CELEBRATE2015

Hi.. first post… been looking for a cheap one of these for a while… I know they might burn the house down, but im sure the kids will get a lot of fun in before that happens. Im not associated with the store so i can't vouch for the quality at all…. after sales service is sure to be sucky as well. But if you've got some loose cash and wanna see what the hypes about… this is as cheap as you will get without buying a truckload from china.

I loath how these devices are called hoverboards.

    • Not a board, doesnt hover, what isn't there to love?

      • +2

Well it doesn't hover but it is basically a board.

    • +6

      How about "Stickless Segway"?

      • +1

        How about pointless fire hazard?

    • i never heard the term for these as hoverboards until recent i always thought they were "balance boards"

      • +1

Self Balancing Scooter is the correct term

    • there's still time for a new name to catch on.

  • +1

I should add… theres another 3 stores on ebay australia that have similar pricing…. but o 2 of them, the accounts are very new and have nearly no feedback. But if this sells out… just do a search.. im sure something will pop up.

    • Not just popping up, but exploding!

  • -5

Please change title - Misleading title. It isn't a hoverboard.

Do these have Australian approved power supplies?

    • I think it's.a bargain relative to the original price on the other hand I am also irritated by the hover tag as they have two wheels they should be called electric roller boards but not hover. It is misleading until you see the product. I wish there were hoverboards.

  • The company's name in those "test certificates" is hidden, this doesn't sound alarming?
I wouldn't risk my kids and house for a few hours' fun.

    • +1

it depends if the fires have been caused by the power supplies for charging or the lithium batteries and poor construction. The Australian standard only checks the power supplies, not how the interior is built of the board. So you can get an Australian approved unit because the power supply has the tick, but still one heck of a lot of energy in the lithiums wanting to ignite…. that is why they quote whose cells they use, airlines hate these things for check-in luggage.

Check you tube for lithium batteries exploding ….. my son has a "charging bag", made of fireproof foil for charging his RC car batteries …. they make them because RC batteries hold so much energy if if something goes wrong during charging it can burn your house down if unattended. You need to apply some common sense ….. it stores a lot more energy than a mobile phone or tablet or lap top.

I get voted down for raising an important safety issue, which the ACCC has issued a recall on similar products.

        https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/stay-safe-on-hoverboar…

The recall relates to the power supplies not being approved, but also some don't have Australian Regulatory Approval, which can also relate to them starting fires in the unit themselves while charging.

        • +8

You were downvoted for saying it was a misleading title. If you had specified that it was for the power supply rather than asking then you would be k.

        • Yea you hardly "raised an important safety issue" - you just asked whether it has Australian approved power supplies..

      • Take a wet cell battery, constructed at minimum price and bang it into the wall as hard as you can a few times. What could go wrong?

    • Yep, it does to me!

    • Shenzhen Gojosin Technology Co., Ltd is the company that manufactured or rebranded the hoverboard.

Only information I can bring up is this on their AC adapter that says it's certified to be used in Korea, but not FCC approved.

  • -6

This is not a bargain, buy a $271 board in exchange to burning your home or your landlord's property down. http://www.cnet.com/au/news/why-are-hoverboards-exploding-an… Firemachines for sale, let's burn down homes. How is this a bargain?

  • +6

Im not changing anything… they are known in the marketplace as hoverboards as per the listing.. with this kind of reception ill think twice before posting a deal on here again… way to discourage community growth.

    • +13

Your post is fine. But the product is a death trap, a piece of shit, and everything that is wrong with Chinese manufacturing

        • +8

FFS. I didn't say everything from China is junk. This product symbolizes what is wrong with the industry. If you want a cheap electric gadget, Sure! It just might kill your family though

      • +1

I think most, even the name brands will be made in China …… don't think too many will be made in USA or Germany. The bigger questions for consumers is what is the difference between the brands.

  • +4

Fun > house and kids. This guy has his priorities straight.

  • +8

Its a bargain because you will struggle to find a cheaper one… understand?

  • +1

Yeah i was serious about the house burning down too… ever heard of sarcasm?

  • -7

Lets see if we can get a record for negs on this you trolls.

    • +2

Why are you taking the voting system so serious? Come on man this is just a bargain site. Why are these comments and votes affect you so much? These people are just some random on the internet. Whatever they say just write "Oh true", "thanks" or "happy new year". No need to take them too serious. Im pretty sure you have far more important things in life than these down/up votes and negative comments.

      • Your right… im over it now… just the rapid succession of neg votes were making me FURIOUS… In my naivety i actually thought this was something people might want. I know ive been chasing one for a while.

        • -3

          ->2015 (aka the current year)
->getting butthurt because of comments made online
          ->whatrockhaveyoubeenhidingunder.gif

  • just get a boosted board they're more expensive but they're way safer (as far as the battery goes) and can go up to 30-40mph depending on your weight. they're epic.

  • I know they might burn the house down

lol there are currently alot of recalls for hoverboards http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/search/index.phtml?query=balancing&collection=recalls&meta_G=[952818]

  • +2

First, this isn't a Hoverboard, its just a motorized board. Second, buyers might want to think twice before buying these. Plenty of accidents with these. Doesn't matter if its a deal or not its a unsafe product.

    • if a skate board stops due to a rock under the wheel at 5km …. you jump off,……. at 10 kph you fall off …… one of these at 30 kph if it hits a rock and stops ….. you are in trouble if you can't run at 30kph.

  • is it my imagination… or does the guy in the photo look like hes falling off it ?

anyways…. this looks like just another hoverboard… so many on ebay..!

  • I heard from my cousin-in-law visiting from Hong Kong that many of these hoverboards made in China have poor quality control, issue of battery overheated and burst in flame. Better read up on reviews on the brand before you purchase them.

  • -6

Mods, can we please have a ban on these things UNLESS they have AU certification?

    • What certification would that be? They will never be certified as roadworthy, so ride them in your own yard etc.

If you don't like the supplied external charger, you can get one with A-tick or CE, but the scooter itself is a battery operated toy, so what authority do you expect to "certify" it?

And yes, large li-ion batteries from dubious suppliers should be treated with caution.
But I would not even charge my brand-name power tools next to anything too flammable.

Not to mention it is a scooter. I hope you get your kids to ride with a helmet, etc, same as a skateboard. Falling off is still the biggest hazard.

  • -8

Sorry mate but cant be supporting something that can cause injury to human life.

    • +13

      I hope you don't drive a car

    • +2

hyperventilation can kill. better leave the air for the rest of us.

  • -4

"Fashion & Cool item". Love the marketing. Agree they are a POS - and this is probably the worst quality going around. It's definitely not a samsung endorsed battery, may be made out of the same factory. But, some people still want one and this is fairly cheap. I'm not buying one but you can't blame the guy for trying! The ebay site actually put me onto a cheap Nutribullet!! http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321881008376

  • +11

I don't mind if you don't support it… i have no horse in the race. They are popular, they are selling in huge numbers… i just thought id help those who were interested in finding one at a discounted price.

Now some people on here are trying to make me look like the devil.

But anyways… lesson learned… the products shit and unsafe… i get it.

    • +1

      You're not the devil, but family/lives > bargain :)

    • +2

You're taking this way too personal. Just because people don't agree with you doesn't mean they hate you.

  • -1

    Pickup only…

    • +1

Whats pickup only? This is free post?

      • +4

Its a joke cause who the hell would ship these. Airlines are banning them, only a matter of time before AUS POST and couriers stop allowing them also, maybe even customs.

        • +1

          Ahhh i see.

        • -1

I think it would already be banned by Australia Post since the battery would be over 100 watt-hours.

          http://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/dangerous-and-prohibited-…

        • @cynic: I couldn't find the watt hour specs on the at eBay listing, did you find them?

        • It indicates a HYY-10S2P lithium-ion battery which seems to be 36V 4.4aH and would be ~158Wh if I am not mistaken.

  • +4

Anyone read the current story on the net that Virgin Australia refused Russell Crowe and his kids to board a plane with one of these dangerous things (and in protest he said he won't use Virgin again)? Good job for Virgin to put the safety of its passengers first and OzBargain should do the same and ban this thing from the site.

    • I agree. It might be a bargain ..but its not something people should buy.

    • +1

yep - even 10 years ago there was a limit on the amount of batteries you could bring aboard an airplane. Its just that the only people likely to hit this limit is professional film crew. (what they would have to do is notify airline and "spread" the allowance amongst their staff.)

now every person bringing ONE of these boards is over the limiit for airplanes.
from memory I think it was a 50,000mah limit per person which is around 5 laptops per person or probably 0.5 hoverboards.

      • -1

The sooner they ban them the better. We were already sick and tired of some arrogant, risk-taking cyclists and now when these things popular you'll hear daily some brainless "hoverboard" riders running into people everywhere.

  • Im just gonna run an extension lead out and charge mine on the lawn, that was always my plan. And get the kids to wear fireproof clothing…lol

    • +5

You're taking this as a personal attack. Calm down. Nothing wrong with people being concerned for their family and their safety.

  • +2

Come on guys, OP is a newbie

  • Probably best to wait til these manufacturers get their s—t together. I don't want to pay to be a beta tester

  • +1

The issue isn't the board itself but the Lithium battery. The higher the capacity of the lithium battery, the higher the damage is going to be if there is an issue which is why you hear the horror stories with these things. RC car batteries (especially the bigger ones) have a similar issue but maybe not as highly publicised. A quick google search will show you the issue with lithium batteries and reasons why there are transportation restrictions and why they explode. There are bags out on the market which you can store the batteries in while charging to prevent disasters.

  • +1

this thing collects your daily routine and location data then secretly sent back to the oversea government thru your iphone.

  • I came here for the "not a hoverboard" comments.
    Not that many surprisingly!

  • Thanks, good price and looks like fun. You noted the battery concerns and still all this negativity… wow! I cant wait to have a go on one

    • +1

Its a poor-man's Segway. Just as useless and just as much fun, at a fraction of the price.

  • -1

I thought only douchebags owned these

  • I've bought one of these from Tempered Glass King a month ago and had nothing but fun. Been using it daily and had no problems with the battery. The range is surprising good at 7.5km as well.

  • +3

    they're really not that dangerous.
I don't understand all of this negative feedback. Previous deals' comments weren't so aggressive.

Edit: I think it's because of the slandering in the media. The Government doesn't like these things because they're unlicensed which is why they're so affordable. Instead of a massive overhead going to branding the consumer is the one who wins.

  • Edit: Nevermind I thought I found it cheaper on eBay but it was just the bag.

  • +1

    Not legal on foot paths.

  • People getting worked up about so called hoverboard dangers… but the truth is that people carrrying devices with having the same energy densities in their pockets right next to their private parts and dont even think twice about it.. also cheaply made in china haha

  • +3

As soon as these things are on the news as a dangerous toy all the believers get on the bandwagon on saying how evil this board is when really it's just a bit of fun.

There are too many people that want to be wrapped in cotton wool and have the government look after all aspects of our safety to the ninth degree.

  • Seriously it's so unsafe, fire hazard, blah blah trolls

  • Thanks OP for your post! Bought one

  • I should of made some popcorn before I came in here…

  • After all the issues and safety risks seen on the news and YouTube, I wouldn't touch any self balancing board. Oh, and they are apparently illegal to ride in public

  • +3

Dear Lord; I've broken a wrist, arm, leg, ribs, got numerous stitches, burns, bruises, sprains and literally took out my two front teeth playing with toys (mostly due to enthusiasm & good toys than lack of skill). I've also lost an acquaintance to a skateboarding accident. I've come through it all with a healthy but realistic respect for danger, but also a more experienced (and coordinated) man. Apart from untimely death I wouldn't change a thing, and it saddens me seeing the current states of affairs with squishy super-safe playgrounds, regulated toys, and worst of all: overprotective parenting.

The batteries bursting may be a reason to be wary, but all the media (and above complaints) I see about how dangerous they are to ride is ridiculous. Since when did every toy have to be covered in bubble wrap and certified 50 times before we can have fun with it.

  • safety concerns aside… what do you even do with these? it's illegal to use these on a footpath, or a street. I guess i could ride around my apartment…
    seems… fun.

    • +2

Its a novelty item. You ride it around the park (when not busy) or car-park.
Its a lot of fun for a while, but to me it wears off quickly. Long-term, a skate-board or scooter is much better.

    • People still ride it around the street. Just because it is illegal does not mean no one does it.
