About New Oriente
New Oriente is one of the oldest coffee growing regions in Guatemala. In the 1980s, responding to the increasing demand for specialty coffee, the region took off. One of Guatemala’s poorest and most isolated areas historically, the region is now growing rapidly and small estates are beginning to cultivate coffee across the entire region. New Oriente is cloudy and rainy in climate, similar to Coban. Located over what was once a volcanic range, its soil is made from metamorphic rock. This makes it balanced in minerals and very different from Guatemala’s volcanic regions, which have all seen volcanic activity since coffee was first planted.

El Salvador San Emilio
Origin El Salvador
Altitude 1200-2000m
Varietal 100% Bourbon
San Emilio Estate is one of the larger plantations in El Salvador, and a bit of a jewel in the crown for the Cafeco group. The plantation itself is amazingly close to the city of San Salvador (you could almost visit on a day trip from LAX), and is nestled in the “Cordillera Del Balsamo” mountain range towering up to 1500mtrs above sea level.
San Emilio has an amazing 360degree view across most of El Salvador including of all of the 7 volcanoes & on the day I visited you could see the coast (just)! The plantation boasts one of the highest elevation wet mills in Central America, is almost 100% heirloom Bourbon varietal, with a few small trial lots of Pacama and Red Icatu. Driving around the plantation is a truly amazing experience, rugged mountains, mist filled valleys, huge shade trees and wildlife of all sorts … stunning!
The San Emilio coffees we buy are all pulped natural & 100% bourbon varieties; so the result is sweetness you can lick your lips on. The coffee is dense, take a while to master on the roaster but the result is worth the trials.
The S.E.E Bourbon is perfect for espresso either as a single or major component to a blend, add some Brazil for more depth or some more acid coffees for a lighter style.

Ah, I just bought new beans last week!
Love these beans, can't recommend Manna enough! :)

    • Thanks Dave, great to hear that you've been enjoying the coffee :-) Have a great weekend!

Just ordered some. Hopefully its good.
Like that its in smaller bags - Probably only use 250-300g a week. The bags should last a few weeks without tasting weird right?

    • +1

Sure thing :-) 3-4 weeks at it's freshest and then the more subtle flavour profiles will start to drop off eventually leaving something similar to supermarket coffee.

Some people freeze unopened bags if keeping longer term but we recommend drinking quicker haha

I just finished my last batch of the Brazil Ruby Cerrado.
That bean makes an excellent cold immersion brew in my Brewover.

What are the roasts like on the other beans? Are there some good light roasts more suited to cold drip?

    • Brazilians are our pick of the bunch for cold immersion when adding milk or milk and sugar. Very chocolatey Yum!

Cold drip needs a light roast and really shows off the more unique coffees. Some of my personal favourites are Kenya Wamuguma, Ethiopia Mormora Naturals, Ethiopia Guji Sidamo, Indonsesian Lake tawar, Indonesian Nihuti, and of course any of the geisha range :-)

The Indo in this bunch is a lighter roast and the cedro and Brazil are medium so will still be nice as filter but if you really want coffee to shine for the Brewover or filter then a dedicated lighter roast on some coffees would be better

Feel free to leave a note requesting filter if possible coffees and I can try my best if I happen to have some spare at that time of packing but I can't guarantee it. Also some of the higher end singles for filter can be quite a bit more expensive to us
