20% off Interior and exterior Paint

pretty disappointing for a liquidation sale…

    • +4

Masters is not in liquidation yet. This is just a normal sale from a catalogue that would have been printed weeks ago.

    • +2

Since when is Masters in liquidation ?

      • Well there may be a closing down sale soonish.

        http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/woolies-pulls…

        • +3

Woolies is getting out of the homeware business does not mean Masters is in liquidation.

        • @z28:

Still results in a closing down stock liquidation. Woolworths is closing down all Masters stores which means remaining store stock must be liquidated, it just hasn't happned yet.

does not mean Masters is in liquidation.

          losing 600 million per year… close enough…

        • +1

          @jv:

which has lost more than $600 million over the past four years.

you need to work on your maths… but its still a large sum of money

        • @SBOB:

you need to work on your maths…

My maths is fine, I just read news headlines though…

          http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3404190/Woolworths-c…

        • @hollykryten: Liquidation is only a potential outcome. If there is a buyer for the business there might be no liquidation at all.

        • +2

          @jv:

I'm pretty sure it was 600 million dollars over the past 4 years.

        • +1

Woolworths is not closing down all the Masters stores nor does the stock have to be liquidated. They are exiting from the hardware store business and are seeking to sell the business as a going concern if possible.

Are you posting this misleading information for a reason? Perhaps to spread incorrect information?

        • @jv:

Ever heard of a book generated loss to avoid paying tax. Works better if accompanied by lots of publicity.

        • @rifter:

          You've obviously never shopped there.

    • +3

I really hope they can stay in the business.

      • -5

Did you not read the media articles saying that Woolworths is pulling the plug on Masters?. They are not staying in business Woolworths has already decided to close down Masters due to heavy financial losses.

        • +8

You obviously didn't read it either

        • @adam149:

Well it happens if Woolworths isn't able to sell off Masters. But i can't see the business that's in large financial losses being bought out.

        • +3

          @hollykryten:

It seems like a good business opportunity. Clearly there are enough ppl there who shops at masters and doesn't like bunnings. Bring in more products and brands. Be more strategic with pricing, like actually be on price watch everyday and adjust yours accordingly instead of always having to price match bunnings. And hire some management who actually gives a shit. Like everything else in this country there's 0 competition so hope masters can stick around.

        • @Frozensage:
Or just sell basic DIY supplies at a comparable price to Masters. Ever tried to buy some belts for a belt sander from Masters? Or some grinding discs? It's all Bosch or some other brand name. I could never figure out why they couldn't sort this out.

      • +10

Cant believe people are rooting for them to close. Bunnings pretty much has a monopoly at the moment which is never a good thing. Competition is good. I only ever see Masters having any real specials and then Bunnings copying them at the last moment.

        • -1

They just want to buy cheap things at a closing down sale.

        • @hollykryten:

And only stuff that's worthless will be on sale. No chance of getting a 900 bux hitachi saw for $100 tell you that now.

    • +3

its a paintation sale, not a liquidation sale. they're not selling all the liquids yet…

      • That's how the Dick Smith saga started…

  • Think I'll wait for the 50% off sale.

    • Hope it's more like 75% off stock liquidation. :)

  • +1

was hoping for 80 or 90% off

  • Where is it being advertised as 20% off?

    Can't find it anywhere.

    • +1

In the latest Masters catalogue on the first page (starts Thursday 21 Jan 2016). Just arrived here today in the mailbox.

  • Shame they don't seem to carry many Decking Oil brands. From what I understand, Wattyl isn't great and i'm not familiar with the other stuff.

  • +3

Anchorage Capital will save them, surely.

  • +1

OP. The 20% off sale doesn't start until Thursday 21 January 2016 since that's when the catalogue starts. So maybe put that in the title or some where so there's no confusions as the deal hasn't started yet.

    • +1

it's was already indicated in the start date field. but will update title anyways.

      • That's good. Some people like me some how miss the start date field. :)

        • +1

That's good. Some people like me some how miss the start date field. :)

I'm not surprised seeing as you're posting misleading information about Masters being liquidated.

  • HARDWARE for 10% still works. Used it this afternoon.

    • -2

      paint isn't hardware…

    • I just tried buying a bbq and it didn't work… Anyone having any luck?

      • +1

Nope. Anyone have a valid 10% off code?

      • +1

        Didn't work for me too!

    False Advertising!!!
I went to buy the Bondall Garage & Factory Floor Protector Granite Grey 10L and they told me it was not 20% off.
I said "It says 20% off all paint doesn't it?"
    They replied "Yes it does"
I said, "is that item paint?"
They said "yes it is, but Bondall products are excluded".
It would be fair enough if they mentioned exclusions, but they don't.
I wonder if Bumrings will do a price match of 20% off all paint? that would be better because I prefer Dulux.

    • Sounding like that Masters employee is a tool.

      • I phoned the help line and they told me the same thing.

        • Bit of a case of false adverisement then since page 1 of the catalogue makes no mention of a conditions apply. It just says 20% off all paints.

You can't just advertise a deal such as 20% off all paints without any mention of any conditions is in the advertisement and then when the customer is shopping in store claim that certain paints are excluded and so have to pay full price on it.

    • -1

Hi Whitey, this is not false advertising as this is neither a paint or decking oil.

      • paint

        noun
        1.
a coloured substance which is spread over a surface and dries to leave a thin decorative or protective coating.
        "a tin of paint"

        noun
        1.
a substance composed of solid colouring matter suspended in a liquid medium and applied as a protective or decorative coating to various surfaces, or to canvas or other materials in producing a work of art.

It looks like paint, smells like paint, feels like paint, goes on like paint but according to you it isn't paint??
You can call any paint a "Protector" because that is what all paint does.

Why is this one 20% off then? https://www.masters.com.au/product/100402365/rust-oleum-epox…
        It is a similar product.

        • +1

come on dude, that's a sealant not paint.

        • @millzy:
Is it any different to the other product I linked to that does have 20% off ??
All paint is a sealant and a protector, you can word it however you like but it's still paint!!

        • I'd say you are lucky to get 20% off on the Rustoleum one and you aren't entitled to complain that the Bondall doesn't have 20% off.
I would assume to do a big discount like this buyers at Masters would do deals with the Paint brands, which Rustoleum is apart of and Bondall is not.

        • +1

          @HunterOfBargains20:
Well Masters should specify which brands are included or excluded in the sale then shouldn't they?
And I am entitled to complain that Bondall doesn't have 20% off, who made you god?

    • +1

I don't know what your local Bunnings is like, but the one we have here in the ACT has monkeys employed. We've bought 4 different exterior colours, all of which were mixed by different employees and none looked remotely close to what they were supposed to.
