MOD NOTE FROM PREVIOUS BARGAIN:

Please read the warnings about buying lock picks in Australia. It appears that it is not illegal to buy them in Australia (although you might have problem importing from overseas shops). Owning them is okay as well. However as with carrying them, you need to be either a lock smith, or be able to produce reasonable explanation, i.e. try not to carry them around.

Our note:

We provide these items legally, but you need to be aware of the law governing possession of such items. Our guide (https://www.pickpals.com.au/guide/) links to a document by the Sentencing Council of Victoria which outlines it very well, read from page 17 onwards.

We recommend using these for hobbyist/locksport purposes within your own home only and on locks you legally own but are not in use. Additionally picking your front door lock is not a smart idea as you may damage or break the lock causing extreme inconvenience.

We actually started this business after we couldn't find quality tools in Australia.

PickPals is now number 1 for Lock Picks Australia and we continue to sponsor the lock sport community around Australia.

Still unsure about the sport…. check out http://toool.us/

"Rogues knew a good deal about lock-picking long before locksmiths discussed it… If a lock is not so inviolable as it has hitherto been deemed to be, surely it is to the interest of honest persons to know this fact, because the dishonest are… certain to apply the knowledge practically… the spread of the knowledge is necessary to give fair play to those who might suffer by ignorance."

          @pickpals:

Yeah whatever. I'm sure drug dealers have a similar spiel.

  • +2

Can I pay for these with my neighbors stolen goods?

  • +7

    Guys,

@ PickPals we are here to support the lock sport community. Lock Picking and Lock sports is a sport enjoyed by 1000s of people around the world and there is a large following in Australia & New Zealand.

There is a strict code we follow as lock pickers, outlined on our website. Of course we do not encourage illegal activity of any form.

It takes skill and patience to learn and practise lock picking, not something criminals have :)

    • So a cop gets you with possession on your way to a locksport event? Then what?

      • +3

Show him your Aussie Lock Pickers Club Card.

Otherwise, couldn't you get out of the handcuffs and police car anyway with your mad skills?

        • Doubt cops would let you keep them after they cuff you. Even the dumbest ones know that.

Another card to carry, in off chance of arrest. Like they'll care anyway.

So seriously, why bother owning them if they're illegal?

        • +1

@adamren: The rules do vary, however in your own home there is no issue. If you are caught on the street with Picks, balaclava and are being a general douche, then maybe you deserve to be arrested.

I take mine to different events and of course we import them. We have no issues.

    I just use bobby pins…..

      and a screwdriver

      • +2

        pfft… rookies.

McGyver taught me how to do it with a rubber band and a hairbrush.

        • +3

I believed Mythbusters disproved the science behind McGyver's methods

        • +2

          @BlackVY:

Hollywood and TV not being exactly accurate? I daren't believe it!

        • +2

@BlackVY: if he can show me a video of that ill send him a free set :)

        • @BlackVY:

          What?

          You mean… McGyver… wasn't…. real?!?!
I'm shocked and dismayed that a fictional television show made for entertainment is not scientifically accurate and should not be relied upon.

I…. I….. don't know where I'll ever learn anything ever again.

    Any comparison to these ones?

      Hi Mal

These are Chinese Picks. We only sell high quality picks, most of ours are made in the US. There is a big difference in quality especially when it comes to the sensitivity needed to feel the pins within the lock.

Wow, what a boring video. haha

Offer 2 url does not work.

  • +2

    OP.

For my benefit ( and possibly others ) is it harder to pick say a $200 ABUS padlock versus a $30 Lockwood?

    • +3

IME, depending on the exact model, there's some difference but they both yield with time.
Thing is, your average crim isn't going to bother picking a lock when there's about a brazillion other quicker ways to do it with power tools, cutters or hydraulics.

All of a sudden I want to play Skyrim again…

    • +3

You could play Fallout instead :p

  • Any one have any idea which pick gun would be best?

    • Hi @Sihorrih

All our Pick Guns are top quality made in the US.

We have the basic starting at the BGP 10 or the new BGP 25. They do the same thing however the 25 hits the pins twice for every click for faster entry. Pretty impressive tool and comes in a great case. The sparrow Gun works on the same principle of the double tap, has a solid build and comes in a hardcase. Really it will come down to price :)

      • +1
