  • It could've been bought for around 1.3k if dick Smith wasn't such a joke of a company…..

    • +1

It could have been bought cheaper, if the company that went into bankruptcy selling some things cheaply didn't go into bankruptcy because they were selling some things cheaply.

      FTFY?

price from AU $1,229.00 to AU $1,699.00 , you call this is a bargain? i called they are cheater

  • +1

Pretty poor value when compared to the previous selling price.

  • 13.3" but 3.6 kgs?

    • +1

Seems like your eyes skipped first part of that line ….

      Packaged Weight - 3.6kg

      Product Weight - 1450 gms

    • +1

That is the packaged weight, the actual laptop is 1.54 kg

  • Does it has a backlit keyboard ?

  • I think this is a good deal. Comparing it by remembering fondly Dick Smith's going out of business price is a bad reason to downvote in my opinion.

that being said, the DELL Inspiron 13 for $1299 is a strong contender foot a full HD 13 touchscreen. Has a 500 GB sshd combo type drive vs Asus' 256 SSD, and more plastic, but otherwise quite similar.

Personally I like the ASUS all metal build but my UX501 does have some scratches on it that wouldn't appear on a plastic body.

    • +1

Same specs on the DELL except there is no dedicated graphics on the DELL

    • Dick had better prices BEFORE they went down the drain. Its not about fondly remembering the fire sale..

  • Can anyone comment on the hinge of this one? I read somewhere that the UB model (as opposed to UA) has an improved hinge design, just looking for validation of that.

Also would you pick the Dell XPS 13 or this? Currently looking for a new laptop/ultra book and these two have been on my radar for a while.

    • The ASUS has a dedicated graphics card and better processor than the XPS (in the same price range)

    • I was deciding between the two as well, but I ended up with the XPS13 refurbished for 1.3k. The hinge problem was something that kept me away from the Asus. It's a problem that seems to take a couple or more months to manifest and I decided for peace of mind to just go with the XPS than wait to find out whether or not it's gonna happen.

Definitely, the XPS13 is a solid buy. It's a laptop that just works. If you go with it, you can be at peace of mind there's no build quality issues whatsoever and it's gonna last you a long time. The XPS series has just been proven time and time again that it's a completely safe bet if the cost is no issue.

Just for those who are still worried about the hinge issue. MobileTechReview has done a hell of a review.

Well… Considering the price for the previous model with Dickie was only around $1200.. I'd argue this is no bargain..

Wow this laptop would be pretty perfect in a lot of use cases. Ticks all the right boxes.

Wonder what the battery life is like. That battery size is microscopic.

  • is there one with 512gb ssd?

    • Asus doesn't sell all versions of its laptops in Australia. So although there are Asus UX303UB laptops with 512GB SSDs, I don't see any in this market.

You can order it from overseas, e.g. bhphotovideo.com, but then you pay import duties because it's over $1000.

I do see this one: UX305UA for $1899
      http://www.digitalstar.com.au/asus-zenbook-ux305ua-i7-6500u-…

The last year's models start with UX303, so UX305 is the new model. UA is the budget model, missing touchscreen and backlit keyboard. UB comes with those features.

So the UX305UA is similar to the post above, but it's lighter, smaller and should be a bit cheaper, but in this case it has the better SSD and better screen.
