Just tempted to buy but Is it useful in urban area where 24X7 power is available?

Looks like a whipper snipper strapped to an alternator housed in a cage…

    • +3

It's 4 stroke, so it's at least a lawnmower engine..

      • My whipper snipper is a 4-stroke. It's the 'new' thing because more efficient, quieter and less pollution.

        • Too hard to keep another jerry can for 2 stroke mixes.

        • @mini2: That too.

        • Interesting…

RE: Fuel; I keep regular and mix as I use it! LIVING LIFE ON THE EDGE!!

          @ryang:

Just grab a 400ml Coke bottle, tip fuel in and tip 10ml of 2 stroke oil in…presto, here's your approx 50:1 mix. Gets smokey but she'll be right.

        • @mini2: Or, you know, don't. Meanwhile, less annoying for neighbours, better for your ears (no need for muffs) and yes, not as smoky.

        • +1

          @xsacha:
It's noisy as anyway regardless of the mixture - it's the Stihl commercial stuff so either go deaf in 60 seconds or ear muffs time.

      • At lease for the generator you don't worry too much about the Not Functional Kill Switch.

    • That description sounds like a generator!

  • this will work well for my doomsday prep bunker….

    • +6

Don't be one of the guys who runs it indoors and then dies from the fumes =P

      • +2

perfect fit for my harakiri plan!

    • +2

It'll work well for finding my doomsday prep bunker, which incidentally happens to be at the exact same location as your doomsday bunker.

just make sure you add fuel stabiliser to your petrol. unused petrol goes stale after a month or two. the petrol sitting in the carby will leave gummy deposits that block up narrow passages and one day you will go to start it but it won't start.

i've picked up a lots of mowers put out on the kerbside, cleaned the carby and then they spring to life like new. i've got way too many 2-stroke and 4-stroke mowers under the house :(

  • No where near as good as those briefcase type generators - but yes it's cheap. But it will be noisy….

Was also mentioned here but not in title ofc

  • It was actually posted before, but not as the main item

    Reviews aren't the best BTW

These would be great for a company like Woolworths if you had to try and keep a struggling Hardware subsidiary alive on life support 24/7…

  • At 1100W this generator is CLEARLY woefully underpowered to handle the task of any blender worth it's salt.

I suggest buying 2 generators as clearly you are going to be missing out on a lot of nutrition that requires 2000W of bashing power to unlock it's natural goodness.

Could be useful in an emergency.
e.g. run a water-pump to defend your house from a bushfire.
    Says it will run a small 300W pump or 400W fridge/freeezer .

A super cheap piece of chinese crap would be the last thing I'd be wanting to rely on in an emergency.

      • You are looking at it wrong. Its not for the emergency services, but an alternative to having nothing. Or as a backup to your main generator.
The emergency part means its hardly ever used, so little wear. Just a quick service and test at the start of each bushfire season.

For somebody living near bush on the fringe of the city, who has not bothered to get a generator before, this plus a small retic pump could be worthwhile.

        • Giving you a false sense of security.
When you know you've got nothing you won't hesitate to leave.

When you're got a crappy pump and a crappy genny, you'll likely stick around longer.
What happens when they crap out after you've stayed defending your house for half an hour?

You're alternate universe self left 30 minutes ago and is safe.

        • Also the issue with this crap from china isn't durability, as in it will be fine if it's not used very much (as you suggest).

The issue is with the crappy materials they are made of make them likely to not work reliably regardless of amount of use.

They cut corners on things like cable insulation, elec connectors etc etc which will fail early even if you never use it due to environmental conditions (UV, temperature and humidity cycling etc).

Also they cut corners at design stage too (think putting things that heat up next to things things that don't like heat)

        • @damoo:
getting a bit OT, but the important thing about preparing to defend against a bushfire is not so much the equipment as the PLAN.

The plan caters for equipment failure.
As a quick summary - if it fails early, before the house and surrounds are wet down (and mains is out), you may choose to leave.

When the actual fire front is passing, you will not be out there with a hose, you will be hiding from the smoke and heat in a prepared shelter.
Only after it has passed do you come out, start the gen, and look for spot-fires to extinguish.

i.e. The pump is to defend your home, not your life, and used mostly AFTER the front has passed.

Hope that helps correct some misunderstandings. You make it sound like defending ones home means battling the fire-front, which is wrong.
          Ignorance can be fatal.

Agreed, these are not high-reliability, so not suitable for high-risk situations.
