Waterford "London" Desktop Bar. >50% off. $9,995 (Was $20,995). David Jones in-Store Only

6480

This BARGAIN was tucked away near the lifts on Level 4 at David Jones, Market Street, Sydney.

A bit of digging on the interwebs suggests this might be the cheapest price in the world at the moment. In the UK, they sell for around GBP10,500 and Stateside for around USD11,000. And this is genuine Aussie stock, so you don't have to fap about with mains power and/or plug conversions (mains power needed for the illuminated crystal side panels).

General product information here: http://www.waterford.com/london-desktop-bar

The Waterford "London" desktop includes:

  • 4 x leather coasters (a nice upgrade from the cardboard ones borrowed from the local RSL)
  • 1 x 33cm square metal drink tray with leather insert (doubles as a lapdesk for your notebook)
  • 1 x London Square Decanter (will easy hold a bottle of Aldi whisky)
  • 1 x London Round Decanter (and this for your Jack Daniels)
  • 2 x London Tumblers/DOFs (perfect for bourbon and Coke)
  • 2 x London Hi-Balls (Milo and milk has never looked classier!)

EDIT - Six (6) units in stock at 1.20pm 20Mar16
EDIT - Three (3) units in stock at 5.45pm 24Mar16

EDIT - Additional photos here http://pursuitist.com/waterford-london-desktop-bar-illuminat…

EDIT - further discount hacks:

HT @sp00ker "Stack with 10% off DJs gift cards via entertainment book. You'll need 2 subscriptions though, since each subscription can only buy 5k worth of cards."

Thanks for the notice OP, but this morning I couldn't afford the bus ticket to go in and pick it up so I guess I'll have to pass until I've saved up enough for the bus. If only they had free delivery this wouldn't be a problem.

    • +12

That is a tough news story mate. Yeah, I think the lack of free delivery killed it for a lot of people. Tempted to neg it out of existence myself.

    • You can order it over the phone.

      • +1

        Mightn't have enough credit?

  • I am going to "borrow" one from the hotel and gumtree it.

  • +3

I'm surprised that they let a humble OzBargainer near the lifts on Level 4 at David Jones, Market Street, Sydney, without so much as a store security escort..

    • +2

ROFL. It's also the level with cards and giftwrap. Found a six pack of gift tags for $1.20 in the bargain bin. Last one there (read: insufficient quantity for a deal).

  • +2

    Shaken, not stirred.

  • +8

Thanks op! Got 5. Don't forget paywave <$100 so i did 500 transactions this morning and saved an extra 5%

    • or wave once and just enter the pin

      • +2

        No discount for that

        • Buerocracy at its finest

    • +6

Stack with 10% off DJs gift cards via entertainment book … You'll need 2 subscriptions though, since each subscription can only buy 5k worth of cards.

      • DAMMIT! I knew I forgot something. facepalm.

      • +1

Don't forget to get 10% off DJ gift cards using AGL rewards for those without entertainment book.

        • Nice. Added to post description.

    • Just out of curiousity (with the <$100 2% and 5% rebate schemes) do they still pay $2 or $5 if you do a contactless payment ABOVE the $100 maximum? (ie tap w/ PIN)

    • 500 transactions. i sure your credit card will block your account straight away.

  • +1

My dad has something similar in his house. I'll show him the link

  • +32

Damn paid full price for one of these not even a week ago :-/

  • +2

The DFO in South Wharf has a bedroom suite with a similar discountl including mirror, dressing table, etc. Wondered how much bling one person actually needed and kept walking. Worthwhile posting though, 'cause somebody might be interested.

  • $0 the Waterford "London" Desktop Bar… just had to Photoshop the 50% sign out don't want people thinking I'm cheap

  • +2

Much better price than before but the whole glass in a box thing is a passing trend. I'd rather just try my chances on the next kerbside collection day. Probably pick up a couple.

  • +2

Can you imagine how you'd feel if you broke one of the glasses?

    • +40

      "Shattered"?

      • -2

        …& then sharted!!

        • The shame.

    • Within 2 years of purchase they will replace it for free. After two years well you just gotta wait for a good deal like this!

  • +2

Damn I don't have a David Jones near me. If anyone is willing to sell theirs I will pay $11k for it!

    :P

    • +1

Shipping will be the dealbreaker, I fear.

  • +1

DAMN, Just Paid full price 2 weeks ago. Bloody David Jones.

    • You don't have a credit card with purchase price protection? Rookie error mate ;-)

      • +6

        Paid Cash.

        • +2

          Baller move.

      • +4

If you have the original receipt, just buy a 2nd and return it using the 1st receipt.

        • you can return the one you brought then buy the exact same one again at the discounted price

people used to do this alot when i worked there

        • @kkkkkal:

          I was assuming they wouldn't accept a return for a used item…

        • @sp00ker:

Not many know DJ's return policy, You can return anything and get a full refund as long as you have the receipt, regardless of how used it is. If it's in tatters it probably wont get accepted but if you cause enough of a ruckus you can get it returned. If you don't have the receipt and they sell the item in store, they give you store credit.

It's ok. Just smile that Arsenal won last night because it's not happening very often these days!

      • +2

My username has nothing to do with a football team. I'm Called Arsenal because i like shooting people who talk S**t ;-)

        • +2

          Oh..
In that case I will step aside so I don't get shot.

        • +1

I'm Kidding. Unless your a Chelsea Supporter.

        • @arsenal1:

Do you shoot people who can't spell?

        • +3

          @SillyMonkey

Why would i shoot myself? What a Silly Monkey.

        • +2

          Chat shit get banged!

  • What the hell does this thing actually do?

    • +12

It allows an operator to travel purposely and selectively forwards or backwards in time.

Oh, hang on, that is for my time machine. If you want to borrow it, you can use it to travel back to the top of this post and have a look at the product links provided.

    • +2

It let's people know that you are wealthy and that you have the funds available to show it.

Often the owners of such items are in fact not wealthy due to buying items to demonstrate their wealth and good taste of course ;)

      • +1

FWIW, I'd never seen one until today. Surprisingly NOT over-the-top ostentatious, but actually rather classy and - dare I suggest - a little understated (if you flick the side panel lighting off). It's the sort of item you'd probably use/keep for decades. On a dollar/day basis, I've probably wasted far more money on TVs, gaming consoles etc which are now in landfill somewhere.

  • +3

I think if you're willing to drop 10 grand on this, then you might not check OzBargain all too frequently.

    • +3

      Wrong.

Smart OzBargainer visits https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/90290 and then comes back, with his/her $213K of savings, to buy 21 of these (one for self and 20 as gifts).

      • +1

Great discount. I grabbed 5 so I got one FREE! What a deal!

        • +1

If there's even a MOMENT of buyer's remorse, just remember how much you're saving!

  • +15

just bought a car for 12k a nice toyota yaris. Wish i knew about this earlier i could have spent the money on 4 glasses and a cabinet to hold them. And those coasters, cant live without them.

    • +1

On the upside, if you know someone who buys one of these bars then you can "borrow" one of the glasses and see if it fits in the Yaris cupholders. Hang on, those things HAVE cupholders, right?

      • +2

Yaris cup holders are the best! Pull out sections for driver and passenger.

      • +10

Toyotas are basically 90% cupholders or repurposed cupholders.

        • ROTFLMAO!!!!

  • +1

The designer Jo Sampson refers to her work as pimping. She ads lights……

    • …and price price stickers.

  • +2

This will go nicely in my underground cave.

  • +4

I dont get it, did everyone here make the poor life choice to have children?

  • +6

The only people who buy these things have many leather bound books and an apartment that smells of rich mahogany.

  • +1

Wonder if it makes the booze taste better.

    • +1

      Makes EVERYTHING* taste better.

(*)Except my great granny's Christmas puddings. Those things were nasty no matter how much grog she added to them. Shudder.

  • +1

What a deal. For that price, I better get two.

    • +1

Don't muck about. At this price, people will be camping out the front overnight - Apple Store style. The power of FOMO is, indeed, mighty.

  • +1

Is this the marble, leather, wood grain or gold variant?

    • +2

More leather than Uma Thurman's wardrobe.

      • Was hoping for the solid gold,

        No deal

        • I'll keep my eyes open. No one should have to do without a 23kt gold desktop bar.

  • +2

Surprised that nobody asked “Will Officeworks pricebeat this” question.

    • +1

I think you just did (indirectly).

Has anyone tried doing a price beat with Hardy Brothers? https://www.hardybrothers.com.au/products/5JDB554 You'll probably score a free cup of coffee and a biscuit at your sales appointment, too.

  • +1

Is this available at DJs Melbourne - Bourke St?

    • +6

Telephone 03 9643 2222 and ask for the Waterford/Wedgwood section. If you can't afford the call, see if DJs will accept a reverse charges connection.

      • +1

Unfortunately reverse charges were declined, so I sent an email instead

  • Wow, I'm buying two at that price. Thanks OP

  • +2

I wonder if the Packers, Murdochs,Hancocks hang out here at Ozbargain, this would be just a drop in the ocean to them.

    • One for each bedroom, why not?

  • +3

Usually I'd be all over this but four coasters is just too many. I don't even know four people.

  • Can anyone confirm if stocks are still available?

    • You know you can call them? 02 9266 5544.

Aside: I'm not sure that - even with all the interest of OzBargain - six units will be sold any time soon. In fact, a prudent OzBargainer might even wait another few months for the half-yearly sale to see what happens to them then.

  • +1

Score, gonna fit out my studio with a flash Waterford bar

  • +3

This bar.. Or a Train I could also afford?

  • +1

being a republican i'll wait for the sydney model. Maybe liz, chuck or wills would like one each for xmas. Hang on is this the famous davey jones locker?

  • +1

This will look awesome in my metal garden shed. Thanks OP!

  • -2

    Thanks op.. i got 7.

  • +2

Just went past by, sold out. Saw a guy holding an ING card pay waving for them.

    • +1

The transaction was split into 100 lots of $100 each obviously, true OzBargainers would maximise the ING cashback. A grand total of $199.90 cashback!
Imagine the number of eneloops you can buy with that sort of cash.

    • +3

It's not pay wave it'd be a pay tsunami

  • I am surprised it lasted that long, damn it… looks like I missed out

    • Says who? I'd be VERY surprised if they were sold out - even at 50% off.

  • +2

Does David Jones include your name and address on the invoice for TRS?

    • +2

Probably not the cash register receipt, but you can normally ask the customer service desk for it

It would be a bitch to carry in hand luggage though (I haven't seen how big it actually it). I doubt anyone would check this thing in…

      • There is NO WAY you'd be hand-carrying this thing through. Each of the glasses, decanters etc is separately boxed (for obvious reasons) inside the master shipping box. The box is HUGE and would weigh well in excess of 10kg.
