  • Can vouch for this product - Topfield are the best in the business.

But is there anyone left who records FTA TV these days?

Me on a Humax HDR-7500T twin HD tuner.

      • Hi hollykryten, how much you paid for it and is it worth the price?

From memory 11 months ago i paid about $260 for my Humax PVR from IceTV. That was considered a good deal compared to the retailer price.

Same here, doesn't get much use now as the main TV has a Telstra T-Box connected to it.

Plus the ABC stopped the ability to use iView on the Humax.

FWIW, I paid $229 for the Humax but that wasn't on special, my old PVR had just died so needed a replacement.

Do people still pay to watch ads and reruns?

      • +1

He's talking FTA, not Foxtel ;)

    • There are people still taping using VHS's. Not everyone moves at our breakneck tech speed

    • Topfield were the best in the business, I reckon Beyonwiz have overtaken them with the new T series boxes. Beyonwiz boxes are very very good (though they start at around double this price).

Yeah, I record FTA TV all the time, on a Beyonwiz T2, and copy it to a linux box with the fast ethernet connection, and strip adds and top-and-tail content, and never watch ads! :-)

JB also have the TRF-7160 for $198 which IMHO is a much better deal. It is listed as a "Factory Scoop" on their website and the RRP for the 7160 is $349 whereas the RRP for the 2200 is $259. The 7160 has TAP support which is the reason why the Toppies are a great PVR.

    • looking for something to replace a Beyonwiz but the TRF 7160 doesn't get good reviews

      • That's strange. I have had an older model Toppy for about 5 years and it has never missed a beat. The one important thing with Toppies is that out of the box they are not that flash. Older firmware has had bugs so that needs to be updated and then TAPs "Topfield Application Programs" should be installed to get the most benefit from the PVR. These make the PVR extremely user-friendly and allow you to do many, many things including effortless series recording, skipping ads by the press of a button, archiving, setting up timers over internet, etc, etc. And there is an active community of people that write TAPs.

  • Hi, the price that shows up for me is $159. Does anyone know if there is a coupon code or the like associated with this?
