For anyone reading and thinking maybe bad shop. Have only ever had good experiences with them. 10/10 will buy with them again

    • same. +

    • I've only used them, many moons ago, on eBay.

At this price, I'll give them a go.

These look very similar to the "Tool Free" enclosures available on ebay. I purchased this on ebay a while back and its okay. The picture shows a USB2 standard mini-B socket, but came with a USB3 micro-B socket.

    • May I ask is that ebay one good quality?

      • The difference is this one says what the chipset it and that it is allegedly UASP compatible.

It doesnt say anything on the ebay site.

      • Its okay in the sense that it works. However, it doesn't ever write anywhere near full speed. I expected 100 MBps write speed and I only get 40 MBps with a SSD inside the enclosure.

I'd honestly spend a little more and get something better. I dont know whats better, but I'll definitely look for a better one now.

  • I got one, same as it for $7.00 on ebay au last year with 2 days delivered

    • Link please, if possible. Thanks!!

Wonder how long until we see a decent one with USB-C? I'm seeing them but over 2.5x the price. I'd do 1.5 but not 2.5x

    Gotta be soon.

    • I'm in the same boat here. microUSB 3.0 is terrible, and it's only gotten worse since USB-C was finalized.

  • is there such a thing as this, but also has an MSATA connection? kind of like 2 in 1

  • Hi. Newbie question here if anyone can help please - Can I use this to 'clone' a SSD?
I previously installed a SSD in a notebook then installed the OS & other programs from bare format. I have bought a bigger SSD & want to replace the original but don't want to have to have to install the OS & other programs all over again.

    • assuming you don't have bitlocker or anything else like that active on the original SSD, you can do a proportional disk to disk clone - I would reccomend using Acronis in a pre-boot environment to do it

  • Ta OP— bought a few for all of the reg HDD's that get replaced by SSD's. I repurpose them!

    ;)

  • thanks grabbed one for my old SSDs, coupon is still working.

  • Mine arrived today, nifty little thing. Down side is it constant failing on me… I threw my old Crucial SSD in it and tried transferring files into it, when I use USB 3.0 port, the drive would plummet into 0kb/s from 130+ mb/s in matters of seconds, and then get back up again; the process keeps repeating until it gets a "semaphore error" or just corrupt the drive altogether. But when I use USB 2.0 port then the transferring is at a stable 35MB/s without any error or fluctuation in speed. Obviously the chipset is not capable of stable USB 3.0 write speed, or maybe mine just defective…

    • Mine arrived today as well. Took two weeks exactly so not as bad as some people made out - had me worried for a bit but at less than $10, it was worth the gamble.

I didn't have a spare SSD to test it out with but I did try it with an old 5400 RPM HDD via a USB 3.0 connection. It was a consistent 28 MB/sec transfer with no errors. I suggest trying it with a HDD if you've got one lying around.
