  • 4% is for the full amount, it should be $478

that's assuming they pay out, which seems to be selective.

      • Exactly, very selective!

  • Even better

  • -1

which is better Rx100 or A6000?

    • two different cameras one is P&S and the other one is ILC.

      • which is P&S and which is ILC?

        • +25

@insular No offence but you're not yet ready.

        • Rx100 is the point and shoot.

        • +5

          @Dealayed: it was a joke i'm a professional photographer.

you should see my portfolio of women undressing at the beach.

          @insular:

          Link lol …. :P

        • @insular: Shoe Cam Shots?

    • I have the RX100 II and 2 SLR cameras, and I consider myself a fairly handy photographer, not professional, but an enthusiast. For serious stuff like weddings etc, I will go to the effort of lugging around the SLR with lenses, external flash etc. But for 95% of the time, I use the RX100 as it gives results that are 90% as good as any SLR, and it fits in my pocket.
RX100 is the better choice for most people unless you are really serious about photography. BTW, RX100 and Canon G7x will blow away any phone camera, even the latest form Samsung, Apple and LG (G4).

      • @Billy_bob does it handle low light well and how high can you push the iso to notice grain? I use the a6000+18-105g most times but even that combo feels a bit big to carry everywhere.. So looking for something pocketable.
Edit - just noticed that the sony has a f1.8-4.9 compared to f1.8-2.8 for the g7x.. Leaning towards the g7x now..

        • +1

I think it is pretty good in low light up to iso 800 and sometimes 1600, especially if you use manual settings. The RX100 III also has F1.8-2.8 like the g7x, which is much more useful for low light situations where you need a bit of zoom. I try to keep my Mk2 near f1.8 in low light (avoid zoom, crop later instead). But the Mk3 has a bit less zoom reach than the Mk2, and also does not have the ability to take photos while recording video, which I find really useful. Overall, the Mk3 is probably a bit better, but it costs more. The g7x is also a good choice, you can't go wrong with any of these. They are the best point and shoot cameras right now (with good manual settings for the enthusiasts).

        • @billy_bob: Thanks mate

    • I got the RX100m2 because it is more than just a P&S. It has aperture/shutter priority settings and manual mode (not that I have a need for manual). Autofocus is fast. The optical zoom is alright, but in anything but daylight you will end up with low light and unwanted blur. Sensor size is only 1" so you need to get up close to things. Fits in the pocket so I carry it around more often.

I also have a A6000 and it is great. Forget DSLR, mirrorless is the new black. APS-C sensor means you don't have to get as close. Where it really excels is speed. I can burst over 20+ photos at max res before it starts buffering, all the time autofocusing. Only issue is the weight and size so I have to carry it around in a bag. So it's a little more planned and a little less casual.

  • i got got the a6000 body with cashback for $470 (incl. cashback/cashrewards) then got a 2nd hand 50mm 1.8 Sony lens.
takes beautiful shots, but am considering the Rx100 as will probably be more applicable to my needs.
it seems lots of people use the Rx100 when they dont wanna pull out the APS-C/full frame camera, not sure if my budget allows for both at this stage.

    • link please

      • got at last 15% off ebay sale from a Sony retailer VideoPro, just in time for the cashback offer ended.
can get them 2nd hand for around $650- with kit lens

        • No worries, Thanks

    • if you need one in your pocket, rx100 or g7x are only choices, if you need light, gm1/lx100 might be better.

      • thanks, will have a read on em

      • can go one of the Olympus or Panasonic MILCs with the 14-42 power zoom (it shrinks smaller than the non power)

bigger, but can still be shoved in some pockets.

    • Check out the Panasonic GM1. Same body size (depending on how stupidly large a lens you want to whack on) as the rx100 (I have both) but takes much better photos
The main difference between the two is less physical buttons on the panny which makes you more reliant on the touch screen. But touch to focus gives perfect shots every time

  • +2

hearing about heaps of negative comment on Whirpool, about grey import and fake part inside the camera. Very hard to get warranty when the camera is broken

  • Not sure if the picture matches the product. The RX100ii has a hotshoe right?

    • The picture is of an RX100 III, as you can see the EVF and popup flash outlines on the top of the camera.

The RX100 II has a hot-shoe, but no built in EVF.

  • Alternatively I got the RX100 (not ii) from ShoppingSquare for $389.95 + $38.95 postage (total $428.9):

    http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_413065_Sony_Cybershot_RX1…

There isn't a huge difference between the original and the ii except the addition of a hot shoe which is not really something you want on a portable camera anyway.

    • +1

When? Currently it's $355 before cash rewards .

      • $355 where? I got my RX100 last month (Sep 22) as per the link I gave which is still the current pricing on ShoppingSquare, cheapest I could find it.

        • +2

From the same seller as above. $430 wasn't bad back then but you got unlucky with this sale: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/215435

        • @watwatwat: Yup, those eBay deals are random and can be awesome :( Would definitely recommend it for $355 ($340.8 after cashrewards)

    • +3

But there is a big difference between I & III ….. so either buy the cheap I or go for III

    • The only reason I considered the ii was bcos it has the flip screen. Gr8 for taking selfies. Can't afford the iii.

      • +4

be careful, from memory the ii does not flip all the way up.
I think the iii does though.

        • +2

Thanks for the info mate. Just checked the you tube videos and nope ii doesn't flip all the way out. What a shame. Well better look at getting i than or see if i can save up for iii.

        • Correct. ii can't be used as a selfie screen.

        • +1

@rack: I've owned the RX100 ii and when that got damaged, I got the RX100 iii. I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on picture quality but the EVF and 180 degree flip screen are a couple of awesome additional features.

        • @spiff:

the iii has less zoom than the ii. :(

I have the original Mk1 and still very happy with it (bought when it first came out in late 2012)

        • @rack:

yeah, but the iii has less zoom :(
If I was to upgrade those two features would be tough to pick between.

more zoom (on the ii) or full 180 deg tilt LCD (on the iii).

        • +1

          @daft009:

The two biggest advantages of the mk iii are:
          - the f/1.8-2.8 lens, which is considerably faster and less variable than f/1.8-4.9.
          - the 24mm range on mk iii, compared with 28mm for mk ii. This is notable for landscape photos.

          http://canonlensblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/24mm-vs-…

On the telephoto end, 70mm vs 100mm seems like a big difference, but it's not. In most situations you can walk a few steps forward to make up for the difference. If that is not possible, you can crop the picture slightly.

        • @aggregate:

          thanks for the info mate.
then the Mk III it is if/when I upgrade :D

  • I ordered the mark 3 for 680~ from T-dimension. Not sure of they still have stock.

    • -1

They are from Hong Kong I don't think they will out of stock.

      • Pointless comment? They are out of stock at tdimension.

        • lol … I just thought there are so many stock everywhere from Hong Kong how can they out of stock … may be check back soon.

Be aware of the revised term and condition by e-Bay on this code ending tonight instead of 20 October.
    http://pages2.ebay.com.au/Buyer_coupons/wedding20

This offer commences at 14.00 (AEDT) on 15 October 2015 and ends at 23.59 (AEDT) on 16 October 2015 (“Offer Period”).

    • lol. evil trickery.

    • What the? Ends early?

      • Yup, better put in your order before 11.59pm tonight (AEDT)

  • Mark 3 is easily worth the difference in price (at retail). IMHO. But this is an AMAZING series of camera. You won't regret it (I owned the Mk1 and Mk3 now)

  • is this good for a noob as a P&S just using auto mode? indoor and outdoor shooting.

    • Yes, it's aimed at noobs but also noobs who may want to step up.

      • -2

In no way is the RX series of cameras aimed at noobs.

        • -1

And why aren't noobs part of the target audience?

        • @plmko:

Because the RX series are enthusiast level cameras with high quality sensors, glass, and full manual controls with an extensive feature set + menu options.

A 5D has an auto mode also, so I guess you consider that a camera for 'noobs' also.

        • @c0balt:

Explain why RX100 mk2 has superior auto mode on top of auto?

Pretty sure I know where the RX line sits, been using the RX1 for 3 years. Also Canon 5D is a pro level camera over 10 times the price of this camera, not sure what you're trying to say.

  • I know this is great P&S. I'm tight on budget can only buy one camera, so I'm going Waterproof. G4 is good enough for now for P&S, then I got a Medium DSLR Canon 550D for casual photography. But both are not waterproof….so I think I will go for Panasonic DSC-FT6

    • Great idea.

I had the same inclination, when my Canon IXUS broke down due to dust getting into and jamming the lens.

After lots of research I settled on the Olympus TG-3 (now upgraded to TG-4). My Canon EOS 600D now pretty much sits around in the cupboard to be used indoors and when flash photography is required, or if our family is going on day trips nearby.

Its great to carry the TG-3 everywhere. On holidays when you going to the beach and the pool, underwater shots and videos are great fun (I left the SLR at home last Christmas when we flew up to Hamilton Island for our 2 weeks holiday). My wife now pretty much has it in her handbag and due to the ruggedness of it, I don't ever worry about it breaking.

      Cheers.

  • Purchased this yesterday for $669 with code and cashback from this seller. Item hasn't been shipped at this stage but has been paid. Does anyone know my options? Too bad so sad? Fairly annoyed.

    • +1

Unless the seller can cancel it and refund you not much you can do

If DWI is nice they should do it for you for goodwill

      • Thanks for the reply. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. Just sent them an email. See how it goes.

        • +1

For anyone interested got a reply and they have refunded back the price difference of $40.

        • @ezz88: DWI refunded you the $40? So I guess whenever eBay does these promotional deals with selected stores, the stores are the ones out of pocket and not eBay.

        • @ezz88:

That's really good news. Glad you asked. You never know if you don't
