So i'd recommend buying Serenity also to make things complete. It's the conclusion after the events of the last Firefly episode.

Would you preferred they called it something different like Firefly "1 season" or "season 1" where people so people will be confused because they cannot find the non-existent season 2 or how about "The mini-series" so people are misinformed that it wasn't a tv show.
Or would you rather Firefly "The First Season of a TV Show That Nobody Watched While It Aired But Now For Some Reason Nerds Keep Clamouring About What A Tragedy It Was That It Was Cancelled Even Though Nobody Watched It - just Like Futurama Which Also Wasn't That Good".

Firefly "The Complete Series" - too truthy? (I realise that you haven't watched it like everyone else didn't hence it got cancelled … just to clue you in, it's one season of a TV series that got cancelled.)
Fox never showed the episodes in order, deliberately, that poses huge issue with a series that has an underlying story that makes it necessary to show it in order. How does a show get traction and gain an audience when the network delibrately confuses its audience (4.5million per ep apparently)
How well do you think shows like 'the wire' or 'breaking bad' would have gone if treated in a similar matter?
Lost is the only garbage i can think of that would make more sense if randomly selected episodes were aired!
Although to be fair that first episode is really slow compared to pretty much every other episode in the series. I watched Firefly for the first time on DVD, watching the episodes in the order they were meant to air.
During the first episode I was wondering what the big deal about the show was and was not tempted to watch the second episode. Got around to the second episode and rest of season a couple of weeks later.
I can understand why Fox chose to show a better episode first.

If you like FireFly check out Dark Matter (2015), quite a good show. Probably the closest thing I've seen to FF.

Second this recommendation, very similar feel although not quite as good.
If you can handle the much cheaper production values - even though they're of its late 70's and early 80's time - the BBC's classic "Blake's 7" is thematically very close to Firefly, with characters just as compelling. Joss Whedon was a fan, and Firefly was certainly in part inspired by it.

I've been playing through Resogun again in co-op (bought the season pass on sale the other day) as a custom ship of Serenity, ship is v shiny. Nice to see other people still care about Firefly :D

Damn, out of stock. I have it on Netflix and still would have bought the blu-rays. Easily one of the best TV series of all time.
As a massive firefly fan, I highly highly recommend a new book called "the long way to a small angry planet" by Becky Chambers. It's her first book, and was partially funded by a kickstarter that mostly firefly obsessives contributed to. As a long long time lurker of ozbargain, I finally joined because you HAVE to read it if you loved firefly. Its not the same characters or anything, but creates its own wonderful characters. More multi-species-ish too.
"Firefly" - 1 season. "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" - 11 seasons.
If I ever make it to a parallel universe, I'm denying that I come from this one.
