Nevermind, OP has changed the site to a slightly more reasonable price. Still, the 32GB is 1999 RMB (~$426 AUD) direct from Xiaomi China. Those of you with relatives in China should probably make use of them and save a few bucks. Once stock levels stabilise and the initial rush dies off.

    • +2

generally resellers sell the phones for 30-40 bucks up from the RRP, reputable places are vickmall and banggood among others. but you should never pay 800 for this phone, thats just retarded

      • +1

haha. $800 for a Xiaomi? umm.. no..

    • Sweet, shouldn't be too much more across the ditch in Taipei, I'll get wifey to grab one when she heads back there in the next few weeks.

      • TWD12,600

      • I don't think it's launched in Taiwan yet. Doesn't appear on the Taiwanese website. Could be because I'm not using a proxy though. Going by the previous Xiaomi releases, stock will be pretty thin for the first month or two. Xiaomi are copying Apple in more ways than just the phone design and UI.

I used the code BM216 and got an $11.99 discount, bringing it to $787.96, so no idea how you got $150 off…

    • sorry there was a few deals I was going with, I should have researched more thoroughly. the best at the moment is at Banggood for $582.87

  • This phone looks good but I want the G5. I'll wait till G5 is this price or less. I know might be a while.

    • +1

The G5 is much sexier but. Removable battery, SD card slot, and packing all the extra cutting edge goodies.

I already have my heart set on the G5 — after owning a G2 for so long I'm sick of cellphones with no SD card expansion.

      • Yeah it is a bit odd the lack of card expansion. Other than that the phone looks like a great deal. Very high screen body ratio too which is important to me.

        • Improves read speed and battery life. I can't remember where the comparison was but having a phone that doesn't use efs 2.0 off internal storage is not as fast. I would rather 128gb internal than plug in micro sd.

    • Yea prob by the time Xiaomi MI6 is out.

    found a cheaper site, $514.83, http://www.oppomart.com/xiaomi/mi5.html

shipping for me came to $41.84 with 5-7 day shipping

    = $556.67

  • Anyone know what is the audio chipset on this phone? Can't seem to find it any where

  • Quite a few 4G bands missing of support, pity.

    • +2

      Network

      4G
      FDD-LTE
      TDD-LTE bands 1 / 3 / 7
      bands 38 / 39 / 40 / 41

      3G
      TD-SCDMA
      WCDMA
      CDMA 2000 bands 34 / 39

      2G

      looks good to me

no china droid does band 28, hardly a reason not to buy the phone

        • @Makoto:

It's reason enough for me. :)

        • -1

@Ronnnie: well then why are you here Ronnie? why would you ever bother clicking on any china droid handset deal if you are not interested in buying ANY of them?

        • +1

Damnit, some early reports said that the phone had B28 700mhz

        • I'm not a tech-nerd. So, does this mean the phone can't use 4G at all or will it just be slower because it doesn't support all 4G bands?

        • @ksj 007:

In layman's terms it means 4G reception may be worse than that of a phone with a wider band range.

I.e. on my current China droid 4G is great in the office and at home, but terrible if on a moving train.

        • OK, thanks!
Is it still worth it for the cost?
          (i'm thinking yes)

        • @h0mbre:

Yeah I weren't sure if it had band 28 myself either.

I would consider a sub $200 phone without band 28. Band 28 is a big part of the Telstra network now though.

    • +1

Correct me if i'm wrong but with some Xiaomi phone you can unlock bans, i quote this, but i think it works for others…

      http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-note-pro/development/how-…

      • FYI - I have the Xiaomi Redmi 2 (8GB/1GB ROM/Dual SIM) and when loaded with the English ROM, not all bands were accessible.
        http://en.miui.com/thread-80116-1-1.html

You have to muck with it to make it work
        http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=187415&highl…

I am concerned that the Mi5 will be the same, so I am going to hold off until someone uploads a video on Youtube showing 2 SIM cards in roaming accessing LTE.

Does anyone know if the Mi5 will support dual LTE radios? i.e. Can still use Telstra SIM as 2nd service post Dec 2015 shutoff?

  • +1

Surely you will find a lot of price variation, it all depends upon when do these websites actually start sending the item.

There are a couple of trusted suppliers on Aliexpress who start shipping the item from today itself but obviously their price is slightly higher.

  • It's like Samsung and Apple had a baby

  • +1

so they've already got like 18 million phones pre-ordered

they know what they're doing. My Redmi Note 2 is the best phone ive ever had!

    • +1

My 9 year old loves his redmi note 2

  • +1

Any deals on the mi5 pro?

    • Yep looking for same. To be honest the frequency support is an issue if you are traveling to the USA in particular.

  • +1

This is a great phone. An equivalent Samsung will be about double the price. If you are in China, you can buy it for $A100 less. Still a great deal. Remember buying from China, the phone does not include Google Play, but most people here are comfortable/able to install Play Store anyway. Buying from reseller like Oppomart will come with Play Store and multi language installed.

    • Not coming with Play Store is not a big of a problem, most people would flash it with Global stable ROM anyway which is very easy to do, that ROM comes with Play Store.

      • You can install it through the Xiaomi store.

  • I would get the 125gb Ceramic back Pro version but it's too much money to spend on a Phone imported from overseas……… might wait 6 months or so…

  • European Union are reserving 700mhz for mobile but will probably be a few years before we see more 700mhz phones

  • Avoid xiaomi phones if you wish to install another rom like cyanogen mod. They have locked the boot loader in the newest phones/updates, and in order to unlock so you can install another rom, you need to send them a message e.g. bullshit such as: you need to unlock because phone is bricked (in chinese). It takes a week to a month to get the SMS, which confirms they will allow you to unlock, and even after getting approval a lot of people can't get past 50% during unlock process.

So to summarize, in PC speak, xiaomi have stopped users from installing a different variant of the OS on hardware you have purchased with cold hard cash. Imagine you had a laptop that came with UBUNTU, and you hated it and wanted to install another version of linux, or even windows and the manufacturer said sorry you need to contact us for approval and even after approval it may not work.

    • does apple allow you to install custom firmware and roms on their phones?

      • +1

        You got a good point.

Personally I don't touch any apple products. I don't touch windows phone either. The main point is, with apple you know what you are getting. With Xiaomi a big majority of people buying these phones who don't live in china, buy it and plan to install something more western friendly as its android. Even without installing a non-xiaomi rom, I doubt Xiaomi has released a global (english friendly) rom for any of their NEW phones.

Bottom line Xiaomi priority is their chinese market, they don't care about people purchasing from other countries. I provided the above info, so those Australian planning on buying it and not using the xiaomi rom which is currently tailored for china, AVOID. I am providing info so that the Australians who want to install another non-xiaomi rom, don't waste their cold hard cash supporting xiaomi, and these chinese resellers, only to find out later, xiaomi new policy.

      • why do you think tech savvy people who like to tinker and care about this stuff buy android

    • This also stands for new Samsungs. Also XIAOMI have given users ability to install windows 10 on Mi4 officially.

  • +1

With the current market exchange rate (as at 1515hrs AEDT today), it's slightly cheaper here, which includes free expedited global shipping - for the 3GB/32GB storage in white.

    • Has anyone ordered from GizTop before ? They support PayPal. The Mi5 Pro is $550 USD shipped to Australia.

  • +2

No card slot and only 1080p, what a letdown.

    • +1

Because you can totally appreciate UHD/4K on a screen that fits in your hand…

      • Doesn't have to be 4k.

    • +2

I have a Quad HD phone, I'll be honest 1080p is fine, it's really hard to tell the difference. Full HD will save you battery.

      • I can tell the difference. I don't want to go backwards.

Just play the Nature / City / Food 1440p videos.

  • There so little talk of the Mi4s. If pricing of that us significantly lower that Mi5 then I think it's better value (sans 820).

    • Well at $309 USD for 3GB/64GB Mi4s it's a good US$160 less than the Mi5 3GB/64GB - AND it takes an SD card!

  • So if I did pre order, when would they actually ship?

  • +1

Isn't this cheaper at Vickmall? It is on sale (i.e. not a pre-order) and going by today's exchange rate, it comes to ~540 AUD
    http://www.vickmall.com/xiaomi-mi5-3gb-32gb-5-15-inch-androi…

  • Anyone actually got their order from Oppomart?
