i threw mine in the bin. didnt like it one bit. went back to using a stone and steel until i picked up https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/211826
by far the best sharpener ive ever used.I don't throw anything in the bin. I stick stuff in the kitchen drawer and use it to sit on top of and hide useful stuff I need to find.
Have the Furi Tech Edge Pro, it didn't work well for me and has been sitting in the back of the drawer for years…would've thrown it in the bin if it hadn't cost so much at the time.
Have heard mixed reports on the Global wheels. Better than nothing if you're not comfortable with stones though.
Another option is EdgePro (or knock offs). A little more fiddly to set up but learn but much better results than any of the pull through gadgets out there.
I have one of these and I find it is not very good at all…maybe I just use it wrong :)
i think the "secret" is that your knives probably have a really bad edge on them so it will take some time and effort to get the edge corrected the first time but after that its just a couple of swipes through to keep it razor sharp.
the way i first did mine was to get a permanent texta and black out the sharp part of the blade probably till about 5mm up the blade then keep swiping the course fingers till all the ink comes off of the knife edge (not all the way up tho). the texta helps you see when the blade is finally corrected and back to the correct angle. once you do this with the course fingers you can follow the instructions normally for the other 2 lots of fingers. if your knife ever needs a touch up after that its just a couple of swipes throguh and your good to go again .
hope that made enough sense, if not let me know and ill try to explain it better..
Thanks for taking the time to give your opinion champ but a better explanation of how you use your gadget wasn't the issue. Pull through sharpeners will get knives sharper than dull and are fine for most people who don't know any better. The problem with this and most others is they don't give a strong, lasting edge that can be kept with regular honing. That means going back to the gadget more often, removing more metal and wearing your knives quicker.
If the fingers work for you and you're happy with the results then there's no reason for you to change what your doing.
I got both. I hate the sound when using Furi. Goosebumps!
I found Minosharp less technical to use. Just need to roll back and forth.
Furi requires push down into the forks with certain depth and draw the knife back. Can be quite dangerous to use.
Did the sharpening course at chefs armory …..just use stones to sharpen now …..
I would love to see a nice big ~40 RPM meter diameter stone like the abattoirs had when I was a lad - set up right on that, three strokes of the stel and you could shave again with your Green River or Koh-in-or.
Also stopped using this and switched to - http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/victorinox-knives-victorinox…
Much quicker to use…Found one hanging from the back window on the bus.
Would not recommend.Great for breaking glass, apparently.
It seems the common price in Victoria Basement.
everyone with a different review on what product to be used !!
but can be certain that this product is not good for global knifes as per comments here and whirlpool.
This works well with my global knives. Used for last 5+ years. Don't have anything to compare it to though
For those looking for the 3 stage, it's slightly cheaper on the ebay store

like a pencil sharpener for water?
This is not the 3 wheel one that I was expecting. Shame.
I have a whetstone I use once or twice a year - but any suggestions for a honing tool - should it be steel, ceramic or diamond honer?
Peters of Kensington have the 20% ebay deal at the moment.I have global knives
edit: round or flat honing?
Diamond rods tend to remove metal and while they'll keep your knives sharp they're not really honing and can ruin an edge over time if you're not careful.
Global recommend ceramic, never used them but hear they do the job.
I've recently started using a leather bench strop, cheaper than most other options or easy to make if you can be bothered. So easy to use my wife even gives it a go occasionally.
From here"GLOBAL recommends periodically sharpening your knives using either a waterstone or ceramic stone. In between stone sharpening’s, it is recommended that you use the Global fine ceramic or diamond rod to keep the edges of your knives aligned. Global serrated knives do not need to be sharpened."
Got mine yesterday(express shipping).Love it!
And here I was thinking my water couldn't get any sharper..
