Damn, too slow, was gonna post it. But good deal!

Anyone deciding between Leather Brown and Black? I'm afraid the brown will get dirty after 1.5 years use

    • +2

Get red mate. The red will get darker over time

      • +1

The red will turn pink with time

        • The surface underneath coloured leather is closer to Brown so that is the best wear match

    • The texture of the black is a little harder and fake looking when comparing it to the brown.

    • Ive got black. Plenty of cases that can be put on it!

  • +2

should I get one more? Got it last September for around 450$ after cashback. Price drops so quick T.T

    • How's your first one holding up if you got it in leather?

      • +1

I use a clear gel skin case to protect the leather. The leather looks still brand new

        • +13

So what is the point of the leather if you put a skin on ….

          @superforever: resale value mate

        • @abadacus:

But missed out to fully enjoy the phone.

        • +2

          @superforever:

This comment should belong in the condom deals O.o

        • +1

@abadacus: my Indian friend once told me to buy iPhones if your worried about resale values. Plenty of dumb a$$e$ willing to pay premium prices for second hand Apple junk / old tech I suppose.

        • +5

Just like a saw some people pack their TV remote completely with plastic wrap. After 10 years they found that they have never use the TV remote properly and TV have no re-sale value any more.

        • +4

@superforever: You must know my dad lol

      • My red leather still looks great after 6 months. The material is great, nothing short of puncturing it with sharp objects will damage it imo

  • Any difference with the dual sim version?

    • +16

Yep, it's got only one sim slot.

      • I also heard some 4G bands missing on dual sim.

      • And dual sim has no wireless Qi charging. On the 815 you can add a eBay Qi charging coil to the existing back or use the circle case which already has the coil in the back.

  • what the hell.. just bought another one

ediT: nvm sorry guys just bought another. So 2.

    • What for if you don't mind answer, honestly?

      • to use… what else?

      • +23

        One for each hand duh

      • +1

Cos he wanted the dual sim model :D

  • nice price, red, black, brown and metallic gold all the same price too

    • +1

      Red all the way!

  • +3

how does the warranty work though?

    • Yeah kind of wondering re: this - will this count as a grey import or Australian model? If it's the latter, then I suppose we can take it to any Australian LG Service Center for warranty if anything goes wrong?

      • +2

Grey. You have to return to Bogan in a satchel they send you.

  • Which colour for longevity?

    • Gold (in plastic), then leather black, then leather red, then leather brown.

Or if you use a clear gel case like one of the above posters said, colour shouldn't matter. But defeats the purpose of the "leather-feel".

    • +2

Don't forget, you can change the back on this, so you can easily get a replacement today and use whatever is appropriate.

Suggest the back with a front flap (to protect the screen) and build in Qi charging coil.

  • +3

I got this phone from an large Ebay seller when it first came out. I've had to send it back twice. First was dead on arrival, second died when it got upgraded to Android Marshmallow. 6 week repair time from LG. Great phone at great price but grey stock warranty sucks.

    • If this was grey stock, do you mean the overseas LG repaired your phone?

      • +1

Yeah, I had to send back to the seller and he sent it back to LG

    • +1

The one I got last month had a manufactured date of Feb 16 - so perhaps the hardware issues have been rectified.

      • they have, mine had a serial number which was known to have a hardware issue.

        • Is there somewhere you can lookup the serial number for problem handsets?

        • Some sites say that G4 early product (produced before October 2015) may suffer this issue, it will be any G4 with serial number 505, 506, 507, 508, and 509.

    • +1

Same here. My LG G4 screen couldn't turn on after marshmallow upgrade.

I fixed it by flashing lollipop rom.

  • does g4 have the ultra power save mode like Samsung ?

    • No

    • There are plenty of softwares on the Play store for that…

      • the only ones that work require Root and Xposed framework. and even then they don't work that well (ex- LG G4 owner here, went back to Sony for their actually useful stamina mode)

        • Fair enough.

  • +2

Wow that is super cheap… LG phones don't seem to hold their value, it hasn't even been 12 months since this phone was made available.

    • +5

Why would you be upset if you get good tech at a low price? Would you rather get it at 800 AUD for a perceived "hold value" ?

  • +1
    • Black is all gone, and there was one red left after I got mine :-) Edit - no red either .

  • Would this be a downgrade from an S6 or just a decent alternative ?

    • +2

Upgrade or downgrade depending on your preferences. If you want MicroHD and removable battery and bigger display, upgrade. If you want a premium chasis and better hardware (CPU), downgrade.

    • Decent alt. S6 just got that brilliant amoled screen imo. G4 offers more possibilities like removable battery and sd card slot. G4 has great battery compared to s6 from what I heard

      • +1

Neat, thanks for the opinions guys.

Yeah the screen size and micro sd are things I like but cant justify the S7 Edge price..

      • Actually G4 battery life is quite average.

  • Oz stock? easy to root?

    • +1

Doubt AUS stock, since it coming in from Hong Kong.

    • +1

It is from Hong Kong which it is import but I had experience with a fault phone, they replace it after confirm that the old one is faulty.

      • Yeah with a repaired one.

        • +1

I am getting a different phone as a replacement and it is brand new ship from Hong Kong where the return goes to VIC, do you have actual experience with your statement?

        • @LoveBargain15: yeah with a LG funnily enough, glad you're getting a new one.
          See cminez's comment too below.

      • +1

        thought so, thanks guys.

Might give this a miss, short battery life is a let down

    • +4

Root possible on lollipop. Slim chance of root on mm unless lg provides bootlocker unlock. Get nexus if u r into root, we are approaching a time when jailbreaking ios is easier than getting root on Android lol

      • Looking at XDA there are plenty of rom options with root on MM. Is the model Kogan is selling locked down further than most?

        • +1

The ones from kogan are probably Taiwanese stock which lg doesn't officially provide bootloader unlock. Only European version can be unlocked. I got mine from qd long ago and they are twn coded

        • @volturee: So if I wouldn't be able to put TWRP and CyanogenMod on this model? This would be a deal breaker for me. Thanks

        • @daveaus: nope. Best u can get is stock lg lollipop ROM with root

        • @volturee: Thanks! I'll hold off for now.

        • @volturee: Is there any way to confirm from the Kogan specs that it will be the Taiwanese version? I bought a G4 from Shopping Square in the last deal which is yet to be sent, and I'll be very unhappy if I can't get root access.

        • @OZB Al: I don't know how to tell what version the phones are but I'm quite certain that unless u purchased from retailers in Europe, it won't be unlockable

        • @volturee:

          Isn't the Taiwanese version a different model number - H815-T ?

        • +1

@volturee: Looks like you're right, it's not the model of the phone that matters, it's the country code. So if we don't get phones with European country codes we won't be able to unlock the boot loader. Root looks like it may still be possible, but no Cyanogenmod.

I sent Kogan and Shopping Square queries as to what country codes their phones are.

        • @klownz: that's the hong Kong version with support for teltra lte band.

        • @OZB Al:

The version I received from Kogan was country-code TWN, so Taiwan.

        • +2

Doubt it will help, but I signed this:

I just signed the petition, "LG Electronics: Unlock bootloader on all G4 devices."
I think this is important. Will you sign it too?
          Here's the link:

          @OZB Al:

          Hi,

I got my LG G4 from Kogan recently (the previous deal using the ebay tech coupon). The one I got was a TWN variant (so bootloader is locked, no custom roms etc).

It shipped with marshmellow (6.0) already installed.

Honestly, the stock LG rom isn't that bad. I haven't even bothered to install a different launcher yet. I do miss root access a little (mainly so I can install an adblocker) but not the end of the world.

Not sure what people are talking about regarding battery life- mine lasts a day and a half on a full charge.

        • @OZB Al: received the phone from shopping square yesterday, it is TWN as well.

  • +1

Does this have all the Aussie LTE Bands?

  • I know someone has gotten this phone and is receiving it today!
Does Kogan have some sort of price match guarantee? He would be burning right now seeing the price drop after waiting 2-3 weeks for the phone to come from Kogan
reckon he can get a refund of the difference?

  • +1

I bought this phone only 2 weeks ago for $440 from Kogan during the recent ebay 20% promotion. This phone has been pretty good so far, no complaints whatsoever.
Edit: I can also confirm that the phone I purchased does not suffer from the "bootloop" issues. The phone is running 6.0 and I have not noticed any issues with the Marshmallow upgrade.

    • Same boat here. Just arrived today too. Don't think there's anything we can do about price difference?

      • Same same, arrived with 6.0 loaded.

Android security patch level is still 01-01-2016 though, is this the same for yours? Google has already released multiple patches since then.
