I currently have 8GB in my system and I can't find an honest answer on whether I can gain more performance from my machine from the addition of more RAM.
I want to start getting into some heavy video editing and will be doing a lot of graphic design (Illustrator/Photoshop), would another 8/16GB help with the performance with these tasks and the general running of my PC?
I have Windows 10 and OS X 10.11
If anyone has an answer I'd be grateful! I can always trust an OzBargainer, tightarses tell the truth!
8GB vs 16GB no difference for games.
8GB vs 16GB probably a big difference for video/image editing.
Depends on the game. Some new 64-bit games are utilising even more RAM. Take Star Wars Battlefront for example, the minimum PC requirement is 8GB RAM and recommended is 16GB RAM. So gone are the days when 8GB RAM alone will be sufficient for gaming.
Nope. 16GB does next to nothing for games.

In the tests they even have chrome open in the background using a couple of GB of ram.
That was the first thing when I googled but I have seen other benchmarks which show the same thing.
I suppose they hadn't tested Star Wars Battlefront.
More RAM means the swap file isn't accessed so it wouldn't slow down over time.
I play bf4 and stream spotify, "memory too high, plase close bf4." What???
I play cities skylines, no mods and 3 pieces assests. "Memory too high, please close cities skylines." What?
I do recommend buy 16gb nowadays for future proof gaming experience.Yes especially when 16GB DDR3 RAM can be bought for only around $100-120 AUD. Not like it's breaking the bank to obtain 16GB. And take Star Wars Battlefront for example like i said previously the official recommended system requirement is 16GB RAM. So games are now beginning to officially recommend 16GB RAM.
Even right now you can buy a Crucial Ballistic Sport 16GB DDR3 RAM kit for $97 AUD delivered from Amazon. Why bother with 8GB when you can jump straight to 16GB for future proofing for even currently under $100 for that matter.
The statement i made wasn't about buying 8GB of ram of 16GB or ram…16GB would be the minimum for a new system.
My statement was the fact that 16GB of ram makes no difference to FPS for gaming.
Your FPS isn't going to increase by moving from 8GB to 16GB in any game including star wars battlefront…
Mrs does photoshop with raw images. Opens a couple at a time. We had 8gb, I upgraded it to 16gb and she says she's noticed a difference
Using an i5 system with only on board gpu, just for reference :)
Going from 8GB to 16GB will absolutely make a noticeable difference for heavy media creation. I'd recommend a minimum of 16GB for that kind of work.
the processors have become more efficient in recent years eliminating benefits of big RAM numbers,
but if you're loading big media/images then you will benefit as the data will be stored in RAM for faster access£
any sales for DDR4 16 gb ram?
Well there's the Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 2400mhz RAM kit from Amazon for $133 delivered. Local stock for this model at PCCG is $179.

I paid $195 for these and $245 for the Sandisk 480GB Ultra II SSD last year. Talk about serious price drops.
