  • My Giganews just got renewed at USD$30 this morning, I forgot to cancel it. Is ThunderNews any good? I used Internode's usenet for years but ended up getting broken files beyond repair. I've been with Giganews for 6 months and at least this server tells me when a file is corrupt.

As with most news group providers, they must comply with take down requests. Luckily if this service is married with a decent indexer and an automated program, most complete successfully if they are grabbed as soon as they are available. Older files are an issue. Pair with a different block provider group and it is rare that files fail. Thundernews is part of the highwinds group.

      • Cheers mate, I'll try this one as well. I need a backup as Giganews has no episodes of Limitless available.

:EDIT: When I meant "forgot to cancel (Giganews)", I meant I was on a 50% 3-month plan which expired, so I got charged double technically.

    • So far so good; been using it for the past 2+ years

  • Thunder news is good but if you hit around 1tb a couple of times they will slow your speeds right down and deny it

    • I have heard and read of this happening but have never had an issue. I have been with them for 2 years.

pretty happy with my $35 usenetbucket 10Mbit yearly fee (with their current 25% off black friday deal)…if you're happy with a slightly slower/cheaper alternative

    • sold! thank you sir!!

      • no problem
Been using them since last black friday and for the price I can't fault them as my main account
As they are a xnews supplier their takedowns are probably slightly worse than some others, but its only the rare files I havent managed to get, so this year's black friday sales im looking to also get a block account somewhere to go along side it

        • may I ask which usenet binary providers you buy access to?

        • @spinferno:

for the last 12 months I've only used
usenetbucket - 365 day basic bucket (10Mbit) via 25% black friday deal
xsusenet - free 1Mbit back account (needs 're-activating' monthly) as a 'backup' account

thats worked pretty well over the last year, but if a decent block deal account pops up i'll add that as a backup account for something better than xsusenet's freebie

        • @SBOB:
          Dude, you are a legend.
Thank you for letting me pick your brain re: usenet stuff.

  • I've been using usenet through thundernews for a couple of years now and have found that the quality of the latest releases as degraded. Great for older stuff but the newest stuff is dodgy (like videos that do not open or incomplete files altogether). Have you guys experienced the same? I'm using SABNZBD and NZBCLUB.
