Phone announced this month and released yesterday. Specs: http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_note_3-7769.php

  • Good for Telstra networks?

    • +6
      • +1

Did not know this tool - impressed
        Thanks!

      • I wonder if there a reverse of that tool? Tell it your country, provider and find out which of the phones will work? Maybe even down to telling it where you are in Australia (so the frequencies available to you).

    • will work but without 700 MHz doesn't take advantage of the new bands that work better indoors and crowded places. same for Optus …… not sure why Chinese have such a challenge to male all band phones like apple Samsung and the big brands do.

  • +1

Good price for a very new phone which just came out a few days ago.
But i'll have to pass based on two points below:
    1. No memory card slot. 32GB isn't enough for me.
    2. Does not support all 4G LTE bandwidth, like band 28 (Telstra) in Oz

    • That's fair enough, I got very good coverage in Melbourne with my Note 2.

    • +9

You basically won't find any phones that support band 28 for this price and specification. And lots of people seem to get by without that band anyway

      • I got my Zenfone 2 for not much more and it has 700mhz (B28)
Once you use 700mhz 4GX with Telstra, you cannot go back.
Unfortunately most phones out of HK or China do not have this band.

        • +3

I've only got normal Telstra 3G, what's so good about 700mhz? Also this phone is really supposed to be 240 AUD going by 1099 RMB official price, it's only a matter of time until the price gouging ends

        • @pseudobacon:

I get 4GX reception everywhere now. I can't even remember the last time I lost LTE signal(I live in Sydney metro).
Before 700mhz, I would always lose it when deep inside a building etc
Concrete building? No chance on the higher mhz

This phone is awesome for people who don't have the option for 4G 700mhz but if you have access to it, you're doing yourself a massive disservice by buying a phone without the band.
I would've bought a Note 2 if it had 700mhz, had to go with the Zenfone instead.

        • That's the price is china though. There is also shipping to australia plus profit. I would not really call this price 'gouging'.

        • +1

@mark96: One could just buy it directly from Taobao and ship over themselves if they knew what they were doing. The prices which resellers sell at should be RRP, which means they should already be making a margin at that price

        • +1

700 MHz works better indoor due to wavelength and currently less people on it so less congestion.

    • +1

My oneplus one realises multi megabyte throughput even from the weakest 4g Telstra signal indoors within metro; I have no want for more period.
      Common FDD band 3.

  • banggood AU$277.59 with 6% off coupon "6%minote3", but it's preorder not sure how long you have to wait though.
    http://www.banggood.com/Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-3-5_5-inch-3GB-RAM…

    • +1

Yeah I would get this over Banggood, the free TNT shipping is worth it.

  • +7

Just got the Redmi Note 2, very nice phone for the price, came packed with some great malware which I removed

    • Any advice on how you removed it? My brother has that problem but when trying to reflash to official miui 7 it fails and says authentication error

      • Probably root + uninstall using Titanium Backup

      • +1

In mine, I installed sMiui ROM. Much better performance and battery life ever since…

      • There are a few different ways to flash a new Xiaomi ROM, the first two methods I tried gave similar errors to yours, something about a type mismatch.

Get on the Xiaomi forums and you can find the various ways to flash, try one that works for you

    • Yea but did you remove the backdoor in the bootloader? [EVIL GRINNING INTENSIFIES]

  • +1

Would this phone work with Optus? I don't really understand anything when it comes to the different bands. I live in rural Victoria if that makes a difference.

    • According to that willmyphonework website linked above, it will work with Optus 3G but maybe not for 4G.

  • Optus uses the 900Mhz and 2100Mhz 3G bands and 1800, 2100 and 2600Mhz 4G bands so you'll be fine

    • Optus do 700mhz if you have a phone that supports it

  • Gray is $199.99USD but select AUD shows $287.41 (not $284.13 AUD?)

select gold & silver and it shows $209.99USD select AUD its $301.78 (not same price for all colours)

    • It can be hard to get hold of different colours with Xiaomi. Particularly with power banks.

  • +1

note 2 still seems like the better choice :/

    • Well I was thinking that but it's not really true, the Note 2 Prime is slightly faster and has expandable storage

While the Note 3 has fingerprint reader, 1GB more of RAM, significantly bigger battery and (for better or worse) is made with more metal

      • why the Note2 is faster? They have the same processor and with 3GB of ram in Note3 I think that it will be faster, plus in note 3 both sims have 4G

        • 2.2ghz on prime edition of Note 2.

        • +1

@AusNugz: well, it would be hard to notice the difference, extra RAM would help the Note 3 perform better than Note 2 Prime plus higher clocked note 2 prime would drain the smaller battery faster. I'd choose the 3GB version of Note 3 over Note 2 Prime.

        • @meanozbgnr: Agreed. The ram (MIUI is bad with RAM management) will put it ahead of the Note 3.

        • @AusNugz: That's assuming you're hitting the maximum frequency all the time and I'd be that's not true. I'm also willing to bet it makes no noticeable difference

        • @pseudobacon: My bad meant Note 2.

        • bigger issue with speed is the radio speed, if you can't get the data makes no difference speed of processor that's why it is Sam they don't have better 4G support.

      • note 2

  • The deal is Presale. How does it work? Do I have to pay it first and wait? How long should I wait ?

    • You pay and wait. Stock is expected on the 4th of December and orders will be shipped out after that date.

      • 4th of December is for all colours?

        • It'll say under the price. The other colours seem to be Dec 31.

        • @Clear: Hi. Have any orders been shipped? Ordered grey which had a lead time of 18th but now it's 31st. Does that mean I have to wait till the 31st, or does my order get shipped today?

        • @crackermo: Order number? I'll have to ask GB staff and find out.

        • @Clear: Order #3527342. Cheers mate

        • @Clear: Any response?

        • @crackermo: Nope. I only hear from them on certain days.

        • @crackermo: Sorry mate. The first batch has already been shipped so it will be the 31st.

        • +1

@Clear: God damn. How come it said 18th when I ordered on the 4th?

        • @crackermo: That was the first lot.

        • +2

@Clear: Then why wasn't I part of that shipment if that was what was advertised…Also wasn't this the second shipment?

Hey, how do i know if my order is in first batch or second or third? From your website "Dear Customers, The first batch pre-order will be shipped out on 4th Dec, and the next batch will be shipped out between 11th to 16th Dec.Thank you for your always support."

          Proof: https://web.archive.org/web/20151203152156/http://www.geekbu…

This product lead time showed up until yesterday…

        • @crackermo: Sorry I forgot that it was the third shipment and not the second. They ship them out in order and they've obviously sold out of that batch and anyone else goes in the next batch and so forth.

I have no say in what they put on their website. I don't live or work in China. This is why I don't post deals on new products with limited numbers or presales.

make sure you flash the miui room after getting the phone, there might be some spyware installed.

it is not installed by xiaomi, these chinese exporter likes to source products from a supplier that is good at installing spyware.

probably huawei installed those spyware on xiaomi phone to damage the reputation.

    • This was mentioned as an issue numerous times with v6 but the phone I just had delivered came from Everbuying with v7 and doesn't appear (at least not obviously) to have any spyware/malware. Does anyone know a definitive way to test this?

  • Google Play by default or Chinese gisameeno?

    • -1

The phone retails for ~$US172 in China. Are you able to provide a link to where it's being sold for that much internationally?

      • Give it a week and I'll get back to you. I'm not expecting to get it for $172, but I don't want a $30 markup either, especially if I'm buying multiple units.

        • So you didn't even have a source? You have to provide one if you're going to neg based on price.

    • I really think people here should do their research before giving someone a negative..

      • I've been researching this phone and it's predecessor for 2 weeks. The competition will heat up when more units come on the market, just look at the note 2 which sells cheaper on Ali Express as compared to geekbuying/gearbest/ever buying.

  • I am interested in buying this phone - I need a second phone to use while I go overseas (I travel quite a bit, and to different places), will this be compatible with most mobile networks around the world? and other than the memory size, what is the difference between the 3+ gold 32Gb and 2+ gold 16Gb? Thanks to anyone who can clarify these things for me :)

    • http://www.willmyphonework.net/ will tell you what frequencies are compatible for different carriers around the world.

Only difference between 2GB/16GB and 3GB/32GB is Storage and RAM.

  • Any deal on the ASUS Zenfone 2 ZE551ML? Seems like a better overall phone with expandable memory, 4gb RAM and supports all the bands I need. 4000mAh battery on the Redmi note 3 is nice though.

    • You can get zenfone 2 ze551 for $318 delivered

  • -7

    overpriced!

    • How do u know

    • Proof?

      • Hey, so ur profile says u work for geek buying.
Just wondering what is ur best tablet for less than $200?

        • Depends what you're after. Android, Windows or both?

        • @Clear:
          Android.
I want it for games mainly so camera is not really important.

  • Really happy with their service. Received the product in under a week s time with TNT. If I knew note 3 was going to be released soon,I would have waited.

  • Mi5 will be revealed on the 5th, might see a price drop if you wait until then

    • Available for sale probably mid 2016, they are still waiting for Snapdragon 820

    • yeh im waiting on Mi5 news, looks good tho!

  • I can't find nfc in the Specs. I use mobile payments. Wish this has nfc 😔

  • For those who want to save a bit of money, there's a Banggood code b185f7 to save 5% or xmas06 to save 6%. The above code 6%minote3 doesn't work anymore.

Also, don't forget the 4.8% rebate from cashrewards…

BG is also selling the silver colour only. with 6% discount brings it to $278.87 delivered, with Cashrewards, net cost of phone is $265.48

At under $266 for a newly released phone with so many features, that's hard to beat!

I know the shipping time is terrible with BG sometimes, but I am happy to wait. But then again, BG will get their stock on 25th Dec 2015, which means it will be late Jan 2016 b4 it gets to customers.

  • +1

The $225 note 2 prime is on it's way to me but no longer required if any melbournites are interested

  • Sold out on the grey colour.

  • seems fine to me?

I can't make my mind up on this one. The lack of microsd is a bit of a bummer, but otherwise great at this price point.

seems like a bogus saving as the quoted RRP's are inflated and availability on the spacegrey is a week and the others a month. i think you'll be able to buy the same price or cheaper in a month or two?

the coming soon huawei mate 8 also looks tempting..

  • Im confused, if i buy this do i then have to wait until the company then gets them in stock, then a further wait for when they send them out?

    • That is correct. It's preorder.

      • Realistically, if ordered now what would be the expected time frame that this item will arrive in? I'll be venturing overseas early in the new year and it might be a better option to buy closer to China.

        • After stock has arrived the processing time will be up to a week and express shipping is typically 3-5 days with TNT, but it will likely take longer due to the holidays.

        • @Clear:

The status is still on 'processing' for me. Do you think that it's possible for me to receive it before the end of this year?

        • @bluggort: No sorry. The next batch is arriving on the 31st.

        • @Clear:
Great, so I also have the exact same problem as @crackermo …

        • @bluggort: Unfortunately Xiaomi only allocate several hundred units for every batch.

        • @Clear:
I ordered mine pretty early (05/12/15) and I thought I'd receive it before Christmas, or at least before the end of the year. Oh well, there's nothing I can do now but wait. Thanks for the responses though.

        • @bluggort: Downside of it being posted on every bargain site out there.

  • What is the chance of this being riddled with malware?

    • A lot of marketplaces often have trouble with suppliers. But I am sure Clear will happily provide some easy instructions on how to flash a stock rom.
