Udemy actively puts up pirated training material and profits from it!, will neg for this reason alone (apologies to deal poster)
Was just reading about Troy Hunts experiences with Udemy.
EDIT: This is worth a read https://medium.com/@robconery/how-udemy-is-profiting-from-pi…
well what a load of horse poop that is - EVERY US based content host on the net uses that same process - you issue a valid DMCA and they take it down. That guy is whining like a petulant child to be frank. Its the same on ebay, the same on youtube, the same on every monetisation platform you can point at.
i don't think the neg was necessary.
it's not as though they are selling caged eggs or underpaying employees…
Everything is copied of something. In a materials world the essential things are … materials
Err, the Udemy "course" is simply stripped of the Pluralsight intro and extro. The content, ie presenter is in the cases above are Troy and Rob, wow!. They are not getting one cent from Udemy, someone else is and Udemy is getting their cut.
Do you think for a minute those authors will be compensated for Udemy's actions…. Nope. Do you know how long it takes to create training material and video content, it's usually about 60 mins for 1 min for video content.
I did use Udemy in the past. Based off these event I simply won't use them again.
Neggs are expensive in neopets
so if you write a book or make an instructional video and someone just steals it, removes the bits where you say your name and company you work for and re-upload it to Udemy that makes it ok to make money off…. because its just 'materials' ?
cool story frewer
these people aren't just 'copying bits of something' they have just directly stolen the source material and uploaded it as their own
Please keep in mind that I don't condones nor admires stealing. As my statement stand, you guys are talking like never download any torrents. The similar, if not even worse, happened to people whose lost their lands and their livelihood due to colonization. Judgement is fine, but judgement without mercy is very dangerous.
Life is full of negative, but don't let it clouds your mind. As other said there are genuine lecture on udemy.
One main characteristic of material is transferable ( either with or without consent ). We, as a civilization, can advance this far due to the ability to be able to share the knowledge ( accumulated over time ).
Knowledge is power, and that power should shares … That is my 5c.
@frewer: god you talk a lot of crap mate
take your jesus crap elsewhere
@Makoto: No need to be personal man, want some Buddhism then ? Im bi-lingo.
You're right, I don't download torrents
pls del this
Sure there are some bad people in this world.
But there are also many genuine legitimate people putting up some excellent Udemy courses.
Very True.
The issue is though that its debatable whether Udemy have an appropriate policy/process in place to quickly identify and remove content that has not been approved for use by original creators. The dilemma is that Udemy make a significant cut from each course so they are subconsciously not going to do more than they are legally required to.
Understandably some people are going to be pi$$ed off.
Some good courses there so thanks OP
Profiteering of pirated material.
Udemy will never get another click from me, ever.Hi OP,
4,5,6 are soldout, they are no more free.
Thanks
Pity the "A Guide to Copyright for Media Artists and Educators" isn't part of the deal. Would have liked to see what Udemy says about copying other people's work without attribution or payment, without paying for it myself.
Develop A Winners Mindset - Did anyone see that the 17 year old Digital Marketing Expert and author of 13 books will tell you how to develop positive thinking? It is an 'amazing' decision to sign up to their course…
How to Get out of Debt and Make More Money - How about use that money you've saved to buy a microphone that filters out background noise Viktor? I love that he is filming it in front of a world map, because his entrepreneurial skills and advice are international!
