    lol nice nice

tpg users can thank optus for this!
after they released some semi good plans

and we can thank all those people who left optus for tpg for getting optus to react!

finally some good internet deals coming out!

    COMPETITION! got to love it

    • Surely Telstra must be under some pressure to update their plans as well.

      • They have, $49.95 for 25GB on Cable Extreme Liberty(30Mb/Sec) or ADSL 2+ Extreme Liberty

  • +1

I want this to make top breaking News so other ISP's can see and offer similar deal

  • lol i reckon

  • What exchanges are these available in?

    • Enter your number and check!

      • Just tried Melbourne CBD and inner city areas.
        Not available at most exchanges:
Carlton, Fitzroy, Collingwood, Brunswick, North Melbourne,Parkville,Richmond, Port Melbourne, St. Kilda, Northern Part of CBD (Exhbition), Hawthorn

Wondering if its available anywhere in Victoria?

  • Not available at mine. So it's not that great.

  • is it a april fool?

  • Yay, available at mine

  • yeah not availible at my exchange either, not that i need any more bandwidth!

  • Noooo… not available for mine either…

  • just call TPG
    confirmed it's a real.
it's a stand alone plan, does not have to bundle anything.
    contract lenght = 12 or 18 months

shame it's not available in my area…..

  • I'm still stuck behind a pair gain line damnit. Can't even get ADSL2+.

  • So why is it that I put in my number, and it shows my exchange has ADSL2+ but not for this 24/7 plan?

Isn't this just an ADSL2+ service with unlimited data allowance?

    • probably they're only offering this at quite exchanges with low demand.

    • +1

They probably are only releasing it to exchanges that don't have high traffic and low backhaul costs. I'm wondering how many exchanges this has actually been released to.

  • It seems to be new users only?

  • I just noticed they also have reduced the price of their naked VOIP offering. The $90 'downgrade' fee means I have to wait until the end of the month when my contract expires before I can take advantage of this and change plans, droping my monthly charge by $10.

  • This ENDS IN 14mins!!

"TPG is pleased to announce that our new Unlimited ADSL2+ plan for $75 per month will be available for new customers by midday, 1 April."

    • doesnt that mean it starts at midday?

    • wtf

      • -1

Look at the date my friend.

  • Apparently I can get it which is great. Great value hence a positive from me. Personally though, I only use 12GB a month so I'll be sticking with my current base plan on TPG.

  • Awesome plan.

Their 130GB $50 plan is more then enough for me. Its interesteing to see how competitive TPG are.

IMO other ISP's will need to watch out, they are offering next to nothing just for an Australian based Call Centre. I can see TPG/AAPT stealing a lot of customers.

    • What TPG's call centre is in Australia?

      • I've had to call them a few times (sales for initial purchase, customer service to correct incorrect details, tech support a few times, some senior person). Every time, the people I've spoken to have the familiar Indo-American accent.

        • Philippines is where their call centre is based, I believe.

      • Sorry I meant ISP's like Internode and iinet etc only have their Australian Call Centre to show for their high prices, not a whole lot else.

    • Each to their own. Personally, as an Internode user I'm glad these other ISPs are offering cheap deals. Firstly it ensures that Internode remains relatively competitive on price, and as a case in point Internode recently upgraded the majority of residential/SOHO plans (increased quotas AND decreased prices). It also means that leechers won't see Internode as such an attractive ISP and degrade the network.

I value other things such as 99.99% uptime and full-speed mirrored services more than just the straight out quota offered by other ISPs, but also realise that not everyone shares this view.

  • Interesting, just yesterday I upgraded my 100GB (no on-peak/off-peak, shaped to 1Mbps) plan to 150GB (shaped to 4Mbps), but that plan seems to have been removed in favour of this cheaper Unlimited plan. Sucks if you want the bigger plan but don't live in the Unlimited-ready area.

I have feeling TPG is releasing unlimited 24/7 plan in "sydney exchanges only" as the first step.
they could use it as a measuring stick to measure the take up rate.

This way, the chance for the unlimited plan to backfire is small.
Plus, they can progressively (read slowly) enabling other exchanges to which they have the least members.

    A very smart business move.

not fair for many of us in Vic and other states but I would rather see TPG offering the unlimited plan as they are capable, not because they are blindly jumping onto the bandwagon.

I would like to see TPG enabling exchanges in Melbourne next few weeks :)

    • it could also be a potentially bad move, i know during peak times my network slows where i cant even get the 4Mbps that i connect at. that could get considerably worse if people have things downloading 24/7…

  • +2

I fail to see how a network already failing to cope under current usage id going to handle under these plans

  • +1

Hopefully this raises better plans all round from other ISPs.

  • most of their exchanges are telstra based so it is based on a decent network( i know im on a telstra line)

    • No it doesn't. They operate on mostly their own network. DSLAM's through to backbone.

      • But their network is inferior…

  • Is this actually unlimited or do you get shaped after certain usage?

  • +1

If you are a current TPG customer they have now update your plan via the webpage which I did, awesome value TPG is now setting the standard for value. Will see how the speeds hold out during the new plan though.

    DogGunn is right.
if TPG is going through the rebill way to offer 24/7 unlimited plan, Telstra fee would bankrupt it.
However, if it uses its own DSLAM, the cost is a lot lower and it's ok.
combine this with limited release of 24/7 exchanges, it's possible to sustain the unlimited plans.

    1. not eveyone need unlimited. We all say we "want" unlimited but most would need less than 100gb a month.
Many people are screaming they want more speed but once the connection hits about 8M, they would feel satisfied and does not need more.

    2. only a small numbmer of users wants unlimited plan would actually signup. I know quite a few TPG own's users would stay on the $50 for 130Gb plan.
Of those who joined unlimited, many donnot hellbend on trying to downloading the whole internet into their PC. They just want to not having to worry about download limit. (kinda like unlimited quota on web-based email addresses. Not many people try to fill it up).

my friend is on unlimited with AAPT and told me he ran out of things to download.

He was excited and was ready active in finding things to download. He stayed at home, constantly looking for things to download. First month, he downloaded 800gb, second month 500gb, third month 300gb. Now, less than 200gb on average. he keep going strong until 1 day, he get bored and it dawn on him that downloading too many things did not make him happy. Rather, he has to buy new Hard drive and he could not keep track of what he downloaded. There's only so much things he can look at or hear in a day. He suffered from content overload.

I reckon that once AAPT, TPG and another ISP release unlimited plan, other ISPs would have to follow suit. and since everyone is offering generous quota, things will even out.

    • You do make some good points there

    • totally agree…
I like your comment on "…suffered content overload." lol ^^

    • Well put superkieu!

    • +1

      good point.
however, in the future, the television will be changing to be digital television, where most will be broadcast online. this will take more of download capacity.
and as this become common having unlimited download, you might see that video store become extinct. People who would like to watch the new release will download or watch the video streaming. thats is the purpose of unlimited download

      • +4

Unlimited broadband is essential. Pretty soon Australia will have more video services like Zune on XBL where users can rent/buy movies to hard drives instead of purchasing Blu-Ray discs. It's about choice. Some people want to populate a collection of DVDs/Blu-Rays. I prefer digital content. Each 1080p movie on Zune is around 10gb. 10gb per movie and suddenly 130GB on the $50 TPG plan starts to look really small.

Good on TPG to pave the way to the future. Good on Sydney too. Now, the rest of Australia waits.

You hear that Australian ISPs? It's the voice of the people saying we want what our neighbouring countries have been enjoying for almost a decade. We want Unlimited Bandwidth at High-Speeds. It's a cry for freedom. The freedom of not having to check bandwidth usage and for the freedom to always choose High Definition content without worrying about limits.

  • so how much are people going to spend on hard drives now???

  • I read a lot of horor stories about TPG online about frequent drop outs and all…. any TPG users here with any feedback?

    • Its fine for a majority of people, but people with problems always make a lot of noise.
As with everything, there will always be issues. Line problems, telstra problems, exchange problems.

For me though, its been perfectly fine.

      • Thanks fma007. I'm looking for a provider. Will probably connect a Telstra line nd then get connected to TPG. Thanks :o)

    • I've been with TPG for 4 years now and they have been really good. When I 1st joined up (3-4 years ago)they dropped out once to twice for a few hours but overall very good. I dont play online game so cant comment on line quality (ping, slowed… but did the ping test on speedtest and it wasnt the best at times) but for massive downloading and surfing its excellent.

However, my best friend who is also on the same plan hates TPG. He brought modem after modem to try and have a constant connection to the net but it just wont stay on. not sure if its coz of TPG or his complex set up of modem and routers?? His gonna try iinet or internode

      anyways excellent to me :)

    • I've been with TPG for a few years and have been happy. I think a few years ago, the net would occasionally go slow but the last couple of years have been rock solid.

I've never had to contact support with problems and my last question was answered within 5 minutes outside of business hours.

      • Thanks GafferFish.. these positive feedback is great indeed. I looked on the net in forums and review sites and it's just filled with negative comments… poor TPG getting hammered out there.

It's great to get first hand feedback from here. Thanks all :o)

    • i had no problems with them ever.

  • around 9am this morning they switched me over after i changed plans last night, and I am still maintaining the 1.6mb/s downloads im used to. I was abit nervous reading some ppl's speeds were halved or reduced significantly after switching plans..

all good so far.. TPG is awesome

  • let's we do comparison for new customer that doesn't have modem at all.

AAPT unlimited $99.95 included line rental (29.95) + unlimited broadband and $50 music download credit and free wifi modem (i guess around $50-100)
    local call 19 cent/call

TPG $75 unlimited download + telstra budget 20.95 = 95.95, local call 30 cent/ call. save you $4 / month, and as aapt got 24 months contract, it saves you $96. you might argue, using pennytel, save your bill, but you need to buy another reuter / voip modem to make your normal phone to be able online all the time, which is cost u more. and if u don't use pennytel, you still need buy a new modem (read my first statement), which is around $50 (generic brand).

You might argue, TPG still saves you around $1.92 / month (($96-$50)/24 ). But AAPT give you $50 monthly credit to purchase legitimate music.

On this case, i have to say AAPT is better value for money than this TPG unlimited products. Except TPG can reduce their price below $70/month.

    • +1

      good comparison!

  • Not available in my area :(
Guess I will have to be content with 200GB a month.

  • Starting to feel like I will have to move from tweed Heads to get decent internet in this country!
Great deal, shame like the last 10 they are not available at my exchange..

    • +1

      Move to Singapore.

For 64 singapore dollars (basically 49 Aussie) a month you get a phone line with unlimited local calls to landlines and mobiles, unlimited broadband at 15mbps and you get the Basic Tier of Channels from Cable TV (About 20 channels).

And if your mobile is with the same provider, 10% off your mobile bill. 50% off on the higher end plans. And 10% off an additional Cable TV channels you subscribe to. 15 free movies a month… Plus you get to change your mobile handet every 12 months.

I'm waiting for some company to make this a possible in Australia. Maybe not for 49. But for 79 or even 99 Australian Dollars, I want Unlimited calls, Foxtel Channels (mainly sport), and Unlimited ADSL2+ broadband and a discount on my mobile phone bill.

Optus is closest but their broadband deal sucks and no Cable TV. I don't get that though. Optus is owned by Singtel which is the provider or the deal I described above.

      • however in Singapore chewing gum, oral sex, failing to flush the toilet, jaywalking, posession of pr0n is all illegal, so it all depends on your priorities…

        • +1

Whoa whoa whoa… jaywalking is just as illegal here in Australia. $57 dollars. Don't worry that you don't know that. When my friend went to pay the fine, even the person at the counter was like, 'What's jaywalking?'. When he explained, she actually laughed. But yeah, that's illegal here too.

Oral sex isn't illegal in Singapore. Failing to flush the toilet isn't either… It's just frowned upon as it would be anywhere. Chewing gum yes, that's illegal. Possession of porn is only illegal if you're under-aged I think. I don't know…

But I get your arguments. I was just trying to compare services between ISPs. And even though I said it, I wasn't suggesting that he LITERALLY move to Singapore - just said that to make a point I guess. Anyway.

  • I can only see the avg speed of this isp lower.

  • so right now im with optus i get 1.5 mb per second as actual download speed whether that is torrents or downloading direct from any site would i be able to achieve that speed thru these aapt or tpg unlimited plans?

  • Bit more than I want to spend per month, but an awesome deal for unlimited!
