I'm sure it will be full of "millionaire" franchisees (up to eyeballs in debt), who "work their own hours" (24 of them a day), and are "their own boss" (hate themselves).

Over represented by cleaning and courier franchise companies. You shouldn't have to pay $10 to attend what is essentially a recruitment event.

Start a business. Follow someone else's rules. Let them take all the profit.

Only good for Permanent Resident scammers.

  • I agree with all the comments made so far, thanks for posting OP, someone will get something out of it.

Franchise = not all franchises are bad. However, when it goes South, nobody in the world would be able to help you, not even your lawyers, as you had signed the franchise agreement that bound you. what we need is a Franchise watchdog and tighter rules on franchises ( eg. Option to Opt Out For False promises ), and what shocked me was ( i was a franchise and got BURNT badly ! ), you are looked after so well for Phone contract which cost you as little as $15/month, but when it comes to franchise that may cost you mortgage and marriage, you are not covered at all by any government bodies ???!!! BUYERS REALLY BEWARE for any Promises PLEASE !!!

  • My parents made enough money to retire from a franchise, but later franchisees in the same company didn't do very well.
The parents of another friend also did very well with a different one.
And another acquaintance had a terrible time.
I think the rules to finding success amount to:
    - you need a good product that stands out in the market place.
    - you need to be an early franchisee, not picking over the scraps when the market is saturated.
    - you need a franchisor that sees this as a long term growth proposition, not sell the franchises and run.
    - you need an agreement that allows both the franchisee and franchisor to prosper, not deliver too much of the benefits to only one party. Otherwise, the less successful party will be resentful of the other's success.
