Ozito 355mm Electric Wired Chainsaw - $79 @ Bunnings - IN STORE ONLY - ECS-355 Green/Red

60

I was in the market for an electric chainsaw - one with a power cord, not battery operated.

A quick look at the Bunnings and Masters web sites didn't show any on special.

However when I arrived at Bunnings in Taylors Beach NSW I found the red/green version of the Ozito ECS-355 was on special for $79.

The red/green version has been replaced by a grey/red version that bears the same model number. The usual selling price for that one is $109.
The red/green version is NOT on the Bunnings web site, but the grey/red is:

I am assured by the helpful sales lady at Bunnings that other than the colour, the two chainsaws are identical.

Note this chainsaw DOES NOT come with chainsaw oil, which is essential, so add another $9.98 to the price for 1 litre of that oil if you do not already have some.

As a clearance item, the red/green version may or may not be in stock at your local Bunnings. I won't be surprised if it drops further in price in the next few weeks if stocks remain. If you are interested you may want to call your local Bunnings to check stock availability before making the trip…

Having used the chainsaw, it does a pretty decent job although I did experience problems with the chain coming loose - that isn't a good thing…

Are these any good? I need to get through about 12 barrels of femurs without getting the chain too badly clogged.

As long as you have a power source handy and you are not cutting anything too thick, they do fine.

Femurs no problem - skulls no problem too…

Just be careful of the chain detaching, or you might decapitate yourself in the process…

For DIY use on small branches they are more than adequate. I cut 15cm diameter branches with ease.

I was pleasantly surprised just how powerful this thing was. It is 1800 watts - there are some 2200 watt models too. For basic home DIY I can assure you the 1800 watt is more than adequate….

    • Deleted as mine is a bigger saw so not applicable.

  • I've got one of the older models I think, Ozito isn't exactly great but for the price it's worth it for back yard stuff.

I've cut down a lot of bushes and two gum trees with it and still works fine. Just have to go slow and in small portions with some of the bigger trees/trunks.

Also, you can adjust the blade the chain sit on with a screw driver if the chain is a bit loose, which is likely to happen after a bit of use.

  • Which colour is better?

The red as it hides the bloodstains

Any old oil you have lying around will do. 20W50, Canola, whatever. Just don't use it dry.

    • Was just going to comment that you can pinch a bit of oil from that oil container in the corner of the garage …..You don't need to spend big on the branded chain oil.

      • Chainsaw oil (in fact all chain oils) is "sticky" so it doesn't fling off as easily.

Using motor oil will increase the chain wear slightly but more importantly it creates a skunk line of oil on your work, as well as flinging it straight up in the air, and directly back towards you.

I just paid $59 in the Northland, Vic store for the red / grey one of these.
There were at leas half a dozen in stock.

    • You did well there - it's still $109 on their web site.

The red/grey is the newer model though I am assured by Bunnings that other than colour, they are identical.

The green/red is now also on the web site at $79

      • Thanks OP I would not have looked if it wasn't for your post!

        • No worries. I was surprised how easily this thing cut through decent sized trees.

Just watch the tension on the chain - particularly when its new you need to adjust it after every 10 minutes of use as it stretches with heat and initial use.

It isn't fun when it comes off and you could get seriously hurt if you were unlucky.

Overall I was very impressed with the chainsaw for DIY use…
