Title should read $204 plus get $100 eBay voucher. You don't pay $104 for it…

    • -2

      Hear hear.

  • Thanks OP.

Where are the eBay $100 voucher offer details?

  • Thanks, I was thinking the same thing!

Now I need some hard drives to put in there, I can probably get the voucher on those by asking a mate to buy it for me.

    Obsolete model

    • +1

Surely you can pay more for newer models. But for those people who simply wants to stream their media around the house, this is a good basic NAS for it. Mine works perfectly over the years, not a hiccup whatsoever.

      • Of course they will work. I'm just warning those who want to future proof their investment.

      • is this NAS come with free 2 surveillance camera license?

        • I'm not sure, I think it only comes with 1. Same goes with every Synology NAS running DSM 5 at least.

    • Thanks for that, I need to find a deal on the DS215J with Woollies delivery

Is that their good 2 bay model?

      • Yes, you can get this for around $50 more.

        • If I could impose.

What are the advantages of the new one? Any new capabilities?

          Thanks

        • @SamR:

Faster processor, more RAM, enough said.

All these deals including ebay voucher should say excludes WA and SA.
Every time I see them I get my hopes high for a fraction of a second before getting disappointed.

    • I feel for you bud

Well there is a good Samaritan offering his time to help people like you =) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/205129#comment-2942361

    • man i thought it was WA and SA only been wondering why i cant click and collect from Woolworth:P.
shakes fist @ ebay even setup cash rewards account.

  • Good find. This one is on the list for DSM 6.0 beta so should be getting firmware updates for a while. Only issues with this one are similar specs to my DS212j: single core processor and only 256mb memory, so read/write speeds are a bit slow but plenty adequate for low use.

How does it compare to something like this Netgear?
      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Netgear-2-Bay-NAS-Hot-Plug-ReadyN…

      • +1

The Synology UI is far ahead in term of ease of use. On specs alone the Netgear has more grunt (faster CPU, twice the memory, USB3.0) so probably better performance. If you're new to NAS setups I would still recommend a Synology or QNAP unit as you'll get more out of it.

  • any deals on DS415+?

  • +1

    Synology make awesome NAS's!
User interface so much better than Netgear and Thecus.

  • +1

Can this download torrents, and can it run behind a VPN?

    • +1

      yes and yes !

Honestly can't see how this is a "Sure fire Bargain".

The NAS from Megabuy is $179.89
    http://www.megabuy.com.au/synology-diskstation-ds214se-stand…

If you really want the extra Sandisk SD Card Mwave has those for $8.99
    http://www.mwave.com.au/product/sandisk-16gb-ultra-microsdhc…

    Total so far $188.88

Add shipping for the NAS $16.95 that makes it $205.83 delivered to your door, which is better than having to collect it from BigW.
The SD card can be collected from the warehouse (which is the equivalent of collecting from BigW).

How is this a sure fire bargain again? Maybe if it was $150 for both. That would be a bargain.

    • Did you miss the part about getting a $100 eBay voucher?

      • -3

The voucher does not make it a 'bargain'. It's not gving you $100 off the price of the NAS. A true bargain is when the retail price is significantly cheaper than anyone else.
BUT for the sake of comparing apple with apples, if we just look at Ebay sellers these guys are basically throwing in a free $8.99 SD card.

So good on them for providing additional value (albeit small) and for differentiating.

But a saving of $8.99 (that's only if you actually want to SD card) still doesn't equal a "Sure fire Bargain" to me.

        • "The voucher does not make it a 'bargain'. It's not gving you $100 off the price of the NAS"

Why is a voucher exempt this from being a bargain?

No one said it was $100 off the product itself, but it will cover the cost or a large portion of it for the purchase of a HDD to go with the NAS.

        • @Smigit:
Do you consider a saving of $8.99 a 'Sure Fire Bargain'?
My point was simply that I feel the OP is overselling the offer.

        • @stuckster: it sweetens the deal, but it's the $100 voucher that's surely the draw card here. I don't feel the $100 is irrelevant when determining if this is a deal. At $204 the price is very close to the minimum required to qualify for the $100 voucher which is a good thing in my books and I'm sure most people can find a use for the voucher.

Deal of the century? We'll probably not. For someone wanting a NAS it's a good option but.

        • +2

And tigharse gets 100+ votes for posting an SSD which is pretty much the same price everywhere but because of an eBay voucher, everyone thinks it's a bargain. Same applies here.

    • +3

I think you missed the point:

      $188.88 cheapest price - $204 ebay price = -$16 loss + $100 ebay voucher = $84 profit

    • How is collecting from a warehouse equivalent to collecting from a Big W outside of a very small population of buyers? Big W has stores all over the place and Woolworths more so. For a large number of people click and collect from Woolworths or Big W is also more convenient as they won't have anyone at home to sign for the delivery, meaning it goes back to a post office or depot and you have to go collect it anyway. If you work near one of the two retailers it'd allow you to pop out during lunch to grab the delivery.

Your option also misses out on the $100 voucher.

    • lol s*uck**er~

    • I am all for people posting eBay deals that will help others capitalise on getting the $50/$100 vouchers.

    • +2

I'm getting sd215j for $245.00 then will use $100 to buy a $255 drive. My new NAS set Will end up costing $400. :D

      Other places will be $500+

Sounds like a bargain to me.

"Time to put your SSDs to this bad boy"

Synology says the DS214se to average over 58 MB/s write and 102 MB/s read in RAID 1.

It would be stupid to put SSDs into this NAS.

    • +3

yes but SSDs are like eneloops, I have a drawer overflowing with them ;)

There's no option for pickup, only postage. How do you get the $100 voucher?

  • Bargain, bought 1 for my office!

  • Still expensive…but thanks

  • Anyone willing to send to SA for me?

  • Any feedback on using Plex with this NAS?

  • showing me $500 price

    • same

    • must be holding stock or sold out

    • Wow they've jacked it up to $500 now. I used to have some respect for Wireless1, but this is really off-putting. Unless one of their store reps can drop in to explain why?

Tempted to neg the deal - is this a valid reason to do so?

  • They increased the price to 500 !!!.. really ??????????

  • Hello, say if I buy this drive, can it be used to store my files where only I can use it? Other people who have access should not be able to see my stuff… Is that possible?

    • yes

    • Hmm - seems everyone is milking this deal for all it's worth :-/ This was listed at $203 when I posted the link - it's now selling at $239!

  • usb2 :(

I have the DS215J and it's my first time using a NAS, it's been super easy and the software is great. Managed to download apps to my android phone and access files as well as set up torrents. It has one WD Red 4TB in there and it's been a dream backing up all my media. Remember it needs gigabit connection for fast transfer speeds. My wifi was about a tenth of the speed of my LAN.

Cant speak for this model but I'm happy with the brand

  • Is there any synology 4bay on the list? where i can search the whole list?

    • This is what i'm after as well — a 4 bay nas.

Good price for a 2 bay nas though.

  • +1

    The DS215J
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Synology-DS215J-DiskStation-2-Bay…
is a good option if you are looking for something similar. It is slightly superior and is $245 (via eBay), versus Wireless 1's new price of $500 for the DS214SE.
