a couple of these a while ago, better start looking for it. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/161615

    • Wouldn't recommend using an adaptor. Get it stuck or scratched and you're in for fun. Well worth the $2

  • +5

whyyyyyyy…5am in Lautoka FIJI and i logged in check OZB and just bought this(RED)…i need help…

  • +2

Ah no I just bought the Huawei P8 Titanium https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/239892#comment-3558386 :/

This phone looks much better value.

  • Really want to get as spare phone but with locked bootloader and no custom roms? People who bought, anyone can confirm?

    • +1

unless u need to root it for some specific feature, the fone works great stock

      the camera is (profanity) awesome

  • I am stuck between Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Prime 3GB RAM 32GB and LG G4. Xiaomi is nearly $90 cheaper.

Which one is better and definitely works with Optus?

    • +1

I like this phone for the camera in particular. The chinese phones usually don't have good cameras.

    • +1

I'm on Optus and bought this G4.

Only on a 3G plan so haven't tested 4G yet, but AFAIK the only AU band this doesnt support is the one Optus has rolled out in Canberra only.

      • I don't know how but 4g works for me on this phone (got it from Kogan) and I am in Canberra and with Optus. They must have updated their network since the whirlpool post.

    • Bought in black colour.

    • +1

Camera on this is WAY THE HELL BETTER than the Xiaomi. It will work on optus, but if you are in Canberra you cant use the the faster data.

      • Thanks and I am in Sydney.

  • buggar. if only there was the white gold.

    • Isn't that just a Korean exclusive?

  • Would this phone be a considerable upgrade to the Nexus 5?
My wife broke the screen on the Nexus 5 and I was considering either replacing the screen (DIY) or buying her this G4.

    • +1

      My wife

Camera is important for lady so buy this. The camera is so good.

      • You're right, that was her main gripe about the Nexus 5.
Ok, checking what colour she likes and then gonna pull the trigger on this one.
Hope I don't experience some of the horror stories in dealing with Kogan.

  • I have a Note 4 and still bought one of these! I will get Marshmallow much faster and also the camera looks better. I never use the S-Pen.

I will miss the fast charging.

At that price I could not refuse!

  • Thanks OP. This is a steal. I already own the Brown Leather version. Purchased the red leather back for the wife. Thanks!

  • Thank OP, I've been looking to replace my ageing Nexus 4 for a while, and this looks like a great phone for the price.

  • Thanks op, I just pulled the trigger :) Looking forward to the camera on this.

  • +1

Ordered leather black one to replace my iphone 4S. Looking forward to enjoy the android ecosystem again.

Any suggestions for a case/cover for this leather black?

    • its already in a sweet case. just buy a cheap tempered glass protector from ebay

      • I would like a case. the leather back wont help one bit if you drop it. I would assume not all cases will fit it and it will need to accomodate the extra thickness of the leather?

        • Iirc leather case version won't fit in a normal case. You might have to buy a separate case

      • Any recommendation?

        • Cheapest one with 99% positive rated seller. Some people are happy to pay $15 for a brand name, but so far I've been happy with the cheapest tempered glass protector available on ebay

  • Didn't need it, but bought anyway! Upgraded my G2 which is still going strong by the way. Thanks OP.

  • +1

my God why is this still in stock, its so hard to resist.

    • +1

They are keep putting more stock, really want to see when they are going OOS.

      • They won't. Their business model with HK presence is for a reason…

      • They take orders and then solicit suppliers for them…hence the perpetually replenishing stock levels, and the 2-3 week delivery times.

  • +1

Upvoted for a very impressive phone

  • Is this okay for the Telstra 4G network or is it a bit of a lottery from Kogan?

  • +1

Love my G4. Sweet ass phone camera. Blows wifey's $1500 fruit phone out of the water

    • What phone is 1.5k? A gold plated iPhone?

      • +2
        • +2

I see. Pardon me, had no idea iPhones cost that much.

        • +1

@Cronut: The things people will do for a bit of fruit…

        • What astounds me is that this $1.5k fruit is still bigger than the G4 even though both sport the same size screen. Fruit lovers will surely have claim this as a "feature" and then go all gaga over it…

        • +2

@spy: I was thinking today, that this is how mechanics must see laymen car buyers. We don't know better, so we rely on brand names. Mechanics hop in their second hand Suzuki swifts that they can fix themselves, and laugh all the way to the bank

    Anyone got shipping confirmation ????

    • +1

Ha. Kogan take a few weeks buddy. But it'll come

      • Thanks..just was curious

  • Can someone confirm if the versions that Kogan are currently selling are locked? I hear that they maybe Taiwanese versions.

    • On the ebay page This device is network unlocked

      • Thanks. So Telstra 4G would be okay?

        • I do not see why it couldn't

  • I caved in as well..
My Paypal total states : Total $369.59 ($461.99 - $92.40), but under the activity category says $461.99, haven't noticed any updates to my bank statement. Is this the same for everyone else? I guess because it's a eBay/Paypal deal, Paypal gives the whole amount to Kogan but will only charge me the $369.59?

    • +1

Yes you are correct , if you click in the detail you could see that ebay pay $92.4 for you.

The reason they did this is,when you got refund $92.4 will be refund back to ebay not you.

  • +4

Damn you OZB ☹ Just got one I don't need right now but will need in a few months.

Kogan owes a lot to OZB. I honestly don't think they would sell so much if it wasn't for OZB. Now they can finance Dick Smith acquisition ☺

Delivery on ebay order 13-18th April. Loooooong wait :)

  • Bought the G Flex 2 for ~$350 after CR from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/208321 7 months ago. Feeling the first-hand experience of the damn S810 overheating/throttling. Would jump on this deal if I can sell the Flex.

    • My Flex 2 restart it self constantly therefore I send it back and get a refund.

  • how did i miss seeing this… awfully tempted to upgrade from my OnePlus one for the camera alone

  • Guys terribly confused between this and the Nexus 5X? Any recommendations?
    Nexus 5X over G4

    Fingerprint Sensor
    Stock Android

    LG G4 over 5X

    32 GB + MicroSD
    Removable battery
    Higher Res Screen
    3GB RAM (Futureproof)

Bear in mind this is going to be used by my father and he is not very tech inclined.

    • +1

Get the LG G4 mate. Its a better phone overall.

    • Does he take photos?

      • Yes he does.

        • The choice is obviously G4 then?

    • +1

Nexus 5x if they prefer a lighter, smaller and simpler phone.

      • Simpler? In what sense?

        • stock android.

        • @SpaceNinja: I am a naive, but what's simpler with stock Android that's complicated with non-stock Android? Thanks!

        • +1

@virhlpool: Manufacturers like LG, Samsung and HTC etc. build their own layer on top of the Google's Android OS in their phones.
These layers are aimed adding extra features, customizing UI and branding etc. Though power users might appreciate extra features, this might overwhelm/confuse naive users when compared to plain stock android experience as available in Google's own Nexus series phones.

  • +1

No confirmation email from Kogan, just my paypal's

  • Can anyone confirm whether you can get root access on this version, despite the locked bootloader?

    • isnt the process of rooting your phone is to unlock the bootloader anyways?

  • +1

I have had this phone since mid last year. Marshmallow update literally killed the battery life.
The battery life went from bad to terrible, not even bearable. And the phone used to overheat. Had tried factory resetting a few times, but issues remained. Then, the microusb port died, as apparently the microusb solder onto the mainboard is dodgy. Currently it is with LG getting repaired. Finally got an email back from them (after a month), saying it is fixe3d, they had to replace the entire mainboard and I will have a new IMEI etc and should be shipping back to me next week.
Google "LG G4 battery life issues marshmallow update" and "LG G4 microusb port problems". I'm not the only one. Just a heads up to everyone interested in buying this phone. On the plus side, the camera was outstanding. Best camera i have had on a smartphone. period. Good luck everyone.
