P&O South Pacific Cruise - 30th Nov - 8 Nights - Twin Room - $398pp ($348pp with AMEX) via Ozcruising

790

Hey guys,

8 Night Cruise to the South Pacific from Sydney to Noumea, Lifou and Mare in New Caledonia for just under $400. Great deal. Not sure if meals are included, maybe someone can let us know? Edit: Meals included! Damn, that's good.

With the Amex rebate cost is $696.00 for your twin room, or $43.5 per night, it's even cheaper. That's cheaper than my extremely cheap Sydney rent.

If i didn't have that pesky work thing to do, I'd be all over this.

Itinerary
30 November Sydney
01 December At Sea
02 December At Sea
03 December Noumea, New Caledonia
04 December Lifou, New Caledonia
05 December Mare, New Caledonia
06 December At Sea
07 December At Sea
08 December Sydney

Why post it if every single category says sold out?

    • +6

If you look at the twin category, you'll see that rooms are still available.

      • +9

Apologies, i think it is time to go to bed for me.

  • +5

All meals are included on P&O cruises so this is a cracking deal. See here for all inclusions on P&O cruises https://www.pocruises.com.au/plan/know-before-you-buy/whats-…

    • Nice find Coastie! Post updated.

      • Is it from Sydney ? How about ex Melbourne ?

    • Meals in the main restaurant and the buffet are included. Worth noting that these two are not open 24 hours. Meals (and coffee) in the other half dozen restaurants, the cafes and places like the ice cream shop are not included. No drinks are included and they are at nightclub prices everywhere on the boat.

  • +1

The food is crampon this floating caravan park. If there is a salt restaurant on board, you can eat there fir $50aud pp, not inc drinks. It's brilliant. Too bad the boat will be full iof bogans. But if u r going to go with this cruise line, this is a good deal. Expect very high prices on the islands. We were shocked by ciffee prices in a local cafe with no wifi on noumea.

    • +1

We were shocked by ciffee prices in a local cafe with no wifi on noumea.

do you drink milk in your coffee?

    • Everything in Noumea is awful, so never mind the lack of wifi. The salt restuarant onboard is worth every cent, it was awesome.

      • Except this awesome bakery near the place we stayed =D

  • missed out on the deal pacific dawn 21/11. hoping pacific aria 30/11 will drop further in price.

  • extremely tempting

  • Anyone knows if I choose not to disembark during one of the destination and stay on board the whole time, do I still have to satisfy the entry requirement of that jurisdiction?

    • Yes, Yes you do. Visa fees and all.

    • it's included in your fare, so your choice.

  • +2

All food included, just make sure you're not one to get sea sick, high tide almost ruined our last trip when the partner couldn't get out of bed

    • 99.99% of the time you would not know you are at sea. Most that get seasick talk themselves into it, they are a lot more stable than the local ferry service.
For a first time cruiser I would recommend taking a Quell (cheap at chemists) first time out. Rare that they would need to take a second one once they get their sea legs.

      • +2

I've done a couple of cruises out of Sydney and both times the waves were rough the first day coming out of Sydney (but otherwise fine the rest of the trip). But one of them left the night the Pasha bulk cruiser grounded into Nobby's Beach (June '07)… So that might have been an exception! Walking through the cabin corridors in 10m waves = this

        • +2

I actually like it when the sea is rough… more ride for the money lol.

      • +1

Would not know you're at sea? Seriously? You can feel it!!

I agree that sea sickness is not an issue for most, especially with qwells.

        • Yes, seriously…

      • "talk themselves into it" come on mate I've usually got quite a stable stomach but even I felt like I wanted to stay in bed during that rough period, the tablets probably help but you can barely walk straight when it's rough at sea (we were on the Pacific Pearl if that makes a difference)

        • +1

Done it 6 times and none of us have ever felt the slightest bit seasick. Last one was for 30 days :-)
Some people get motion sickness more than others, car, bus , train. There are many reasons for it…

      • +2

This is a myth often propagated by people who don't get severe travel sickness to start with, lucky travelers, and even cruise lines themselves. Sailing out of the Tasman Sea is notoriously well known to get rough at times.

On my P&O cruise you couldn't walk straight most of the first 4 days (you would constantly catch your footing as if on a balance board). Unless ship balancing mechanisms have miraculously improved over the last couple of years I assume significant rocking is still possible. You can't just constantly look out to the horizon for a 100 hour journey either.

Kwells can cause extreme sleepiness in some individuals so a person might want to evaluate their personal side-effects beforehand. It's a looong trip.

        • +1

We took ONE Kwell on our first cruise and have never had to take another one since.
Some people are greatly affected by motion sickness (car/bus/train/ferry/plane) and most are not.
I prefer a bit of rough weather, especially in the pool when it washes back and forth. Love to have fun.. nearing 70 now so why not!! :-) :-)
Neighbour wont go on a cruise or a plane because they ALL sink or crash. Cant please everyone :-)

        • @xywolap: I'm not sure why you're getting so defensive but I am fine on boats, planes and ferries. Hours on end of rocking did make me feel queasy. I know of a fair few others in the same boat (pun intended)
All I'm saying is for people to be cautious about it, and consider that if you do get sick, whatever the ship has to offer is irrelevant when youre spewing in your rooms toilet bowl

  • Good deal, love to go but no one to go with, $800 to much for just me :-(

    • +4

Even at $800 for a twin room all to yourself it is still cheap.

    • +3

$100/day for all food and entertainment. Not too bad!

    • +1

Find someone on the boat, how many single rooms are there?

      • +1

Huh, how does that work? It's not a ferry.

  • +2

Under $50 a day for all you can eat, entertainment, travel, pools etc…. No need to spend another cent for the entire trip, cheaper than living ashore.

    • +1

      drinks?

      • +8

Tea, coffee, water is free and usually avail 24 hrs. Specialty coffees in the coffee places is not free.
I prefer Princess cruises and we had free ice creams, hamburgers, (the best) pies, pizzas, etc. When the movies started at night on the deck they came around with free hot popcorn, cookies etc.
This was on top of the massive range of succulent offerings at the buffet all day every day & most of the night plus the 5 star dining available for B,L & D in the dining room every day. All for free.
Nothing comes close to a cruise on a good ship for holiday value. Not good for the waistline though… BURP !!

        • +1

Nice saying. Very tempting. Just need a trip companion!

      • Alcoholic drinks are very expensive and you cannot take any of your own onboard. You can take a limited number of cans of softdrink onboard (12 cans pp, no bottles, must be packed loose), but the softdrinks sold on the ship are also very expensive. They will try to (over)charge you for bottled water as well, but the stuff from the taps is quite drinkable. You cannot take bottled water onboard at the originating port. The "free" coffee is that muck from a vending machine, teabags, hot water and (usually) longlife milk are available most of the time.

        • Not sure what ship you experienced bazza but on the 3 princess ships I have been on the tap water is perfect. The drinks were about half the shore price. Unless policy has changed Princess had no objection to you bringing your own wine aboard.
The free coffee, tea was fine. You can always go to coffee shops onboard if you prefer boutique coffee styles.
Nothing wrong with long life milk… it comes from cows.

        • +1

@xywolap:long life would be fine, if you had never had fresh

    • No tips to pay?

      • +1

On the 3 Australian ships (Dawn, Sun & Sea Princess) no tips are mandatory. I think aust based p&o ships are the same setup. You do still reward good service though like you do ashore.

Cruise lines all avoid being clear on what is FREE and what is not… for obvious reasons. Usually you only have to pay for alcohol, soft drinks, specialty dining and spa services.

  • +3

    Noumea, lol.

  • +3

P&O is Australian, which means not only is food included, but also taxes.

Still should 'tip' the service staff at the end, but completely optional.

Food at the 'upper echelons in dining' are not included, but standard restaurants and buffet are all included. Drinks are not.

  • +1

    We all live in hope.

Not so sure that the cast was the one I recall. reruns, or remake.

In any event it is just a very good promotion.

  • +2

Nothing to do with this deal, but if you go to the ozcruising website and search for other cruises, then the drop down menu has all the Australian ports in one section, Adelaide, Brisbane etc and then all the foreign ports like Singapore etc in the remainder.

Someone needs to carefully explain to them that Fremantle really IS in Australia!

  • +2

Love to find one leaving from Port Melbourne eary next year at same price

  • +1

Sold out only $999 TWIN left

  • +3

This should be bargain of the month, if not the year?

    • +3

      Yet you haven't even voted.

    • The one I posted earlier was the same price but an extra night, less votes. Go figure?

  • Bugger…sold out

  • +1

Can someone that's been on a cruise tell me the attraction. What do you actually do on said cruise?

    • +1

Its like anything… it may not be everyones cup of tea. Some go for the cheap booze, the fantastic food, the casino, the entertainment, etc etc etc etc.
There is a website called You Tube… take a hop over there and take a look at some of the thousands of cruise videos.
Cruising can be anything you want it to be… wild parties and non stop fun or quiet as a convent, it is that varied.
What things do you like doing??

      • What things do you like doing??

        Washy, Washy! Happy, Happy!

      • I'm aware of youtube, no need to be facetious. It's currently raining where I live so between now and about the next week I won't have any form of internet speed anywhere near "youtube" levels. I'd like to thank copper and living about 8km away from the exchange.

I did google it and read text based webpages, but the bulk of the pages that I found were talking about off ship activities. I was specifically wondering the attraction of the ship cruise itself. Because if it's just the location, why not take a plane?

Now having read your comment it appears to be food, gambling and entertainment. I'm not into gambling, so that now leaves the food and entertainment. I'll have to find out what these involve to see if I give a crap about them.

Or like wait a week until the ground dries out and I can use the internet again. Thank you copper!

    • +4

I've done three, two solo, one with the ex.
Pros: You can do nothing as much you want, you can sit and watch the waves slide by while you read a book, you can listen to a band, watch a cooking demo, swim in the pool, sunbake, watch a show, there is always something to do, lots of different foods to try, you only unpack the once, and you get to go to other countries without having to fly.

Cons: I don't like toilets that go whoosh lol Didn't get much sleep on the last night because of the little darlings in the room above me. If the weather is rough it can get choppy and unpleasant. Some other passengers are real twats.

overall, I do recommend it, it's a great way to get away and really not have to do anything, no cooking, no cleaning, no worrying.

      • Bit the bullet, pulled out the phone jumped on 4G and watched a few videos. Looked like cruising doesn't really interest me. All the stuff that you do on a cruise I do at home anyway! Cheers though.

  • +1

So good price $349 pp - Paid Royal Caribeen $1400 pp on same route for 8 nights, but balcony room.

  • Very tempting but can't quite line this up unfortunately.

If anyone goes, please report share your experiences when you get back!

  • Is there anyway I can take two toddlers using this deal?

  • IS this no longer available? Unable to see the same prices.

    • Seems like more more rooms are available. $1 increase though from $398 to $399

      • I don't actually see the prices, i see $498 unfortunately :( I wanted to send my parents off!! haha

        • +2

It was $399 yesterday and may return to that price just keep an eye on it, the ozcruising prices really fluctuate.

  • +4

Bargain price. I've just returned from a cheaper deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217949) and I still try to go back to my happy place on that cruise.
I'm not sure why that post got a third of the votes of this one but whatever…

Honestly, people will whinge about P&O and the food but I have serious questions about their right to be on ozbargain.

The buffet and Waterfront restaurant food was exceptional most times. The fresh fruit and salads were all extremely fresh, as were the pastries, not old and stale / tasteless as I'd have expected for this price. Breakfast was your usual cereals and the hot choice had eggs as good as any 4* hotel buffet plus a french toast or pancakes. Honestly we were spoiled for choice and sitting out on deck with the sea around you having your meal is quite surreal. Alternatively you can sit at the Waterfront restaurant, have table service and avoid the craziness of the buffet (ok, no crazier than navigating George Street's paths in Sydney).

There is NO tipping expected or forcibly included.

I bought the soft drink package at $7/day because I love my soft drinks (including tonic water and ginger ale) and it's nice to have something to drink that doesn't cost too much as you sit and watch the sunset. The alcohol package, unlimited drinks covering just about all cocktails etc, is $79/day and so I think very expensive, and in the early part of the cruise people were obviously trying to get their money's worth. Later on there were only a handful of guys, Bra Boys or similar, that were keeping up with the commitment to drink all day.

It was our first cruise, and as a family with two young kids I can't imagine much better holiday options for the price. None of us were ever at a loose end, the days at sea are totally filled by organised activities and play time with the kids in the pool, or just relaxing with a book on one of the decks or lounges. It's just a wonderful place to relax and bond as a family. Then the islands, particularly Isle of Pines, are seriously places that you wouldn't be able to fly to and spend a single night for less than the cost of the entire cruise, they are incredibly beautiful places and the snorkelling was second to none.

The ONLY slight shock for us was the bogan element. Even working in Western sydney I've never seen so many tattoos and there were a handful of 'ferals' (as described by an old lady complaining about them to us!). But having said that, we got used to it really quickly and realised that there were actually, out of 1500 or so people, only two or three groups of them that just had bigger personalities and so were more noticeable than most. But there were many lovely families and distinguished older folk so you really could just avoid that side of things if it bothered you.

I always thought I wasn't a 'cruise person', but after this I'm constantly checking for another cheap fare, especially one like the crazy Royal Caribbean one!

    • Welcome home! Did you get lei'd?

    • Hi Hoju, I always got confused by how they charge for family of 4. How much do they charge for young kids ( mine are 4yo and 7yo), same price as adult or lower? Triple and Quad are sold out, so does that means I would have to book for 2 separate twin rooms? Cheers.

      • +1

Yeh they're full price so we had two twin rooms and wife had one kid and I had the other.

        • Did they give you 2 rooms next to each other?

        • @lang_tu_syd:

We did request it but ended up around the corner. It worked fine though. Not sure if there are adjoining internal rooms on P&O?

For what it's worth the class IF listed on the website for the cheap fares was what we booked and it said it was deck 5 way down. We ended up getting booked into a fantastic spot on deck ten

        • +1

          @Hoju:

Thanks Hoju, because of the deal you posted, I booked for my parent and 2 of their friends for their first ever cruise trip, 12 nights to PNG. It was a bit more expensive but they enjoyed it and I'm happy. They also got booked into Deck 11 of the Pacific Jewel which is quite nice. Cheers.

        • +1

          @lang_tu_syd:

Fantastic! The Jewel is a better ship than the pearl I think, though I was really happy with the pearl. This site has been awesome in so many ways, glad they enjoyed their trip :)
