Panasonic 42" S10 $999 & 46" S10 $1199 W/ Bonus Blu Ray Player - Harvey Norman

400

In Daily Telegraph Friday 5th March 2010 on page 16, there is a big Harvey Norman ad. Also says 6 months free Quick Flix DVD/Blu Ray rental (On the website it says that promo is until 28.02.10 but someone has mentioned it is still running)

The Blu ray offer is until 31.03.10

Good starting point to haggle and should be easy to price match or even better price beat.

Probably can sell that player for at least $100 and they have 500 days interest free deferred payment for purchases over $500. In the mattress ad, they advertise 60 months interest free for over $1500 but I don't know if that will apply to electrical purchases. So buy this and something else and find out.

$25 P&P fee for the Blu Ray player

        • Wasn't me. I was more than happy with your reply. Concise and accurate.

          • @comphelp: Just for the record, I didn't neg your comment either

  • the prices have been updated on the HV website:
the prices are still the same on the graphic but when you click on the tv's the prices are changed.

  • This seems like an awesome deal. That 42" 100hz full HD for $999 with bonus blu ray player is hard to resist.

  • I can't find this deal online or in their catalogue… help please?

    • Ok nevermind I searched the model number on their website and it came up!

  • Anyone know if RT Edwards will beat this by 10%?

  • Quickflix deal is still on

So if you have bought a VIErA Full HD Plasma TV between 13 February 2010 and 31 March 2010 this is the place to lodge your claim!

  • wow the 46 inch for 1200…i bought this for 1500 last october n i thought that was an excellent deal. Altho it did come with the older better bonuses. Id prob prefer this deal. Ie interest free

    • I thought about the interest free deal first as well. Although it's called interest free they charge account keeping fee of $2.95 per month. In 15 months you pay $45 fees (if fees stay the same). For $1000 TV it's 5%. It's not worth it IMO.

      Edit: I stand corrected 15 x $3.95 !!! it's too much.

      • Depends on what your current situation is. If you have a mortgage or loan of any kind chances are your interest rate is higher than the fees charged.

i.e. instead of forking out $1000 up front today, put it towards your mortgage. The interest you save will outweigh the fees you would be charged. Most mortgages are below 7% atm, however that'll probably change.

Over 60 months that's a savings of $70 per year, or $350 over the full 60 months.

Further more (to add to my nerd factor) tomorrow's money is worth less than today's due to inflation. If inflation is at 4% that means that 1000 today is worth 960 next year, then $921.6, etc. Although you'll still end up paying $1000 back to them over 60 months, what that 1000 will buy them then is much less than what it could today.

Kinda win if you have the right situation

        • Nah. First the bank charges fees for early repayments - and if you subsequently lose your job and can't make a payment on time, the bank will take your house anyway, and you'll be kicking yourself for not keeping that extra payment in a cash reserve. Second you've got deflation on TVs, not inflation. Plenty of folks got interest free deals a couple of years ago and are looking at a final payment of $3K on a TV that's worth $800 today.

So I think I'm saying that the best deal is to go ahead and pay cash, or else have your best mate buy one, and hang around their place a lot.

          • +2

@MildMax: My bank does not charge any fees for my extra repayments. I'm 50k ahead of my loan.

If I lose my job that 50k will go a long way towards my repayments. For anyone without a little redraw or cash lying around, they probably shouldn't be buying this in the first place.

Yes like most electronic equipment today the value of the product defalates, however you've missed the point of this interest free go. They do not charge interest i.e. the $1000 you owe them is going to be $1000 at the end of the loan. If you hold onto the $1000 you've placed away, that final payment will still be $1000.

I'm not in any way saying you're wrong, because for most, money is not something easily controlled. But for those who understand how to use the systems available to their advantage, paying for anything up front is not always the best option.

        • Hi,

Why do you use 60 months in your example? I thought it is only 15 months. Also do you know if there are any payments during the 15 months… or is it just one lump sum of $1000 at the end?

  • Great deal. Thanks for posting. I was reading about the interest free conditions. I can't say I fully understand them, however it looks like $25 establishment fee, $40 per year for the card, and then $3.95 per month account fee. This adds up to $25 + $40 +$40 (due in March 2011) = $105 plus the 15 x $3.95 = TOTAL $164.25.

That's equivalent to interest of 16.4% on the $999 item! Of course the payments are made much later.

  • Try to haggle 170 bucks off it then :)

  • i think you're better off just paying it in one lump sum. only do the interest free thing if you need to as theres alot more hassle and the benefits are negligible.

  • good deal, 42" under $1000, might just need to replace my old 37' :)

  • if you have existing interest free debt on the GE card, its worth it.

  • Just bought the 46 for $1280 with 5 year warranty delivered with 500 days interest free at HN Preston

    • Very good. I wonder what the lowest price would be wihtout extra warranty???

    • Any chance you could upload the receipt? Thanks

  • just tried to beat 46" price at good guys and bing lee at Blacktown NSW. Good guys could only match it and bing lee could not even match it. Their screen showed the cost price as $1240 (or $1270?).

    • They were pretty comfortable in slashing additional $50 off the original offer for the TV itself. $1149. They only had a few in stock and most likely it would be sold out by end of this week.

  • Bing Lee at Rhodes will do the 42" HD version for $775.

The full-HD 42" for $999 is a good price - having trouble beating it.

  • We got the 46" today for 1279 incl 5 year warranty. Wouldn't budge on delivery fee though so we said we'd take it ourselves since it is just around the corner.

    • Becareful, plasma needs to be transported upright.

  • can you upload recipt for the $1279 with warranty ?

  • I'll upload it later tonight when I get the scanner out (just moved house).

    • thanks but no need, just picked up a S10A for $1190 with free delivery.

Speaking to JB, they said HN extra warranty has lot of T&C hence it much cheaper cause JB could match on tv price but not warranty.

  • Got my 46" THP-46S10A from HN(WA)for $1388 with 5 year warranty and delivered (plus cleaning kit) but it looks like that HN can do it cheaper depending on where you shop.
There is a lawsuit aganist Panasonic in the USA on these TV sets as black levels will fade over time.
Check out CNET reviews and you will find out more on this issue.

    • Can you give a link for the CNET review that states this issue? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks.

    • If they have these black issues, why did you decide to go ahead and purchase? Interesting to see much of the feedback. I might stay clear of Panasonic after reading this

      • Stay clear of Samsung and their "buzzing" TV's as well ;)

I guess the only choice now is SONY- the one and only :D

      • Panasonic have dominated the plasma market for a long time.
I came across this review after my purchase but $1199 for a full HD 46" plasma is hard to resist. I have got a samsung 42" and 46" full HD lcd but the picture of a plasma is better in my opinion.

  • Just finished filling in my free bonus with Panasonic online.
Do make sure you get two copies of an original invoice with supplier as Panasonic requires an original invoice to be sent for this claim.

  • WOW.

This deal makes me almost kick myself for buying a sony 46" W for 1844 before xmas.

To me, the black level issue is a non-issue at this price. Black level is slightly ahead of good LCDs even after fading. I think it was measured as 1:5000 after 1000hrs, when sony's LCD was measured 1:2000

  • I went to HN to check if this deal was still going. I got an old skool salesman who was doing the hard sell so much that it was funny. "We only have one left and it wont last, do you want to get it now". "Don't go to any of the other places, their warranties are dodgey and the delivery guys will dump it on your front lawn and will refuse to carry it any further". I listened to his ridiculous hard sell and then headed over to JBHIFI.

I got the 46" price matched at JBHIFI and delivery thrown in for free, an extra 2 years warranty (3 years total) for another $99. All up $1298 delivered.

I got two original invoices and have already filled in the form for my free bonus :)
