    750GB?

    Not even 1TB??

    • +1

1 TB? Not even 2 TB? Some people may only require a 750g Hdd.

      • +8

Yeah, but for a couple of bucks more they could get a terabyte. They will need it one day.

        • Sigh.

Don't worry. Let them figure it out.

        • Unless you're going to require that extra 250gb straight away, it's better to save that money IMHO. Price per GB drops every year so by the time you need that extra 250gb you might be able to get 500gb for the same money.

Didn't see much criticism on the recent 500gb for $49 deal though….

    Officeworks has 2tb for $77…

    • You should post it..

    • +4

The cheapest 2TB Officeworks has is $109 and it's four times the size, six times the weight and requires a power pack + point.

    • Nah really? As if.

its 1tb portable for that price

  • If this is as reliable as the two Toshiba laptops I've had, I can't wait to cry when all my photos are gone. :P

    • I've been using 2 Toshiba EHDDs for about 2 years now on an almost-daily basis, and so far so good!

    • If this is as reliable as the two Toshiba laptops I've had, I can't wait to cry when all my photos are gone. :P

The Toshiba laptop I use has a Hitachi (HGST) drive in it.

Maybe Toshiba does't trust their own hard drives (or has stopped making them) or simply sources from other suppliers when there isn't enough, or gets a better deal, or…

Anyway, hard drives are far from 'permanent' storage. They can & do fail. Some seemingly never fail though. Some fail too early. You can never be sure.

      As always…back-up.

Had a look a couple years ago Toshiba was 2nd to Apple at having the fewest warranty claims so are the 2nd most reliable brand for laptops. I just now checked the stats for 2015 and the ranking is still the same.

      1. Apple
      2. Toshiba
      3. ASUS

So if you need a new laptop you should go one for one of those if reliability is your thing.

      @cheepwun:
Western digital owns HGST and as part of the regulatory deal to buy HGST they agreed that Toshiba can sell rebranded HGST drives. Toshiba drives are made by HGST so it makes no difference if they put a HGST model in their computer.

Just to add to your comment - Toshiba acquired 3.5inch manufacturing from HGST. Toshiba was already producing its own 2.5inch drives before the acquisition.

    • I bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop about 5 years ago and never had a problem with it and still going strong.

My next laptop will probably be a Toshiba too.
