  • Great price, great bit of hardware.
Is SE and FutuOnline the same company?

    • Yes. Futu is their eBay store.

      • Thanks, thought so. Just wondering if possible to do a credit card price protection claim since both are the same company. Might give it a go.. might get $30 or so back from my FutuOnline purchase 6 months ago.

This is the best price I've seen the Gen8. If I needed another I'd jump on this.

  • Has anyone used this for a Plex server with sonarr and couch potatoe? How does it run?

    • I have, you'll have absolutely no problem there, apart from Sonarr which uses just a little bit of CPU time (because of Mono framework) none of these applications are CPU resource heavy. This is using debian jessie on that server.

      • Thanks mate. I ended up getting this. Yet to decide what OS I'll be using.

        • Ok sounds good, whatever OS you end up choosing ensure that its a linux/BSD variant, Sonarr on windows uses heaps of resources and this Celeron doesn't have the power to waste resources (let alone on windows itself). Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu, ESXI (HV), FreeNAS or SUSE would be a good fit.

Furthermore if you end up running both Couch Potato and Sonarr long term look into Docker or FreeNas Jails to isolate apps from each other and make updates painless. Running everything on the same host is never a good idea.

      • Hey OP, I'm currently running Sabnzbd and Sonarr on my PC. Can I leave them as they are (on my PC) and have Sonarr redirect/store it to this hp microserver so I can access it later? Do I need the extra ECC ram?

        • Yes you can but the idea of this server is that it runs 24/7 so it will always download even when your PC is off. With a file server enabled you can always choose to store the files on here, but if you are new to this you may be better off simply using a Synology NAS to store your content.

In terms of EEC ram it costs more but ensures less chance of data loss, there are big discussions around if its needed however if you are only downloading movies on to it, I would not recommend it as you pay a lot more for it. It would be recommended it if it were critical family photos instead.

        • @Haxxa: Does this machine support non-ecc ram?

        • @kickTrick: Yes standard DDR3 Ram is supported.

  • Anyone see any specials on ECC ram to upgrade this?
