    2GB RAM though !!

    • +10

Then in the trash it goes.

I kid, my lgg2 only has 2gb but it works fine.

      • +4

Same, my LG G2 kicks butt. I was recently given an iPhone 6 for work. Tried it for a week, am going back to the G2.

        • +4

Why? Iphone6 should be quite good, I only hate the price.

        • +3

@stargalaxy: Main annoyance is the photo storage. Throws everything into camera roll instead of albums for each app. Also find the UI quite stale. No NFC. No back button. I know there are probably work arounds for all of these things, but I couldn't be bothered.

        • +4

@Peace Maker: Ya, no back button is annoying especially if you are used to Android. I always forget how to go back on my ipod. I was give a iPhone 5 for work 2 years ago and would have given it a go if the screen is bigger, but I have big thumb and finger, so need a big phone. LG G flex 2 is my main driver nowadays and Note 3 is the back up.

        • +1

          @Peace Maker:
Back button: that's just getting used to the UI having on-screen back button. I was fine without having the back button when I was using the 3GS. Now that I'm on Note 3, every time I use someone elses iphone, I tap next to home button and got nothing.

It's similar to when everyone complained about MS Office when they introduced the Ribbon.

A lot of people don't realise that ram on your phone doesn't work the same way as it does on your computer. If you are reaching your limit, your phone will cull off the inactive apps, so it shouldn't slow down whatever it is that you're currently doing. So most of the time on an android phone, your phone will actually try and cache as much as possible. My note 4 has 1.5gb of bloat on startup, i wouldn't be surpised if it has similar usable ram as this 2gb phone. Still works fine (mostly).

I'm kinda surprised that this phone is this cheap considering the spec's. Seems like a great deal to me.

  • +2

How does this compare with a G3?

  • +9

From what I can find, this has LTE Bands 1/3/5/7/8/17

    So Good for:
2100MHz (B1) FDD – Telstra (a handful of sites), Optus (Darwin, Tasmania)
    1800MHz (B3) FDD – Telstra, Optus, Vodafone
850MHz (B5) FDD – Vodafone (refarming 5Mhz of this frequency to be 4G across all metro areas, claiming by end of 2014)
2600MHz (B7) FDD – Optus, Telstra. (TPG have a license but have not announced plans for it.)
900MHz (B8) FDD – Telstra (a handful of sites, utilises spectrum previously used by 2G)

    Missing:
    700MHz (B28)FDD – Telstra, Optus
2300MHz (B40)TDD – Optus (Vivid wireless spectrum), NBN
3500MHz (B42)TDD – Optus, NBN (trials at this stage)

    • +19

The missing 700 MHZ band 28 is the biggest problem. Australian 4G bands in decreasing order of importance, based on number of current active towers, combined with info from scubacoles:

Spectrum(Band) Telstra Optus Vodafone Total Category Phone has
      1800 (Band 3) 3413 2788 2506 8707 Essential Yes
      700 (band 28) 932 2244 0 3176 very very desirable No
      850 (band 5) 0 0 1710 1710 good to have Yes
      2300 (band 40) 0 1621 0 1621 good to have No
      2600 (band 7) 107 1260 0 1367 good to have Yes
      2100 (band 1) 57 144 0 201 irrelevant at the moment Yes
      900 (band 8) 56 0 0 56 irrelevant at the moment Yes

      Tower data sourced from: http://oztowers.com/Home/Bands

      • +1

Why do you assume that it doesn't do 700? The specs on the Kogan listing say

        4G Network (MHz)
        700 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600

        • +3

It has Band 17 which is 700mhz, but different from the Band 28/700mhz that is required in Australia.

      • +1

What we need, is a database of all handsets available in Australia and also ordered online from overseas, that support 700 (band 28). I looked for a wiki on Whirlpool and there isn't one….

The articles on what phones are available are mostly 12 months old, back when the Telstra 4GX network was launched.

        • +3

          http://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?s4Gs=28

That should show most Band 28 phones, it's pretty helpful to check whether a phone is listed there when looking.

        • +2

@Mamong: Most phones have different variants for different regions, not all variants will support Band 28, so that has to be researched as well. Quite annoying.

        • +2

          willmyphonework.net

      • So all good for Vodafone?

        • +1

Looks perfect for Vodafone. Although my preferred strategy personally is to stay flexible and be able to move at will between any of the 3 networks - I can't stand lock-in. Basically that means the top 5 spectrum(band) entries (by number of towers) will give you that flexibility.

Now that's the theory, but in practice getting a phone that has all those bands is rather hard - the iPhone 6 has all the bands, as well as around ~ 10 Android phones - but it's definitely harder than it should be, and in particular for 700 Mhz (band 28) is often missing, presumably because it's not that important in overseas markets.

    • edit nvm..

Still can't decide - What would be your pick - this LG Flex 2 or Asus Zenfone 2? Thanks :)

    • +1

      AZ2 for me.

    • +4

LG G Flex2 absolutely, I have both. It is more comfortable to hold, screen is better and looks sexier and it is faster than Asus, I have the 4GB RAM Asus but it is slower than the LG.

    • LG Flex :)

    • +1

      Gflex.

      Lighter. Smaller. Sexier.

    • I have a Zenfone 2. I'd say get the Flex 2. Annoyed by occasional lag (maybe because I got the slower 2GB one?).

    • Apparently the flex2 is a bit of a lagfest and overheating as well, in that case I'd say the zenfone.
The lag might be because the throttling of the S810 CPU.
(Saw this in a forum, don't have one so I can't comment on whether it's true)

    • Looks like 4 to 1?, which will you go with?

I hope if I get the flex, that overheating & throttling or lag wont be a issue.

Trying to decide if I should pull the pin in Flex2 myself, to replace my Samsung piece of f*in **beep alpha shit.

What I do like is that the Zen comes in a 64GB spec, shame Flex 2 doesn't (if I'm correct).

Kinda worried about warranty with a OS importer.

I wonder how painful they are to deal with?

    • Thanks for all the feedback. After days of contemplation, finally chose the LG Flex 2 :)

    • NOW we wait and see if Kogan ship it in less than 3 weeks or if they get back saying we never had stock in the first place…

    • Looking on Asus site, it seems the TW is the only version with band 28/700 (will be using Optus), so how does one confirm if its a specific release, as some sites don't mention its 4G specs,eg shopping square?
Am I right in thinking that Kogan is not the TW version?

      • Ahh ASUS…

      • +1

Any hk based site sells the Chinese version. (Kogan and shopping square)
If you want the Taiwanese version you'll have to buy from qd on eBay, good seller.

  • +1

Tempting. 3gb ram would be nice. Was trying to wait for the nexus 5 but my poor old s3 is starting to have serious issues

    • +1

What's wrong with your Galaxy S3?

  • Wow, that's a really good price. Now that my GNex day is numbered. Was going to wait for the new Nexus 5 or Moto X Play / style. Now this come along, too hard to choose.

Does the SD 810 get hot on this handset?

    • it was always thought to be throttled for that reason but i believe the new version of android has fixed most those issues.

    • Normal use, no, it does get to about 30-35 degree. I think if you play games a lot and open a lot of apps at same time, it may get hotter than 30-35 degree, I am sure a lot of us here know that the Snapdragon 810 is also known as Firedragon, for me personally, I did not notice any difference with my Note 3 or Asus Zenfone2 or my old LG G2.

  • PSA: Bootloader is locked so no custom ROMS. At least not yet.

    • It'd be stock Android though, considering it's an LG, right?

      • +1

No its not stock..Its having own skin on top of android.

        • Its not stock, but LG Roms are one of the better non-vanilla Roms IMO.

  • Um..did they just raise the price?

    • No, $451.43 is the price before 20% discount.

      • +4

wow, $100 off. more than i thought. how do i neg myself?

        • +2

You can't, but I can do it for you ;)

        • +2

          As follows:

          Dear tomkun01,

Please take notice that you have been served a 'neg' on the OzBargain website.

          Kind regards,
          tomkun01

          ;-)

  • +1

Does anyone own this phone and is able to comment if the overheating & throttling problem had been fixed with the recent updates? Had a look around XDA, experience seems to mixed.

  • +1

i'd get this if i had the money. instead, i just deleted almost every app on my phone, including facebook, and disabled a bunch of services. now it's quite snappy!

    • Facebook kills performance even when set up not to sync or notify or anything.

      • why does it take a ridiculous amount of space? something like 300 mb (excluding cache!)

  • For those considering to buy this phone, if you do not mind spending another $185.42, go for the big brother: LG G4. It's a better overall phone with a killer camera.

GODDAMNIT I JUST BOUGHT THE eGLOBAL deal!

  • Better value than… The 1+1 what at. And not even Chinese

  • never receive cashback from cash reward after using discount code.
Click & collect deal, targeted $20 off deal etc…

    • I have had no problems multiple times with the Target 20% off ebay deals in the past.

    • It took mine about 20 hours to update. You may want to recheck?

  • Phenomenal price for a top of the line phone! Hoping for a G4 or Z3+ deal though.

  • Bought one. Best phone at this price range for sure.

  • Would this or any of the other grey import G Flex 2s come with quadbeat earphones?

  • Reckon this will get delivered before Father's Day?

  • I'm too lazy to do the research, someone tell me if/why the G4 is worth the $200 or so extra? Oh and I don't care about the screen resolution.

    • +1

If you don't care about a camera then go the Flex. I did :)

    • Display res, 3gb ram, camera, Qi wireless charging. That's about it really.

  • Great deal, can't really get much better bang for buck from a branded phone.
Slightly worried about the curved screen, might grow to love it though.

  • +1

    Shipped :)

    • That was rather quick… =)

I only got an email saying it was processed..

    • And arrived today! That's totally unexpected!

      • Nice!

How are you finding it ?

  • Still cant decide..

    G Flex 2 or G4.

I am still using my Nexus 5 Red. really like this phone and Logitech +drive car mount.

    • Wend tor the G Flex 2 after 3 days of dilemma and research. Phew!!

      • whyyyyyyyyy

        • +3

Around 200 less, Unique design and self healing back (for showing off lol), Comparable camera, Still getting updates, Comparable battery life, same processor.

  • Anyone going to get a screen protector or keep it nude?

    • +1

Even though it has gorilla glass, i have a habit of adding a tempered glass screen protector for every new phone I buy to add an extra layer of protection just in case. It also keeps it scratch free if I choose to upgrade/resell in future.

  • Got email that it was shipped today. Do you guys have any recommendations for the case?
Found this tempered glass -> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/9H-Premium-Real-Tempered-Glass-Pr…

    Possible cases
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/S-Line-Soft-TPU-Silicone-Back-Cas…
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Genuine-RINGKE-FUSION-Rubber-Bump…

    • got the cheapest tempered glass protector for my moto g and it's lasted the last 6 months. id recommend the cheapest rubbery case you can find to protect it from drops. if you get a case with an inbuilt stand, you can use it on planes etc. to watch movies with

    • Seems like the best priced tempered glass from a decent (feedback) seller..

  • Is the 2.1A Aus Plug AC Charger they supply safe to use with the phone?

The one that comes in the box is rated lower @ 1.8A..

    • Did they supply an extra charger? I thought they'd just give you an adapter.

      2.1A is safe to use.

    • +1

Did your phone seal was broken? Mine come with Kogan seal but once I peeled it there is another seal which was broken. And there is a fingerprint on the phone. After googling found out that it is a normal occurrences with Kogan. Tried turning it on and it is already set up and in Chinese as well.

      • They precheck the phones, probably to avoid doa.

        • +2

Mine arrived today with dead pixel on it. I'm going to return it to them asap. If they didn't open the phone before shipping it out, I might still accept it, but the fact they did open it shows that they are aware that they are sending a phone with dead pixel to customer.

        • +1

          @monpemon:

What's the best way to check for dead pixel? I used the Clock app that has a lot of white background. So far so good. Can't see any dead pixel with bare eyes only

But I received a silver colour phone rather than the black colour one as ordered. Not sure if I should raise an issue with Kogan
