Mission Impossible Quadrilogy Blu-Ray $24.98 @ JB Hi-Fi in-Store (Multiple Locations)

420

Asked staff at the Craigieburn, Victoria store for help finding the set as I didn't want to wait for shipping (and couldn't find it on the shelf).
They came back with this and it scanned at the register with no issues for $24.98.

On the website it's listed at $40! https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on…

Other multidisc sets may be discounted as well. Not confirmed for other stores but I don't think it would be store specific.

(Updated! carterljohn picked it up in Castle Hill for this price.)

No, that will be my reaction if it is. Not a bad deal.

Store specific - just checked Plenty Valley Vic and it was full price at $39.90
Also, it makes sense that they'd be clearing out stock anticipation for the 5-movie set!

Quadrilogy when 4 movies, never heard anyone say quindrilogy though. With the release of MI5 on DVD/BR soon, I have a feeling my curiosity will be satiated…

      The Quintessential Set

    • The correct word is tetralogy. Pentalogy would be five. I guess they just say quadrilogy because it sounds like quadrillion ($) and rhymes with trilogy. But it's dumb :-/

      • Given that "quadrilogy" was first used about 150 years ago, and is now in common usage (as well as being in the Oxford Dictionary) - it's not incorrect. How do you think words become words?

        • You're right in a descriptivist sense - words can become words when ignorance is repeated. My comment related to mattoid532's comment about 'quindrilogy'. Since that word's now been attested too, it's also correct by the same logic.

Tetralogy's surely been in use for hundreds if not thousands of years though, meaning a grouping of four books; pentalogy's likely the same. But I accept that, per descriptivism, these are merely alternatives to more recent cross-lingual portmanteaus like quadrilogy.

I was thinking of getting this during one of there 20% of sales but never did. Since the first three movies only have a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track and they will probably release a new box set including the latest Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation when its released in December.

It was only the Scandanavian releases (Sweden, Finland etc) that got all the movies with a lossless HD audio track.

    • Interesting bit of trivia about the Scandinavian releases — thanks. I wonder why that is though? Is it more common over there to have in-home cinema setups which could make use of the higher sampling rate perhaps?

Picked up the Scandinavian release earlier this year (for about $35 inc shipping) - and yes, the have the lossless HD audio, and 'better' video.

      • says about $18A - and shipping wasn't that much.

I'd recommend this set over the Aussie one !

I bought the MI 'trilogy' before #4 came out.

5 should be out on blu-ray soon, so having a quadrilogy is just going to make you look stupid.
