Free Motor Mouth Mobile App - Free from Next Week $2.99 Value

124

I just received an email that Motor mouth app will be free from next week.

PLEASE NOTE THE CURRENT RATING OF APP IS 1.5, so don't neg the deal based on that rating, as most of the comments on App Store is related to the money being charged for app

Hi there,

As the giving season approaches, we want to give you something you'll really enjoy: more money in your pocket.

That's why from next week, we're relaunching the MotorMouth app and making it FREE - giving you access to new features you'll love!

As part of our commitment to delivering a great service, this means the time we spend on maintaining our website will now be spent on making the app truly valuable for you, our community.

You'll still be able to search for local area averages on our website, but other features including site level pricing will be moving to the app.

The app will also give you a range of user-friendly, never-before-seen features.

Get excited for…

A personalised experience.

Location-based data will give you relevant pricing for the stations near you.

Market trends and forecasts.

Set your favourite fuel sites and view current prices and forecasts for these locations.

A fresh coat of paint.

We've smartened up the look and feel for a simpler, cleaner interface.

High-powered speed.

Vroom vroom - it's now even faster to load the prices you need!

A heads up feature for your mates.

Seen cheap fuel near your friend's place? Send them a heads up within the app.

New features you can unlock for free.

Collect fuel prices to earn points and you'll be rewarded for tipping off the community.

Sounds pretty good, huh?

Pretty soon you'll receive an email to let you know the new app is available for download and 250 bonus credits as an added incentive to get started. These credits can be used to unlock premium features and add-ons within the app.

We've listened to feedback from all over Australia and want to continue this conversation to help make our new app even better.

Change of model from paid to freemium belongs in the forums. Sorry!

  • is that gonna be for both iOS and Android ?

I believe so. The email is generic, and I have copied pasted the entire email above.

      or Windows Phone?

It better be as they are taking site prices off the website :(

  • Any IAP's after it goes free?

You only have one bar reception on 4G. Would it be faster on 3G with say 3 bars. Just wondering!

    • Nah 1 bar of 4g is awesome

    • posted it while travelling between Wynyard and Milsons point

    • The free app offer is after 1 week. They haven't mentioned the exact date yet.

  • You'll still be able to search for local area averages on our website, but other features including site level pricing will be moving to the app.

If you still want to be able to access the site pricing from their website,
I'd encourage people to email them through their webform here https://motormouth.com.au/contactus.aspx
    or emailing [email protected]

Not everyone has a smartphone (or at least an IOS or Android) or has a data plan.

Just downloaded the new app. First impressions are that it is charging for everything that is useful. Almost any feature costs on a time basis like 24 hours, 28 days, etc. Without basically subscribing (by auto-renewing features) this app appears to be useless. And if the site level pricing is removed from the web-site, then it's pay constantly or find alternatives.

Defeats the purpose of the app

    Hi folks,

MotorMouth rep here. Thanks for your feedback so far. We really appreciate it - please keep it coming!

The idea behind this upgrade is that users don't need to pay anything if they contribute fuel prices to the app and help out the community. New users will receive 250 points to get them familiar with the premium features, and existing app users will receive an extra 250 bonus credits on top of that for being among our earliest supporters.

Next time you're within 400m of a petrol station, simply record the price of fuel or snap a photo of the price board. You'll be able to trade this pricing info for credits, then use those credits to unlock premium features.

By helping the community, you should be able to gain full access to the app without ever paying a cent. During the research phase, some people expressed to us that they would prefer to pay and get the access straight away, rather than contributing prices. So we made both options possible for people using the app.

Hope this helps to explain the new credits program and clarify any misunderstanding. Most of all, we hope you love the new app!

    :)

You appreciate the feedback. Thats nice. Will you show your appreciation by acting on it? Is this another faux consultation; We speak, no-one listens?

    • +1

You have presented a fait accompli. You didn't consult beforehand. Seeking consultation now is a sham, and a waste of ozbargainers' time.

    • Thanks for your feedback so far. We really appreciate it

Hmmm - appreciate it so much you haven't bothered to check in since posting.

I've also emailed you and got an automated response that "One of our service consultants will contact you within 2 working days"
That was last week. Still no response.

    • what will 250 points give you? is it say each time you look up a price it costs 25points for example?

  • Thanks for your feedback so far. We really appreciate it - please keep it coming!

What about Windows Phone/Blackberry/Non smart phone users?

I get your model but how about at least letting people be able to access the new details through a web page from a PC/Mac (albeit through login/credit etc) if need be.

I thought the existing website is fine.

  • Existing registrations on your site; Are they still valid or did you bin them? App tells me "Oops, looks like you don't have an account yet", even though have been receiving emails from you because have registered on your site.

  • Has anyone not received their twice daily emails since yesterday?

    Great timing.

Very convenient to do this just as we head off for xmas travels :) thanks !

    SARCASM .

Sorry to the OP but I had to neg it due to all existing info being pulled from their freely available website and forcing us to either pay or jump through a lot of hoops.

(I agree with maybe paying or jumping through hoops to get extra info like live site pricing etc but surely the twice daily average price emails and twice daily top 5 servos for a given search criteria - i.e. what's currently available - should be able to stay as you already have the infrastructure in place.

If you want community participation, great, make it voluntary and not mandatory!

    • problem is that people weren't participating I think.

  • Have to neg as the app keeps crashing…

    • you need to upgrade your old phone :)
Never crashes on iPhone 6 plus

  • This deal is bad. You only get 28 days of free updates, then you have to pay for another 250 credits. this is not a deal. go to petrolsly for a free app that shows all your petrol prices and does not make you pay.
