Neither irrelevant nor completely relevant, my google account is a US one, which I frustratingly can't change to Australian. This deal is open to both US, AU (and other countries) so that shouldn't be an issue here.

  • Don't think it's working. It does say discount will be added at checkout but I added an album and went to pay and it was still showing the full price of 15.99 :(

    • +1

Yeah not sure how to help you with that. Hopefully others try and we can find out the specifics of how it works. I read the terms and conditions but they provided no insight…

    • Same here. :(

      • Updated description, try applying the coupon.

  • How do you apply the discount? I just bought Adele's album from that link and it charged me full price.

    • +4

Nevermind, you'll find another link like his

    • Updated, description, try the link now

      • +1

Thanks, I ended up getting a refund on the full priced purchase and followed the banner ads for cyber sale on the Play Store and repurchased with 50% off.

    • same just bought 25 for $8

Edit: just requested a refund. To be honest, I've only listened to the first 4 songs and couldnt stand it. The only good song was hello

  • I wonder if those big collections are classed as a 'Single Album'? Wonder if it would work?! For example…

    Led Zeppelin - $78.99 - https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Led_Zeppelin_The_C…
    The Doors - $55.99 - https://play.google.com/store/music/album/The_Doors_The_Comp…
    Billy Joel (?) - $94.99 - https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Billy_Joel_The_Com…
    Paul Simon - $102.99 - https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Paul_Simon_Complet…

    Anyone game to try?

    • I found an Ed Sheeran album "5" which was 5 cds compiled in one album for 28.49$ US, the discount did work for that but I didn't check any others

    • YES, it seems to work! Just Applied the promo as per 'phroghollows' post below (cheers!) and the Paul Simon collection comes down from $102.99 to $51.49… not that I really want the entire Paul Simon back catalogue tho ;)

OK, who knows how to search for the most expensive collections on Google Play?

      • not that I really want the entire Paul Simon back catalogue tho ;)

That's the point of these promotions. Pay first, benefit is immaterial.

    • +2

yes it works just got the doors complete studio albums for $27.99 pay for buy my telstra prepaid recharge credit

      thanks OP.

Good for people who pay for music.
I don't because I am evil but good on others :)

    • +6

I used to be like that. I thought I'd feel bad having paid for things I could get for free but feels good to legally own music now haha

      • I convince myself that I am giving a higher percentage of my $$$ to the artists by paying to see their concert v giving 85% to record labels.

Edit - the first 20 seconds of this.
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fCqr-ki5js

        • I'm sure the artists would actually like you to do both like you are suppose to. It is like sneaking into the concert to watch an artist for free but then going up to them afterwards and giving them a $50 donation because least you know they are getting 100% of your money right????

        • @serpserpserp:

VERY TRUE. I had never thought of it that way before.

        • -1

          @Beethoven:

Exactly. Who are we to decide that their arrangement with the record labels is a poor one for them? They might make less money % wise but whatever arrangement they entered into with the label was 100% their choice. Nobody put a gun to their head.

      • Good on you

Just wondering, how about if you pay for album whose artist already dead?
The money not going to charity but to big-fat-rich production company

        Just saying

    • Use Google Rewards?

      • +1

I am paying for it with my google rewards credit which is free. Does that make me good?

        • Paying = paying = paying.

If there is an opportunity cost then you paid. You are using the rewards for this not for something else = you paid :)

      • If that was for me I don't have any. Music for me =
        1. Search youtube for the song
        2. Youtubetomp3.com
        3. Download

        Done!
        Cost = $0.00
Beethoven's moral standing - Currently negative 2,653 songs

    • +2

I probably balance out your evil because I have digital versions of albums, vinyl versions (standard, picture disc, Japanese etc.) plus CD versions (again, often multiple) as well as Japanese mini-LP CD's or SHM versions. Some albums I also have the pre-recorded cassette (yes, I'm a bit of a mad collector). In one case I have 11 versions of the same album. Yep, more money than sense.

      • Yayyyyy!!! Thank you :)

  • There's no way to remove the drm from Google play music right?

    • +1

If you don't mind one generational loss, you can use a program like Audials One to record the output. It installs a virtual sound card and records the decoded audio data digitally.

    • +4

When you buy albums, you can just download the MP3s: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1250232?hl=en

      • Ah I see. Movies are unable to be downloaded from Google play, as well as some books.what gives?

        • They have DRM but you can download movies and books you bought or rented from Google Play… Like if you have shitty internet and don't want to stream it.

        • @MrMcHairyHead: can't see the option to download a movie I bought

  • +2

Time to get that justin bieber album

  • +2

You can also pay for the album with your rollover Telstra prepaid recharge credit.

  • triple j 40 years of music - 80 songs $12.50 - sweet

  • I may finally buy something on Google Play..

  • Just putting a suggestion out there, why not make multiple google accounts and get multiple discounts. Add all the accounts to one device and there you go. 50% off a lot more then only one album.

    • +2

Because you'd have to log out and log on different accounts for each album…In theory it'd work, but it's not really worth the hassle in my opinion

      • Pretty sure you can add multiple accounts to one device (phone,tablet/won't work on PC) and it let's you play from all accounts.

  • +1

Used my $30 Telstra credit from the $8 starter pack. 80 songs from JJJ

All you cool kids bragging about not paying for music.

No wonder pop music is so pathetic.

The Beatles used to be pop music… Now we have miley cyrus molesting stripper poles.

    • -1

Don't you mean wrecking balls? *Hides in shame *

    • -1

Piracy has been around since private recording became possible

      • yeah but it was confined to trading nerds- now every mum, dad, kid, grandma and their dog can do it with the click of a button.

        massive difference.

        • Anyone can do it with a cassette player… Movies are of course another story though

  • +2

Thanks OP. Bought "I Love You, Honeybear".

    • +1

That is one of the cutest things I have seen all year.

  • +1

For those huge Nirvana fans you can pick up the Nevermind (Super Deluxe Edition) at 50% for $25.49 (4 disc)or the In Utero (Super Deluxe) (3 disc) for $24.99.

Smashing Pumpkins 5 disc version of Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness is also on there discounted @ 50% for $34.99.

Balance 019 - Mixed By Henry Saiz - was also a surprise to see on google play - it is a steal at 50% for $6.49!

  • So you pay $$$$ for what is in effect compressed mp3? Or have I got this wrong. Can you then burn a CD from it? The least quality that I'd pay for is a flac file. I saw someone here suggest that $6.50 was a great price for a CD, can you order a physical CD or was it metaphorical as in someone taping a TV show, when they really mean they're going to record it digitally.

I'm really not up on Google Music.

    • +1

320kbps AFAIK. Not quite FLAC, but certainly listenable.

      • +1

        Thanks.

    • +2

Most people couldn't tell the difference between a 320kbps MP3 and a FLAC if I played it to them on any system. I'd challenge you to a blind test if I knew you in person. I am a person that goes for HQ anything on audio if I can, but even I couldn't tell (back when I had all my hearing capacity!)

  • Do a keyword search using "collection" and search under "album" category. Plenty of multi disc purchases, although multi discs usually means the singer/ group is of certain age to be able to churn out multi songs/ albums.

I purchased Michael Jackson's 8 discs collection. There are also Massive Attack but those are singles though.

    Good luck!

    • 'anthology' is also another good one to search

  • +1

Thanks OP, picked up the Ryan Adams - Live at Carnegie Hall album for $28

    • Glad to help!

  • +1

    Radiohead 5 album set $11.99

  • I think there is a similar deal with tv shows, where you can get 30% off any single season of a show of your choice.

  • +1

anyone else not able to search via pc?

tried a couple of browsers and same problem.

    hmmm.

    • Yep same here.

    • Hasn't affected me, is there a search bar there?

  • +1

If you want to redeem using your Telstra credit (i.e. using the mobile app), find your album and click 'Buy' then the dropdown arrow and put the coupon in 'Redeem'. I don't think you have to click the above link or anything else to use it this way. Thanks for the coupon OP!

  • +1

Just picked up Incubus: The Collection, 6 complete albums for $14.49 great deal.

  • Nice spot, OP. Also works on UK accounts, I just clicked the banner ad in the Play Store on my device.

Picked up Kings of Leon: Only By The Night for nothing too when I was looking around the Store. Old album but can't say no to free.

  • Thanks OP.
Bought 101 ultimate aussie hits for $9.
