  • Great deal!

How many do you reckon you've got in stock now?

    • Around 20 right now

      • Ahhh not much of a chance then :(

        But great promo nonetheless!

  • Voted up for good deal… negs its one less Nandos and I'm too far away! :-)

Man those grill grates are disgusting. There is so much gunk that it looks welded shut in parts. When was the last time that thing received a proper clean?

If something as simple as grill maintenance is neglected it does make me wonder what the rest of the preparation process and management is like. I guess we have an answer in 'closing down'.

Sorry for all those about to be out of a job, but after seeing that photo I wouldn't eat there even if the chicken was free.

Yeah that photo could not be any less appealing. Wtf

    • +2

Yet you post deals for dominos?
Have you seen the surface on which they prepare seafood and meat to put on your pizza?..
Grills get filthy fast, like your BBQ at home, but end of day its cleaned..

      • I have actually, but aside from one time I've only ever visited the same store so I can't speak for the others. Maybe your local one is dodgy like this Nando's.

Now, I can tell you that gunk like that doesn't build up in a day. I used to work part time at Mount Gravatt Nando's while I was studying and I never once saw the grills resembling anything even close to what the photo here shows.

I would go as far as to say that it hasn't received a proper clean in over a month.

Edit: Seems like even they agree with me. They took down the image. Still up on OzBargain servers though.

A grill can look like this in a day.
But what would an old chef like me know, I haven't had part time experience at Nandos Mount Gravatt.

I'm not condoning an unhygienic grill, Just stating this can happen to a grill quickly.

I'm sure they took down the picture to make you happy, I mean if I had a shop closing down and 20 chickens left to grill, I'd bring out the costic soda to get a silver finish for a photo too…

I need be neither old nor a chef to be able to see with my eyes. If anything, being younger probably allowed me to see more clearly :P

Well seeing as they are closing down it's maybe a tad too late to start teaching their staff on how to maintain the grills, but it's not too late for me to teach you something :)

          "caustic"

I think in their situation it would have been smarter to just not post the photo in the first place, but I guess ultimately it doesn't matter.

@kamoi: If only you knew what you were arguing about.
A grill can look like that within a couple of hours from cooking marinated chicken and the like.
To think it's more than that does show your age and naivety.
I hope you weren't studying to be in hospitality.

          @ozy:

You think this is arguing? I guess that says a lot about you. lol

Anyway, please tell us where you work so we can avoid ever going in there. Thanks.

        • @kamoi: Just think, if they had not posted the picture, you may have eaten there.
Enjoy your sterile world behind closed doors kamoi.
Happy bargain hunting to you :)

To answer your question, I dont work in hospitality anymore, so "we" dont have to worry now.. ;)

          Unlikely. It's 1,800 km away.

If I was old and didn't have anything better to do than go online to "argue" (your words) with youngsters and make smartass comments I'd feel pretty damn embarrassed at myself for hitting such a low point.

I guess old and wise don't always go together. I've still got time so hopefully I can avoid becoming like that. Thanks for the reminder.

these guys are closing down for a reason…

  • Pity its not nation wide

  • +1

Lol the photo got changed. I went to revision history to see the original pic :p

  • How do Nandos ever go out of business with their crazy mark-ups on all their food?

    • +5

Probably because of their crazy mark-ups on all their food.

    • Nandos has way too many franchises (especially in Sth East Melbourne), and each new one cannibalises income from others. Nando's Head Office is more than happy to take more franchise fees.

  • +2

That being said… I'm sure the heat of it all would kill the germs present on the grill, might give it a little bit of extra flavour but yes… definately well past due for a good clean!

  • +1

So dodge that they changed the picture hahaha

  • Sold out, that was quick.

  • +2

Guilty!!! I Bought two of those about 45 minutes ago @ $10 each. -_-
It was delicious and I have lunch ready for tomorrow

    • -4

Guess you might be seeing that again after looking at what it was cooked on.

      • +10

Maman, mate i've eaten cooked meat from street vendors in asian countries. My stomach can handle it..lol

  • Managed to get one just after 5. Not many people were there but I suppose it won't take much to get 20 sold. Shame they didn't have more stock for everyone. Was a good deal!

  • Thanks I managed to get one.

  • A few Nando stores have closed recently. No one likes Nandos or is this another sign that the economy is slowly tanking? Going down Glenferrie road today in Hawthorn and maybe 1/4 of the shops have closed down or a few look like they have been abandon such as the Hong kong desert story, a few Yoghurt places and another restaurant across from Pizza hut.

Their portions per price keep getting worse. Good if you're on a diet, but it still doesn't feel good in the wallet.
