They are going to cop a flogging tomorrow

There was no "while stocks last" or terms and conditions in the radio ad either!!

    • The end time is the control. At 2pm people start paying again.

It's on their Facebook page too. I wonder if they'll be offering takeaway?

  • This is as rare as hens teeth….

God I love Nandos, but that one on Kent st is sooooooo slooooow. I'm generally happy to wait because it's so delicious.

Unless they're organising things differently at this store I can see them giving away maybe 10 meals in those 3 hours. Ok maybe I'm being dramatic, I just hope they get more chicken out the door than they usually do. Or there will be a lot of unhappy punters.

Incidentally, this new Nandos at 155 Clarence is crazy close to that existing store on Kent, about 100m away. Odd, as there is plenty of nandos under-served areas in the CBD. I wonder if we're seeing a franchise war here. I'd be super pissed if I owned the Kent St store and another one opened so close, most stores are a long way apart.

    • I know! Weird hey…that they put the new store so close.

Also agree with you that Kent St takes like 30++++ mins just to serve a basic combo. It's ridiculous!

      • Hey! It takes time to pull the roaches off your chicken!

        XD

    • Reminds me of the time i cooked in Ethiopia for 200 people. They were like, it's so sloooooowwwwwwww. But I'll wait.

    • Haven't been to Kent Street for a while(a year now)… continuous cockroach issue… what's worse is it doesn't look like they regularly clean up the pests ie pre opening the store in the Morning. OR even scarier we're walking/sitting around in a toxic pest brew.

I know you can't 100% get rid of cockroaches, but I do have a relative who had own a fish and chip store, meticulous cleaning/hygiene standards is why you rarely ever see pests in most Eateries.

        ew really?

Officially they have a pretty good record. No breaches or fines listed

        http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/penalty-notices/default.…
Just Kogarah and Campbelltown. Both issues with Pests though.

        • just the Kent street one,

first 2 time I dismissed it, 3rd time.. nah havent been back in over a year

        • @Baghern: no doubting you. There is a Vietnamese place on Erskine St where I have spotted a roach in the bain marie at 1pm. Yet they're also not listed has having any infringements. I told them and walked out the door

        • @ChickenTalon:

You'd think the staff would already be aware of what you noticed in a few minutes. I'd report them to the Food Authority for the sake of future patrons and competing businesses who do the right thing.

        • @Scrooge McDuck:

If you walk past, look at the floor below the stools/benches facing the window from outside or in.. mainly the corner.

They could easily say it was from over night… if it was why didn't they clean it up in the morning.

        • @ChickenTalon:

Can't do much about insects running around/getting inside.

1 no big deal, tell them… multiples times seeing this might be an issue.

Dead pests… should be cleaned up before opening in the morning. Not clearing up in the morning before opening makes me feel theres a wider problem

  • Restaurant is at 155 Clarence St.

    Not far from Oporto.

    Shots fired…

Free lunch before Star Wars event! :D

    • my thoughts exactly, I got time to burn so Nando's it is :)

  • Cheeky….

  • Expecting they know what's coming so hopefully there isn't a two hour long queue. Sydney CBD new Nandos store free lunch = Chaos. Good luck to all the brave people heading there!

  • This is one of those things I would imagine is actually bad to advertise. You get tight arses like our crowd who don't work nearby and have no particular reason to go back rather than the locals who might actually continue to eat there.

  • Its going to be a line so long it goes around the block just like when GYG had their free lunch

  • please someone come early and give live report, just like apple iphone first day queue/camp

  • oh man I am so keen but have meetings till 12…or I would have gone at 11.15

  • Are there any people queueing already?

Nandos generally put a lot of effort into cooking their burgers, from my own experience it is usually a 3 minute wait for one.

I'm not sure how many quarter chickens they can cook in 3 hours.

    • You know they get the chicken pre cooked from the supplier these days?

      • Ugh, I should have tried my luck.

      • That's not such a bad thing. Wouldn't wanna wait 20+ min for my order and/or risk salmonella poisoning.

  • +1

I am in the line! At its current length took me about 10 minutes to get half way to the door. Here's hoping it's only another 10 until lunch….

  • Its big queue there we went , we see & we back …

  • +1

I'm here right now too. They are giving out snacks in the line though. Got my iPhone and my headphones all good, weather isn't too bad either.

Looks like I showed up early, the line behind me is very long

  • +1

I just came back after having the meal. Service was quick. They gave goodies as well - Tea Towel / Chilli Shaped Pen / Chilli Seeds

  • +1

Went there at 1120. My friend was near the front of the line already. Service was actually like really quick.

However, in try ozbargain fashion. This girl was able to get about 6 bags since noone was claiming them. My friend also got an extra meal by just waiting around at the line.

    • Didn't the staff notice?

When I collected my first and only meal at 1:55, the manager looked deep into my eyes and scrutinised me closely. It was like he could smell my stinginess (and no I wasn't wearing Pino aftershave). That or my doppelganger was there before me…

      • i'm guessing since it was around 1130 and noone had done that yet they didn't mind. I'm sure after walking about with 6 bags the greeter and the crowd said something

  • +2

Thanks op, got one here starting to eat

  • There about 50ppl outside queueing up, u need to wait a bit

  • Whos in line here? Big line! 50metres deep

  • +1

Just got back with take-away, my chicken is huge. line seemed long but moved fairly decently - about 20 mins wait? and then less than 2 minutes wait after I put my order in.

    thanks for posting OP!!

    • +3

That's less waiting than on a normal day when the chicken isn't free!

      (no + for the op?)

      • +2

I'm a noob and not used to voting. Just did it now, thanks for the reminder! I even plussed your comment lol

  • Thanks OP. That was one of the best restaurant openings I've been to. Plenty of friendly staff, quick service, tidy dining area, generous portions and great food.

I really appreciated the hand-basin and soap. I hope that catches on in every other restaurant.

    • +1

Most Nandos have that even overseas, it is great saves you having to go in to smelly toilet just to wash your hands especially if lots of people have hot or extra hot sauce ;D

      • Saves you from reinfecting your hands on the doors on the way out of the bathroom or wasting paper towels to mitigate that too.

  • A free meal is a free meal but did anyone else notice that the chips were soggy? They had been placing the chips in the boxes before the chicken was ready and the chips sweated. I appreciate they were probably churning out 200 an hour at the time I was served. If I was paying I would want crisp chips. Good clean tables and great setting. The live music was loud and lively.

    • I'd assume they'd be fine under normal conditions.

The food is overpriced, but they have a good process that ensures the food is good.

Only thing I don't like is that all the Sydney franchises are weak on basting.

When I was in Melbourne and ordered extra hot for basting, it was extra hot!!!. Caught me out had to order med hot next time.
