When is the expiry date for this offer, do I need to sign up by today?
    Michael
It will end on the 31 of December 2015. :)
    Roman
Specifically regarding the apple music promotion
    Michael
    Oh.
    Michael
For the Apple Music, it will end tomorrow.
    Roman
Ok so if I sign up today, will I still be eligible?
    Michael
Absolutely. Today is your last chance. :)
    Roman
So just to confirm, if I sign up online today, but don't receive the SIM till tommorrow, I will still be
    OK
    Roman
    ?
    Michael
That is right. For as long as you sign up on the date the promotion is valid, you don't have to
    worry.

  • Thanks, OP. I've been wanting to switch from Optus to Telstra out of spite and I was just waiting for a good deal like this to come along.

  • Thanks guys finally changed from Telstra Cap Encore. I was also told I could get the $200 welcome credit when I transferred over from Prepaid! As well as the 12 months free apple music.

    • How did you convince them to give you the deal considering you are an existing customer?

  • +2

Meanwhile, existing Telstra customers (suckers like me) pay $70/mo for my 2.5gb iPhone plan.

    FML

    • +2

Yah. My wife has 1gb and iPhone 6 for $88 pm. I've realised that Telstra screws you on contracts with a phone. Better of buying outright (or interest free) and going on Byo I am not associated with Telstra. Somehow it's checked and won't let me d check it

      • That's why I never sign up for plans…Better buy headset and then get separate sim.

  • +2

Well just got off the chat with Telstra, and was told that it is only the 24 month Apple Music which expires tonight, the 12 month offer with this BYO does does not expire tonight, so there's no rush to sign up.

  • Just ported out from Telstra $55 Medium plan offering 3.5gb. Plan expires April so paying $140 Early termination Fee.
Went with the Optus $2.00 plans, paid for 2 days of usage. Number worked within 5 minutes of doing the port.
Going to sign up tomorrow with Telstra again and will get the $200 credit too, which will cover my ETF.
Got told Apple Music doesnt expire for a while so no rush to sigh up!!

    Thanks so much OP!

    • how did you go?

      • Doing this after work. Will let you know!

        • Thanks!

        • @mparf: Thanks, will be doing this tomorrow. Wasn't the bonus data 4.5gb?

        • +1

          @mikey31:

          Go Mobile Plan 2.5 + bonus 2.5 + bonus 2= 7

        • +1

          @mikey31:

LMK how it goes for you.

Bonus 4.5 ontop of the 2.5 so 7 in total!

        • +1

@mparf: Ended up getting lucky! Went on the chat to get them to confirm me cancelling my contract and re-signing up would qualify me for the bonus data and credit, they ended up switching my contract over to the new plan with just the bonus data.

  • +4

Glad you guys like this special :) Just remember, you have to submit your order online to get this deal.

    • +2

Awesome deal. First time i have said that about Telstra in a long time

    • Gerdschenkel: You can definitely confirm that the Apple Music 12 month bonus doesn't expire tonight, and that it's only the 24 month one which does? It has been confirmed by a couple of reps on the online chat, but just want to triple check to make sure!

    • +2

The only problem is existing Telstra customers have to port to Optus then back to Telstra to get the deal. I think there are many long term Telstra customers who find this…… frustrating.

I just want the data, keep the $200 credit. But no, that can't be done. So now it will cost Telstra $200 in credit.

      • +3

I've always made the assumption that Telstra make more moneyfoff people who make no changes than keeping customers satisfied through offers off retention. They don't give a stuff about customer loyalty.

        • It's because they got most of those people on contract… As a pre paid customer I do not feel like that at all.

  • -8

Can I redeem the $1,000 worth of unused phone calls for cash?

  • Not sure if this was answered previously, im with aldi can i sign up and still get the welcome credit or have to port out to optus before signing up?

  • Does anyone know if Telstra bills by the kb or the mb? I tried asking the question 3 or 4 different times on 24 / 7 chat and they couldn't answer it for me. Can't find anything on the CIS either

  • Am I a new customer?

I have a telstra landline, internet and several prepaid accounts…

I have a prepaid optus SIM that I got purposely for this offer (LOL)… so am I new?

  • If Telstra allowed the use of the included credit for international calls like their prepaid Freedom Plus offer, I'd jump on this with my eyes closed.

Telstra are the only ones left out of the big 3 with no decent offers on IDD calls…rates on Freedom Plus are decent on the $50 recharge, but others like Optus and Voda now offer several hundred minutes on some post-paid plans for IDD…

    • +1

I was thinking the same thing but then I realised that I use Whatsapp, Google Hangouts and Viber more often than traditional IDD. So even though I would prefer IDD calls included its not as big a deal breaker than first thought.

  • -2

    Did I miss this? Can't see $50 for 7gb

    • +1

The M plan it says the bonus under the big 2.5GB, hard to miss.

    • In byo only plans not with phone

Just received an email saying "Unfortunately, we can't authenticate the information you've provided through our online shop"

After a long chat with their 'control group' they've said that in order for the application to be continued I need to go in store and provide 100 points of authentication plus letter of employment/3 recent payslips.

I'm a new customer trying to port to telstra from virgin. I'm being told that all new telstra customers need to be verified but none of this bullshit was on the application at all - not sure if I've been flagged for some reason or he's telling the truth.

EDIT - I had chatted with sales yesterday to make sure my details with the application were correct - not once was a identity check mentioned. The email I received was a notification of the cancellation, nothing about an ID check. Wasn't until I called to ask whats up and spoke to Ted from credit management who said I need to go the whole 9 yards at my local telstra store to push through my application. Insisted he had no link with the application team which reviews applications, and "most" new customers must go through this, and for a deal which is primarily aimed at new customers this isn't mentioned once! Im in my twenties employed, ~20k credit limit on credit cards, no history of bad credit.

    Absolutely no transparency

    • +1

Disappointing, just got the same email. Happy to provide supporting docs but there's no option in the online form in the first place…

    • So I just went through the same process and went into my Telstra store in a bit of a huff and puff with the documents. The manager, Toby, was absolutely fantastic. He had it sorted out for me without having to provide all the extra documents within 20 mins. I physically got my sim and the data share sim and my service was activated less than 5 mins after that.

    • Once i got to my local telstra store I figured that the control group was the fraud division. And in my case I had been flagged because I created 2 applications even though this was at the advisement of a sales rep because the service I selected in the first one was incorrect. The manager was great help and told me that it could be a bunch of criterias within their business controls (e.g. name, age - and is seperate from a 'credit check') that set off this procedure…

Still had to provide all the documents, the manager spoke to the credit management team for about 20 mins and eventually had the flag on my account removed. The manager was unable to approve my order having exhausted all his options and 2 hours of time, eventually advised me to just create another application online.

Finally received an email with the tracking details this morning

    • How many days after you submitted your application did you get this email? Did you keep getting texts from Telstra to reconfirm your driving licence details?

      • I got the email the morning after I submitted the application. Nope, no texts only the one email.

  • Just got my shipped email! Exciting times.

    • How long did it take for you to get thi? I've been waiting for 3 days and my order still has not been processed. Calling up Telstra doesn't help either as they say there's nothing they can do to speed up the processing team.

  • +1

Just signed up as well. Was in Telstra prepaid earlier.

Bought a $2 Optus Sim card from 7/11 (50% off at the moment!! Bargain alarm!), switched over which took about 2mins and just completed my order with the $200 bonus. Good deal :)

  • Add another to the 'just signed up' bandwagon. Transfered to Vodafone from Boost, and just signed up online. Now to await my new sim card!

    • did you just sign up to a vodaphone prepaid $2 sim then port back again

      • Yup. Bought a Vodafone $2 prepaid at Coles, activated and ported my number to Vodafone from Boost. Confirmed number was working on my Vodafone sim. Then completed the online purchase with Telstra just now, asking to port from Vodafone to Telstra, and should hopefully have my new sim card Tuesday or Wednesday.

        • nice work :-)

I'm currently with telstra but out of contract

So if I do what you did that should work?

          Thanks

        • +1

          @tith:

May work, but not 100% sure. The 'new customer' thing is quite vague as to how they determine it. Others seem to have conflicting advice based on what they've heard from Telstra. You'd get the data, but the $200 bonus is hard to say as it probably won't show up for a month or two. When you sign up, it lists the bonuses you will get in the email they send you. I've provided mine below:

          Your special offers and discounts

          Bonus Data - 2.5GB
An extra 2.5GB of data per month now yours
Because you took up the BYO M plan with your new device contract, you're now entitled to an extra 2.5GB of data per month for free.

          Bonus Data - 2GB
An extra 2GB of data per month now yours. All to use in Australia.
Offer runs 30 October 2015 to 31 December 2015 unless withdrawn earlier by Telstra.

          $200 Welcome Credit
If you're a new customer & you sign up online, you'll get a $200 credit on your bill when you sign up with us on selected plans.
Offer runs 30 October 2015 to 13 December 2015 unless withdrawn earlier by Telstra.

  • This deal is very tempting, only drawback for me is lack of international calls with the included credits

  • +2

Just confirmed with Chat that Bonus Data is for the lifetime of the plan as per the T&C's.

  • +1

Thanks OP - order confirmed and waiting for my SIM.

  • -1

I found heaps better value in the Optus one, no contract coz why lock in to a telco, unlimited calls here and overseas and 7 GB, it is 10 bucks more but i got a discount off the guy on chat as my internet with them and i got a $90 credit too. Someone beat me to posting it on here but there's a thread

    • -1

So really you are paying $10 more for overseas calls and a far inferior network - well done. Please report to reception and return your OZB badge ASAP.

      • For me same price as I get $10 discount and get about 60 mbps DL at home if that's inferior I'll take it

        • Fair enough… I'd like to point out however that many (most?) have broadband at home and use their mobile data, well, when they are mobile. That's when Telstra trumps all over Optus in most cases.

  • +1

Finally jumped from my $26 Optus (ex Woolworths) plan. I never thought I'd see the day I'd have a 4G plan! Thanks OP.

  • Just to chock another one up — Apple Music is confirmed for this plan still, and the 7GB lasts for as long as you choose to keep the plan even after the 12 months is over.
Gonna roll over to this plan from LC and ride this $33.3/month for the next 12 months and see where things go from there!

  • Can someone please explain to me what's the big deal with Apple music? People on pre-paid have been able to use their recharge credit to subscribe to Google Music for donkeys. Is it that much better? I find it hard to believe (haven't tried it, personally I love Spotify). Unless there was unmetered data like there used to be with MOG…??

    • +3

I don't think people are making a big deal out of it as being some incredible service. More that fact that not only are we getting the $50 plan for $33.33, but we're also getting bonus data for a total of 7GB AND we're getting 12 months of Apple music subscription. Just a nice sweetner to make a great deal even better. Same would apply if we were getting Google music or Spotify as an extra.

  • I'm currently with telstra, on the BYO M plan from a year back. My contract is expiring tomorrow.
What do I need to do to keep my current number, and get on this plan….
Every Time I've even talked to someone online I just get annoyed cause they say they cant do anything.

    • Depends if you want the $200 bonus? If not then an easy way I would think would be to change to Pre-Paid and then sign up for the new plan.

Also might be worth talking with the Sales team directly - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217715?page=1#comment-3163…

      • $200 bonus would be nice! crazy if you dont.

I'll just get a starter sim with optus, and port back

    • +1

Port out to another provider and then back in :)

      • +2

This. Less headaches and time spent trying to explain things to a Telstra rep.

      • are you a new customer if you do this, but still have other telstra accounts, like internet, home phone, etc?

  • If there was international calls I would switch.. however, if you look at it, the other Telcos are catching up now.

    • Personally I don't need it, but nobody is offering 7gb at 33.33. If you need big data this plan makes sense. Then buy €10 voipbuster or any other finarea which will last you at least 3 months.

  • +1

I'm currently on VF's $50 for 10GB but the VF network in my area is no where near as getting any better even though there are constant upgrade each weekend!

    • Well you are paying $5 per gb. Telstra is $4.76 per gb. Do you get free calls etc?

      • Yeah unlimited calls to Australian standard/mobile plus free Australian/International text.

Same as this plan but it's $50 (with a $30 discount) a month with 10GB
        http://www.vodafone.com.au/doc/cis/mobileplans/au11190/augus…

        • Well if you don't need all the calls and data is enough you are better off with telstra…

  • Great deal, thanks!

    Ported from VF today.

  • +1

Got my sim delivered today, wasnt expecting it on a public holiday, and all good except online says my data limit is 5gb. When till it become 7gb? Should I call up?

    • Doesn't sound right to me. I would call up

    • Hi there - I'm happy to follow up to make this clearer. Where did you see the 5GB? MyAccount, 24x7 mobile app, … Thanks.

      • +1

It says 5gb on the 24x7 app. If I login to MyAccount it doesn't list my mobile service (just my home internet bundle), on the app both services are there.

    • +2

Mine also shows 5gb on the Telstra 24x7 App. I've been on LiveChat for the past 50 minutes and have explained the promotion to two different reps who have just repeated themselves ('Our regular Go Mobile BYO $50 plan has 2.5GB data but with our promotion it will be double the data. It means it would be 5GB data every month') even after I've linked them to the promotion on their own website. Urgh.

ETA: Apparently the details of the promotion have not been 'cascaded down' to the two teams that I spoke to. They have raised a ticket, and said they will credit me if I go over by 2gb this month. I'm not holding my breath that it will be added - going by past experiences with Telstra, I'll probably have to follow up on the extra data and the $200 welcome credit.

      • That sucks take screenshots the offer is very clear online

        • You get an email with the order outlining the 7gb so should be fine

  • +1

Does porting from Aldi still qualify for the bonus?

  • Ok so there are still some teething issues. Has anyone been able to take advantage of the Apple Music Subscription? I don't have an iPhone but the website states that I should be able to use it through my PC via itunes. I've been on the phone for about an hour so far to Telstra and now an itunes consultant and no one seems to know how to get it to work

  • +3

I ported my number and my parents numbers over from virgin but have had nothing but trouble since. First of all, my mums ordered was just cancelled for no reason (trip #1 to the telstra store), and I have to go in store to show ID (which I can't do until Saturday due to work). Long story short, My parents phones are now on the $50 BYO plan with no sign of the extra's of the online deal, and my number has been converted to a data share sim, leaving me with no mobile phone until at least Saturday.

I can't remember how many phone calls and online chats I've had. I'm currently trying to sort everything out on the online chat now, but since my mum had to go instore to sort out why her order was cancelled, the order reverted to and in-store order and I'm no longer receiving the $200 welcome credit for any of the three numbers. I've given up on the data share sims. So now I have to make ANOTHER trip to the physical telstra store to try to sort it out, so frustrating,

The whole thing has been a bit of a nightmare to be honest.

  • It says I need a valid credit card to sign up, but will a debit card work?

    • Debit card worked for me

  • How long does telstra usually take to activate? (transferring old number)

  • +2

For some reason my data is showing up as 4.68GB…
Will try and follow it up later but have no idea why it'd be that value.

    • Yep mine too..

      • me too.. let me know how you fixed it

        • In short, the 24x7 chat team don't know why. They were baffled as well because I did everything I was supposed to.
They said the same as the above in regards to waiving the fees if I go over 4.68gb (up to what I should be getting at 7gb).

        • Called telstra this morning and they've rung me back saying that 7gb will be processed onto my account within 48 hours of activation - said something like the account is still processing and everything will be in order once you can view it on my account on the telstra website.

        • +4

I don't know about you guys but my data is still not reading correctly and it's been about 60 hours now

        • @pandaroogoo: for me its still the same, might have to call them up ugh

      • +2

They couldn't correct it and told me to keep an eye out on my data in the next 48hrs to see if it's corrected
