  • How is this compared to oppo Find 7?

    • +1

likely better, xiaomi software is gorgeous, hardware is decent too

      • Depends what you rate..
The Find7 still has one of the best screens going around.
The CPU/GPU combination is ageing but still right up there
        3Gb RAM is on par
Software is lagging though, unless you have a custom ROM installed.
But then, that's one of the Find7's massive advantages, It's bootloader is unlockable and custom ROM's are actively maintained.

  • +4

If only this was the "Pro" (Snapdragon 650) version…

    • -3

Did you see better price for redmi note 3 anywhere else?

      • +7

No, but that's besides my point.

        • +2

im waiting for the pro version as well

        • +1

is there a big difference between this and the pro?

        • +8

@Syaoran74: I've seen one comparison review and the Snapdragon definitely outperforms the MediaTek. However it will be another 6 months before you can get the Pro version at this price.

I just got my non-Pro 3GB version last week and it runs well. I can't possibly imagine needing more power, it's very snappy.

Important to note that there is currently no official Global ROM for Redmi Note 3, so you will need to Root this device. This could remain the case for the foreseeable future as the Redmi Note 3 is not a global model.

If you don't mind the plastic back, Redmi Note 2 is probably more flexible (has Global ROM) and better value, however Redmi Note 3 is definitely the better looking phone.

        • +1

@Syaoran74: Redmi note 3 Pro performs much faster and also has a 16mp camera instead of 13

        • +4

@cruiserdog9: pixel doesn't not always tell the true story of photo quality.

        • @anglais88: The note 2 has an SD card slot, as well (but no fingerprint reader).

        • +1

@tgame: Exactly. More pixels = bigger image.

        • -2

@anglais88: what do you mean by no Global ROM for Redmi note 3? I bought one from geekbuying for my dad and had no issues in starting it up to then select English as the language of choice.

MIUI Global Stable Version V7.1.3.0.KHDMICK for Redmi Note 3G Full Changelog

        • +1

@Ultraman: That's for "Redmi Note 3G", not "Redmi Note 3". Difference devices.

        • @tgame:

It's proven the 16mp camera module in the Pro version is superior to the 13mp camera in the regular one.

          https://youtu.be/88fLa2DBxSk?t=9m41s

        • @chewkl: dude, i don't understand what they were saying.

        • @tgame: dude, neither do I. But a picture is worth a thousand words isn't it? :D

        • @Ultraman: the link you provided is for redmi note 3g version not redmi note 3.

Also global rom usually has less Chinese blow-ware (useless for oversea users) and a more stock-like android experience

        • @Ultraman: I think you are right, it's a different device.

    • +1

I think the Pro might be my next phone. Got an iphone 6 that I can't stand so hopefully there isn't any changeover cost.

  • I'd pay an extra 5 bucks for insured shipping

  • +1

A $65 delivery fee makes this a No!

    • where did you see $65 shippinh?

      • Postal code gives me 2 figures $58 and $65 repectively Both are deal breakers

    • +2

There is an extra ~$34 for "remote" areas which is basically anywhere in Australia expect major cities. Massive ripoff

      • Probably because it's courier post.

Get it posted to a friend, then have them put it into an express post bag for you perhaps?

    • I think (hope) it's already AUD…

    • +4

The price in the title is AUD, not USD.

  • +12

Can be had for around $250au if you're willing to wait a bit with code KUNGHEI

    • ? it says free worldwide shipping which makes it $220

      • +2

        USD

        • +1

          thanks for the clarification!

    • Wait how long? It's coming up as $188 with the code which is like $265 on xe.

      • should ship around 20-22nd Feb, plus 1-and-a-bit weeks with the Aus expedited air shipping option (extra $2). not sure why it's coming up more for you, did you click on another colour? they're more expensive

        • Nah Grey. How many US$ for you?

    • +1

What's the difference between the US and EURO version on that website? So confusing…

And even at $187.68 USD, that's still $276.49 AUD via Paypal, so it's not $250ish AUD. I just tried it.

    • Dude you may be Mr Kind Face but your calculations suck!

      • It's still giving me $176.64 USD after code in my main browser (and logged in) but I just tried in Chrome and it gave me the ~188…no idea why. my apologies

        • Which browser? Wanna try…

  • +2

No expandable storage makes this a no for me.
    But only just!

And from memory the other negative is no 700MHz band for Telstra 4G

    • Got redmi note2 for my son ….yeah the 700mhz lack is nuisance but works fine on other 4G band.deliver was an out $20 after coupon

    • You can insert a TF card into the sim card slot. Then you can only use single sim in it. But I think it wouldn't influence most users in AU.
Because in China, you can not port your number between different provider. So many people hold two number, one for work and one for home.

    • Just checked. On this one it is not support expandable storage. But there is another version that using Snapdragon 650 Processor that support the TF card. It is very popular and out of stock anywhere. It is only about $40 more than this version. So just wait for that one. And I guess that one support he Telstra 4G.
Actually I see some guy DIY to make the TF and sim card together. So you can get a dual sim card with a TF card (up to 128G) mobile.

  • Wait for Xiaomi Mi5 peeps, being released on the 22nd Feb.

    • +1

Should definitely be a nice phone but it will be twice the price. No point waiting if you want a budget phone.

      • +1

He means wait because other xiaomi phones will reduce in price.

  • will this have bloatware or ads installed?
Can't stand when these come with all that crap installed that you can't take off without rooting.

    Does the box come sealed?
Also OP are you affiliated with the website? If so can do you have any idea if there's bloatware/adware on them?
    Thankyou

    • No, I'm no way affiliated.

    • +2

For us it's bloat ware for Chinese they are common apps they use. Nice thing with note 2 is global rom no need to root

      • +1

Agree. I don't care which shop it comes from, the first thing I did was a factory reset, then installed the global ROM from the xiaomi website.

        • Does the global rom have bloat?

like XIaomi's CHinese bloat… or watever bloat. ALso does it have GOogle Play?

        • @inose: no bloat, google play has to be installed but that is simple

        • @nathan-drake: Google play was installed already. All the other Google apps had to be installed from the play store.

  • I was looking the other day at these, I ended up going for the Asus Zenfone 2 as they were the same price at the time (~$315). The extra 1gb of ram and expandable storage won over the bigger battery of the xiaomi.

    • Seriously, why the need for so much RAM?

I've no problem whatoever with my Nexus 4's 2GB ram. Do normal people even know what ram is?

    • +3

      Zenfone 2 for $315? where?

      • qd_au has the deluxe for $320 last I checked.

      • i bought the 2.3GHz 4/64GB Zenfone 2 for $366 delivered from qd_au, took 5 days, am loving it right now. cheaper models will be mixes of 1.8 and 2/32 or even 2/16. I do recommend pushing to the $366 model.

        • Which model did u get. 551ML? Hiwz camera

        • @pyramid:

          Yep 551ml

Camera is a bit mediocre to tell you the truth. It struggles more in low light than outdoor, as do many android cameras compared to iphone.

I'm not a camera person, but the camera is better than on K3 Note or Moto G, worse than iphone 4, if i had to guess.

See also 10% off ebay 9-12 Feb, can use on Qd_au website for ripping prices.

      • http://www.geekbuying.com/item/ASUS-Zenfone-2-5-5inch-FHD-4G… with 5% off code. Not the 2.3Ghz model but I couldn't find any at the time for under $400 and I needed to get the order in ASAP as my last phone died on me, not that it's been shipped 8 days later….

  • +2

I Purchased the note 2 just last week, considering specs and what the note 2 does (Ie, Removable battery, Micro SD Storage) I made up my mind and considered the Note 2 a winner regardless if the note 2 boosts of a faster CPU + Memory + bigger battery

    • +4

I mean the way i look at it is for 100 bucks more you don't get 100 bucks more phone….

      • You sir are spot on :)

        • +2

I was looking at this same puzzle just yesterday and pound for pound, Note 2 defo.

        • +2

@Unbreakable: Yep Do it mate, I've had mine for just over a week and when I tell people the phone itself is worth $160 they are absolutely stunned :)

        • +1

          @Gomo: $160? Where?

        • @macrocephalic: +shipping?

        • @macrocephalic: It's $189 after shipping….

        • @spy: So what if it's $189 After shipping, you still paid $160 for the device? I personally ordered from Ebglobal on a thursday and it arrived at 8:30am monday morning so I'm very happy with that speed of delivery!

        • @spy: $186 assuming you don't want insurance.

        • @Gomo: sure but this is Ozbargain. If you're going to mention a price, please do so with shipping included.

  • +5

Purchased a couple of weeks ago from eglobal. They took a few days to dispatch it but the shipping was very fast, about 3 days I think.
I can only compare it with the phones I have had in the past couple of years. I am selling the sammy Note 4 and keeping the redmi note 3.
Fingerprint reader is awesome. Quick and accurate. Battery is awesome. Compared to note it lasts 2 to 3 times longer. I dont game on it so dont ask.
The sammy is full of bloatware too. They just disguise it as an OS - LOL. More than the redmi note. I would not root the redmi note 3. It just isn't that much of a problem IMO. Yes it has some Mi store stuff and battery saver and mem manager but you just stick it in a folder and ignore it.
You get the odd link to chineese stuff through Mi store but you can work around that. The phone is snappy and doesnt lag like sammy. Dual sim if you want to use a data card and cheap call sim. The use of 2 sim cards is seamless and I dont notice any difference when using it. Yes google play is on it and all google aps are working as far as i can tell.
700MHZ not there?. Would probably not notice unless doing downloads on 4g. Maybe some areas have better coverage and you can notice.
The screen is fine. The colors dont pop like oled but its clear and bright enough IMO. No dots on small text on web pages.
Camera is average. Dont buy a sub $300 phone for awesome photography. You will probably notice camera on difficult shooting tasks like low light. Otherwise its fine and behaves like samsung. Much better pics on sammy but you pay $500 more for it.
Phone call quality is excellent, better than Sony Z2 I had before the sammy.
5.5 inch is definite sweet spot for me. perfect size. Charging is fast enough with supplied charger and au adapter. Order your accessories on ebay cause you wont find them locally. I was able to turn on the phone, put sim cards in and start using it immediately. It's not like you have to do any work to get it going in Australia. Maybe we will see a global rom soon but I am not even thinking about it. The OS is fine, put nova on for a bit but went back to stock launcher cause its easier to manage. Sorry for the long story but for $275 delivered this thing is a bargain. Just consider how you use the phone and work it out from there. I was sick of managing aps and mem and battery on sammy and still charging after 12 hours, and suffering the 60% accuracy of print reader to unlock. Eglobal have been excellent and answered my emails promptly. I have not returned anything to them or had a problem, so I cant comment on that. The redmi note 2 would be fine but I wanted the finger reader. Once you have it you would never go back. I like the ram on board for music and podcasts so 32GB is good too. Dont miss SD yet.

      Nice summary, thanks.

  • +6

I am using this phone right now, bought in China when they first launched it. It is an excellent phone with this price. I have been recommending Redmi brand to all my friends in the past year. 100% positive feedback. Most of my friends say they would not purchase Apple anymore, given $300 phone can get the same user experience as $1000, what do you expect more?

    • +5

yep xiaomi is starting to win over Aussies, good to see!

      • +2

Got my son a redmi note 2 he loves it …..thinking of getting on for me too now and retire the Samsung s5.

  • I find Xiomi's different model naming really confusing. Can someone please know if this Mi 4i (https://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/xiaomi-mi-4i-dual-s…) is good one?

    Thanks for your help.

    • The Redmi phones are the cheaper models. The Mi x phones are the more expensive ones.

      • +1

The Mi4i and Mi4c are also budget models, just to confuse matters.

        • they are spin offs of the flagship mi4. they aren't as budget as redmi though

  • AnTuTu benchmark v6.0.4 score 45397 for redmi note 3

  • Any major difference from upgrading from one plus one? Does it come with a good selfy camera?
