This was the same price in October ($429.99 USD + shipping), but then you had $7.98 shipping and an Amex discount.
Then they killed the party when they stopped shipping to AU and then restarted but upped the shipping costs.

Now shipping is $75 USD

Nevertheless, still seems a better deal than what you can buy in Sydney.

For example:
$799 + shipping for an older CPU, less RAM and less hdd

6th Generation Intel Core i5-6400 Quad-Core 2.7 GHz processor (turbo to 3.3GHz)
8GB DDR3; 1TB HDD 7200 RPM
Intel Integrated 530 HD Graphics
802.11 AC WiFi with Bluetooth 4.0
Windows 10 Home Operating System

If you chat to Amazon sales support they can be pretty easily talked into knocking off $20 USD off the shipping costs when you mention 2 months ago it was $7.98 USD and is now $74.06 USD… That brings the price down to $484.06 USD…

I would love to hear from people who bought it previously - is it any good?

  • MSY Prices
    i5 6400 - $269
    1TB Drive $66
    8GB DDR3 Ram - $54
$389 plus a case and motherboard at MSY. That won't cost you an extra $302…

      Case+power supply ~$75
      Windows 10 Home - ~$135
      Motherboard ~ $100

Works out a bit cheaper. Not too bad for someone who isn't interested in building.

      • Sure, but you could easily get Windows 10 infinitely cheaper…. (and no I'm not advocating illegal).

How do you get Windows for infinitely cheaper?

This deal may takes a while to arrive, I'd go for MSY even if it is a bit more expensive.

        • @aggregate:
Isn't it a free upgrade still? 7 and 8 keys don't cost $135 if so.

        • @scuderiarmani:

I am very interested where I can get a legal win 7 or 8 key infinitely cheaper than $135. Please provide a link or better yet, post a bargain!

Which $100 motherboard has inbuilt 802.11 AC wifi?

Edit also add another $10 or $20 if you are building a replica to cover the cost of the DVD drive (assuming you want one)

  • Graphics card lets it down. Wouldn't game on that integrated Intel 530 HD graphics.

You'll need to add a dedicated graphics card if you want to play any real games on this computer.

  • Last time around there was an Amazon Amex deal which was an additional 15% off. Some early buyers got the i5 model for around $620 AUD delivered.

    • Yeah as I mentioned in the post "This was the same price in October ($429.99 USD + shipping), but then you had $7.98 shipping and an Amex discount."

If you chat to Amazon sales support they can be pretty easily talked into knocking off $20 USD off the shipping costs when you mention 2 months ago it was $7.98 USD and is now $74.06 USD…..

It would be good to hear from some people who bought it in that previous deal - is it any good?

Hang on minute, I though Skylake CPU are all DDR4, not DDR3.

It's bullshit. There is some degree of compatibility.

Refer to the comments. The top comment is right.

      • As I read it, there are DDR3L ('low voltage') legacy skylake boards… these run fine on DDR3L, Not DDR3 NO 'L'

dealers like the above just run DDR3 as if there's nothing wrong but they are out of spec according to Intel
