Holy moly…. If this was a convertible, I would go return my Dell 13 7000 right now…

    • +16

if only it wasn't a Lenovo

    • +5

I'm sure Lenovo was plotting in the background so you didn't get your 10% TRS refund.

  • -1

I could only get it down to $988?

    • +8

      Please read the post…

      • I think he might have added the 192 GB SSD?

  • I wouldn't be able to get the Education discount along with this would I?

    • I got student edu email as well, so if anybody able to get further student discount please inform

    • I've tried and the coupon code is not accepted in the Lenovo education store. $888 + 8% CB still an absolute ripper though!

  • +2

192Gb SSD? Where did they find such a thing?

    • +2

Somewhere after the 128 and before the 256.

In reality though, they might have a hidden setup partition that uses some of the space and are also showing the usable rather than full space?

      • Fair call, but that's quite a large set of hidden partitions. The most I have seen is like 20GB.

        • +2

They also have 200GB SSD's and then adding on recovery and stuff could make it like that.

        • Yeah, agree, it still seems like a lot. That's why I said maybe they are showing usable space too. Who knows..

      • +3

SSD also usually have reserved space where the controller automatically swap them after wear and tear.

  • +1

is it possible to upgrade the ram later?

8% cashback! Great for people who do the purchasing for the office. :)

        Strange.

Very good price but damn that's an ugly laptop

    • +4

Can't have everything. Absolute insanity for the specs

    • Massive spaces above and under the screen and the stupid looking touchpad and buttons
Nice gray colour and quite thin for what it is

    • +1

I agree that it doesn't look pretty, but not to the point that I would call it ugly… More like a generic looking laptop that doesn't standout anywhere.

  • Wonder if I should, wait for the 400 series gpu's coming in April f

  • +1

If only my laptop isn't a mere few months old…

  • +1

Actually don't mind Windows 10 Pro so $988 is still a good price.

    • +1

Downgrade to Home & get Pro for $35 emailed on eBay like I did

      • Can you post a link please?

  • What's the battery life like?

    • Depends if you use the graphics card, but reviews say around 5 hours on wifi, so expect around 1.5hrs for gaming, and lag.

  • Thanks mate, ordered one as my Vaio Pro 13 has just crapped out in the last fortnight and I am quickly realising that I can't live without a laptop.

On a side note, does Cashrewards send an email in 90 days to remind me when the payment "clears"?

    • +2

it should. you get an email that says your rewards are available.

but cashrewards are unreliable and youll probably have to send them an email after 3 months to chase it up.

      • Thanks, threw a reminder in my Google calendar.

    • My Vaio 13 just broke last week too and we got one of these

  • Is 8GB of notebook RAM really worth $250? I buy desktop RAM for about $60!

    • +4

No, but it's the same as the inflated prices you pay for all RAM "upgrades" on phones etc. Luckily, for the vast majority of users 8gb will be enough

      • +3

Unlike a phone you can upgrade the memory in it

According to this hardware manual it has 2 DIMMs
        http://mans.io/files/viewer/143556/69#navigate_bar

So you can easily slap another 8gb in there to bump it up to 16gb

        • wouldn't it void warranty if you took the covers off to install it?

        • +3

          @Blitzfx:

Usually there's a user removable ram cover that means you don't have to open the whole thing up. If so, then no.

          Same with hard drives.

But the more recent trend is to create ultrabooks etc, which are designed to be smaller, with the parts tending to be soldered together. You can't upgrade those.

          Nutshell: check before buying.

        • Can you just buy another 8gb? I always thought it was best to buy RAM in pairs at the same time, but not sure why…

        • It is most likely 2 4 gigabyte sticks. Most companies usually pakage products this way!

        • +4

          @aussieprepper:
You can choose 1 dimm or 2 dimm while building. same price

        • +1

@nuchalis: yes you can. Usually best to buy in pairs so you have the same Mhz ram but if you just look up the serial on the ram chip when you open the laptop you should be able to find the speed of it and buy a 2nd one of the same speed.

        • @Blitzfx: No, RAM and HDD upgrades don't void any warranties.

        • @aussieprepper:
          it has 1 x 8gb and has 1 x free slot.

        • @Junk Collection: yea that is good i have taken apart a lot of used lenovo and dell laptops and they seem to always use 2 sticks of ram even if its only 4 gigabytes total. maybe for the purpose of dual channel.

    Pretty comprehensive review:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwSEysjlOuw

    • Build in battery is bit of a bummer.. how would u replace it when it dies?

      • +1

If it's anything like the ThinkPad Yoga, you simply unscrew the back and pop a new one in.

      • The review says that you can't replace the battery @8:18

        • If you're Joe Blow on the street, you probably can't. But if you're handy with a screwdriver, you probably could.
Lenovo even tells you how on page 77.
Unfortunately it's not as straightforward as the Thinkpad Yoga!

  • +1

How good is it for gaming?

    • +12

      Stay far away. Far.

      • +9

        Running off now!!

      • Any good value suggestions to keep an eye out for then?

        • +5

          @nuchalis:
A custom built desktop. Don't even bother trying to game on a laptop. Seriously you will regret spending all that money.

The cash you save getting a performance gaming desktop compared to an overpriced laptop, you can spend on a cheaper laptop for the tasks you need it for.

        • @ozbargainer88: Thanks for the reply! Yes, I have a desktop I built myself :)

To be honest I wanted the laptop for rough-cut video editing while travelling, I've never had a non-work laptop (ie non-junk!) and I've heard folk say just get a gaming laptop to get enough power. But maybe this Lenovo might do it, I don't know! Thoughts?

        • +4

@nuchalis: No. Get a quad core i7 (which means it will likely be 15.6"). Alienware, Inspiron 7559, XPS 15, Metabox are some options.

        • @ozbargainer88: I won't listen to you. NEEBS!

      • +1

I've been looking for a laptop to replace my aging one. Mostly play games on it.

Which mobile graphics is good value?

what sites in particular do you guys go to compare?

    • It plays games from the past few years on the lowest (or near-lowest) settings quite well (source: personal experience). Won't play brand new AAA games such as Fallout 4. Older games run well.

Interestingly, given that the chips used both support DX12 there is the potential that the AMD and intel graphics could be combined to boost fps in some games.

  • Any desktop deals?

  • Does anyone know if I got an unused Win 10 Pro key, can I use it to upgrade the Home edition in this instance? TIA.

  • +3

As Ronaldo posted this is not a great deal as I first thought, I guess only being upvoted because it's being posted by a popular member but who works for a dodgy business CR.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/235251

    • +1

Ronaldo didn't post a laptop deal, he posted a deal for a headset and monitor.
…and hid a laptop deal in the wall of text.

    • +1

Why was my neg removed? Is Ozbargain in bed with CR? It said my comment received to many negs, Yet has not received 1.

    • Never heard of IJK store before maybe because I'm in VIC
But this store does charge min 2% for credit card payments and shipping on top so not a deal for anyone not near to this store

    • +9

What do you mean not a great deal! It IS a great deal! The price includes shipping, and on top of that has cashrewards at 8% (that's a solid $71 right there).
It's being upvoted because it is a GREAT DEAL. For OzB's, it all comes down to one thing: price. If it's a good price, we upvote. If it's a bad price we downvote. Pretty simple isn't it?
I get the feeling you have a bone to stash with TA and CR: "posted by a popular member but who works for a dodgy business CR". You insulted both TA and CR in the same sentence, if that's not personal then I don't know what is.
If you're a good community member then you won't go making personal attacks against other users.
What is your basis for calling CR a "dodgy business"? I've only seen honest dealings by them, and helpful, good deals from TA. You have no right to be attacking them. Don't ruin your reputation like this.
Go and apologise to TA for attacking him and CR for no reason and for defaming the great company that is CR. It's the least you could do.
This is the sort of pathetic behaviour I'm seeing more often on OzB, people resorting to pathetic attacks and personal hatred to make a point. We're grown ups, let's act like grown ups.

    Don't forget the sleeve for $1 extra…
    ThinkPad 14” Fitted Reversible Sleeve

    $1.00 Part No. 4X40E48910

    • How did you get $1 ?

      I am getting $22

      • +1

It is $1 as an "add-on" to the purchase of the Lenovo ThinkPad E460 at time of purchase.

Ordered before, separately or later $22.

        • +3

I have the sleeve from an old 14" Edge E420 from what must be about 5 years ago now, used it a couple of times and then bought a proper bag as it's really not useful.

But… It is only $1 so it may protect the laptop until you get something better.

  • +12

I have to agree with the concerns of some others… seems like a conflict of interest TA is posting deals that are $2 cheaper using his "code" and also gets to plug cashrewards, a company he now works for.

    • +1

I checked out the "other" deal at IJK store and they are bundling a bag which is actually a $2 sleeve
This deal directly from Lenovo site is better if you intend to purchase this laptop and avoid 2% credit card surcharge and shipping

    • How do people find about stuff like that (him working for them)? There's always news like this in the OZB community, but being kind of a lurker I seem to miss it

    • +4

      using his "code"

If you have a problem with TA finder cheaper deals for us then don't use them.simple.

    • Please note that when TA placed the Cashrewards link at the bottom of the post, our system automatically marked this deal as "Referrer", which the referral posting limit would be imposed — similar to store rep posting limits. There are plenty merchants posting deals on OzBargain — some of them are worthless and are automatically throttled/banned when their deals don't receive votes from our users. However many other merchants are adding value to the community here. TA representing Cashrewards is no different.

      • +5

I beg to differ sorry, other merchants don't work for companies that are affiliated with the supplier and receive a commission from each sale like in this situation.

This is cherry picking at it's finest.

        • -2

build a bridge and get over it lmaooo

        • +11

          I beg to differ sorry,

You are free to block any future posts from TA, unless you're actually sticking around just to complain.

other merchants don't work for companies that are affiliated with the supplier and receive a commission from each sale like in this situation.

Other merchants don't give as good a deal.

          $888 minus 8% cashback is $816.

Can you point out a deal that's cheaper than that?

Who benefits? We do. That's what matters to me. If it's a good deal, it gets a vote. This site is about bargains, and this is a bargain.

Also, you are unhappy because other merchants "don't work for companies that are affiliated with the supplier, and receive a commission from each sale".
Does that mean all rep posts should be banned? Their company is clearly affiliated with the supplier (they're a customer!), and the company clearly earns profit from each sale.

        • +5

Why do you care if he gets a commission? Isn't the price of the deal the most important thing?

      • +53

I promised myself I'd hold off responding to some of the comments in this thread, but I just can't do it with this one. What you're suggesting is that the cheapest price in Australia for this laptop is no deal and deserves a negative vote because I posted it? I'm blown away by your thought process and the fact you've been around here for 6 years concerns me even more. I'd like an explanation of how you believe there's a conflict of interest in my deals. Is it the fact I work at CR, which I've explained in detail via the forums? Is it the fact I go out of my way to approach stores to find you the best & cheapest deals around? Or is it just pure jealousy and hatred towards me? Which ever one it is, just remember one thing - you scour these pages for deals, that's what OzBargain is for, and unless you can find a product that I post for cheaper, please refrain from making ridiculously uneducated comments and try for once to maybe post a bargain yourself. Enjoy your day.

        • +5

Relax, no need for the ad hominems.
Your deal stands for itself. No need to highlight others' insecurity & self loathing.
I wish you well at Cash Rewards and hopefully your energy and initiative is recognised by management there, so that your career advances.
